my son is in primary 2 ... aged 6 (just turned) ... and is on a behaviour chart, due to some extreme behaviour.(adhd)

now when he gets all six stars for the day we make a big fuss of him...

6 periods of time, if all rules kept he gets a star for that period of time... rules are 1. no agressive behaviour in the class or playground...2. listen to my teacher and do what is asked...3.put my hand up and wait to talk to my teacher...

so today he comes home with 5 stars and a number 1 Hmm it states, sent to depute for using bad language....

imo bloody isnt bad language, now the school have said he said bloody, just randomly, nothing else with it, so not like he said bloody hell etc (catholic school, so could understand them being annoyed about that) but i dont get why the school has reacted over this Hmm

AIBU?

i have scored the one out on his chart and put a star, i refuse to punish him for that, and noted on the chart, "sorry but i dont think the word used is a "swear" word etc and i think its very unfair that he has had a number 1 for this rather than just speaking with us about it"

as 5 stars are 5 stars he gets the pocket money earned but 6 stars is a big differnce cause he haas gotten them all, now i am by no means soft on my son, i will be the first to punish him if he is wrong, but i dont think he is Confused

WWUD?

thanks :)

Bloody is swearing. Even if you don't think it is.

If your child's teacher used it to him, you probably wouldn't be happy, so why should she accept it from your child?

You should back up the school where possible - your child is on a behaviour plan and it is really important he sees you backing the school in behaviour matters (and vice versa). Unless you want your relationship with the school to deteriorate further.Hmm

If one of the other children goes home and uses the word bloody to his parents, and the parents complain to the school (which they may well do) that their child learned this word at school, do you think the school would say, 'Oh, it's not swearing, Mummyo3 says so...' Don't think that's going to happen!

MrsColumbo · 12/01/2011 22:20

Bloody is swearing. But it's a class B swear word, according to EU regulations, along with bugger and bollocks. It's not as mild as class C, like sod, but not as bad as Twatty Mc Cunt Chops. It's all there in the directive. Just ask Belgium if you don't believe me.

AgentZigzag · 12/01/2011 22:24

Does Belgium have an email add MrsC?

Cos I'd like to ask them about where twat and wanker fit in.

jugglingjo · 12/01/2011 22:25

That reminds me of a Father Ted sketch with Mrs Doyle we have on a tape ( yes, we're a bit old-fashioned, and have tape player in car )

Anyone else come across it ?

It's hilarious, if a bit rude ( basically a catalogue of swear words which Mrs Doyle complains to Father Ted that she heard in some TV programme or whatever )

Oblomov · 12/01/2011 22:25

Madam, true. But it would be fun, wouldn't it ?

Oblomov · 12/01/2011 22:28

1.fck
2.shit
3.bitch
4.whore
5.b
stard
6.as
7.d
mn
8.h*ll

Just what I copied and pasted. assuming its ass, damn and hell ?

seems a bit tame. surely there are worse than this ?

Oblomov · 12/01/2011 22:29

Is crap a swear word then ?
oh dear. I use that all the time.

MrsColumbo · 12/01/2011 22:32

Yes, Agent ZigZag - the email address is Belgium@ Belgium.bumbuggershitwanktwatbollocks/armpit

Or you could just write to them. All of them. I hear their postal system is very efficient these days. Fucking Bruges.

jugglingjo · 12/01/2011 22:34

One of the category C's is heavily frowned on I gather !

It's all very silly really, just bits of our bodies (IMHO)

Of course anything said aggressively can be offensive.

And swear words directed at you can certainly add to the sense of offense and hurt ( I'm sure most people know this already from experience )

sunnydelight · 12/01/2011 22:39

Just tell the teacher you have Australian roots. It would be unusual to watch an interview with an Aussie politician where they didn't use the word bloody at least once.

AgentZigzag · 12/01/2011 22:42

Nice one MrsC, ta.

I might try the email, although that address looks suspiciously like one that was asking if I wanted to buy viagra...

I like the word muppet, acceptably disrespectful, but fluffy at the same time.

MrsColumbo · 12/01/2011 22:43

JugglingJo, are you suggesting that sod be upgraded to class B? Because the implications that would have for the admin department are significant and costly. It'd be a beaureaucratic nightmare that the EU is simply not equipped to deal with right now.

AgentZigzag · 12/01/2011 22:44

I was thinking about the shit the Australian tourist board had the other day sunny, it all kicked off big time just because their advert to invite us all over there said 'where the bloody hell are you?' Grin

Oh, I was sooo offended.

MrsColumbo · 12/01/2011 22:47

Good point, Agent zig Zag - although apparently the original ad said 'So where the bloody hell are you, you Pommie bastards?', because Pommie is an extremely offensive word.

jugglingjo · 12/01/2011 22:48

Hi MrsC, Actually I was thinking that c*@% had been rather left out of the tabulation, and needs categorising

  • probably in Category A from all the petitions I've received from Mrs Outraged and friends.
MrsColumbo · 12/01/2011 22:49

Yes, Jo - some people don't like being called a chav.

charliesmommy · 12/01/2011 22:50

It is an adult saying "bloody" though, not a 6 year old!

charliesmommy · 12/01/2011 22:51

in the ad I mean...

MrsColumbo · 12/01/2011 22:51

But now I'm picturing a child saying it...

nurseblade · 12/01/2011 22:52

I would have said 'bloody' was blaspheming rather than swearing, just like exclaiming 'god' or 'christ'. I suppose at Catholic school they would be considered equally as bad.

mumeeee · 12/01/2011 23:28

YABU.It is a swear word and your DS shouldn't have said it. Also YABU to alter the chart as you are underminig what the Teacher has done and that won't help with his behaviour.

thumbwitch · 13/01/2011 00:08

heh - cultural differences - bloody and bugger are hardly swear words at all in Australia. I was quite shocked when the famel vet on Bondi Vet called one of the dogs a "bugger" but was assured that it was quite normal in this country!

charliesmommy · 13/01/2011 00:16

they arent really swear words that are considered too serious in this country either Thumbwitch... but certainly not suitable for a 6yr old to be saying.

its not something that you most people would consider minding their language about in front of a child (obviously in school, or working with young children would be an exception), but you wouldnt expect a child to use it..

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 13/01/2011 00:27

What swear words ARE children allowed to use to express frustration? We're not Americans we don't say gosh darn, we say god damn it, shit and bloody hell.
