They are not being used as pawns- this show gives them a chance they may not otherwise have. Plus they have to opt in to it, not opt out fgs!

scaredoflove · 11/01/2011 18:23

Jodie Prenger was on a previous British Biggest Loser, she has kept most of the weight off in about 3 years and completely changed her life

before and after

Mumcentreplus · 11/01/2011 18:28

what do people not understand about the fact that people can be treated with respect, motivated, given dietary help and exercise... without the spectacle??...but then that wouldn't make good t.v would?..ha!

Thingumy · 11/01/2011 18:28

Of course subway is a fast food chain,I don't see how it can be classed as anything else.

DilysPrice · 11/01/2011 18:36

Can someone please answer the key question - how does the British trainer compare to Jillian?!
< Jillian, I faithfully promise that I'll be back as soon as I've stopped coughing up green phlegm, I haven't forgotten you>

Mumcentreplus · 11/01/2011 18:40

Jillian the fainting weakling? Grin

Niceguy2 · 11/01/2011 19:13

Mumcentre.

Yes they could be. But they CHOSE to do this.

If they want to, fair play to them.

mykiddies · 11/01/2011 19:16

I suppose Thingumy it is a fast food chain but it does offer healthy food! and you could still lose weight. It's not junk food is what I meant

Cain · 11/01/2011 19:21

I think you will find that the programme will have tested these people for medical conditions that mean they should be exempt from moving their arses with any kind of urgency.

Its a pantomime just like that one that Richard Hammond presents where they have to do an assault course and various challenges.

Hole in the Wall?

And what was that programme Keith Chegwin presented where teams had to compete in daft games?

All the same genre but getting more and more bizarre as time goes by.

Mumcentreplus · 11/01/2011 19:40

I didn't say it was against their will Niceguy ... just crass and obviously not just or at times it seems remotely about helping people lose weight ...but with a healthy dose of humiliation thrown into the mix...sorry if I sound a tad cynical ..

DilysPrice · 11/01/2011 20:07

The compensation culture is our friend here - I suspect that the terror of being sued means that the physical risks are managed to be much less than they appear on the edit. (the disclaimers signed will be extensive, but would count for very little if someone did actually suffer a heart attack).

GabbyLoggon · 12/01/2011 14:47

Everyone realises Davinas prog is for entertainment. Not long term slimming.
ITV are taking risks to pull in the publicity to up the rating.

I dont find Hole in The Wall as in your face as this. And all the contestants are fit
and can defend their corner.

These slimmers are barely allowed to say anything. The bullying is designed to attract
publicity....My wife, a nurse, was horrified.

If you have no moral standards in TV you end up justifying snuff movies. I understand ITV have money problems

They were once famously said to have a "License to print money."

I expect the participants knew what they were signing up for.

They could always leave if they wanted to.

GabbyLoggon · 12/01/2011 15:09

Trill: Good speilers can talk anyone into anything. Thats there job. I have spoken with many of these people years ago.

Perhaps the programme is a bit of a fix and
partly scripted.

Even some good tv programmes are.

A p[rogramme on badger-baiting would attract a sort of audience. Its all about where the law and the TV companies draw the line.

Total freedon is a dangerous myth.
