To not understand the point of 'Mild Cheddar'

Or medium for that matter.

What is it for? Why would you buy it? It tastes of rubber. Even DCs 5 and 3 who are definitely not food snobs, far prefer Extra Mature crumbly cheddar.

And don't say for cooking because then the recipe tast bland. So what is the point?

i loved it as a child, hated strong tastes, like mature(ish) cheese now

it's just people's tastes innit Grin

gordyslovesheep · 06/01/2011 21:21

I like it :)

I like all sorts of cheese but I do not like mature cheddar due to the horrid gritty bits - mild cheddar has none of that nonsense

MrsRhettButler · 06/01/2011 21:21

yep, its rubber yanbu

i like cheese singles and i like babybel (but only with prawn cocktail flavour crisps) Blush

GMajor7 · 06/01/2011 21:21

Blush mild cheese lover here.

I detest strong smells and flavours and tend to leave the room if a cheese board comes out! Medium/mild Cheddar/Double Gloucester all the way for me!

YANBU
I don't understand it either. It tastes of nothing, and is like eating creamy rubber

gordyslovesheep · 06/01/2011 21:23

oh yes low fat none melty cheese is just wrong on every level

CamelToeAndWine · 06/01/2011 21:23

YANBU.

Cheese should be strong enough to briefly make your tastebuds cramp and I love the salty little gritty bits!

GMajor7 · 06/01/2011 21:23

Thing is, medium cheddar still tastes very cheesey to me. Mature cheddar would tang my face off!

southeastastra · 06/01/2011 21:24

it tastes like cheese to some of us Grin

Meglet · 06/01/2011 21:29

yanbu.

I bought the DC's one of the packs of sticks of kids cheddar as a snack when we were in town. They both went 'yuck'. If I had given them proper mature cheese they would have scoffed it in seconds.

WimpleOfTheBallet · 06/01/2011 21:29

My DDS like mild cheddar! Not all DC are hardened foodies yer know! Mine even go "YUK" at olives.

[shameless]

FANTASTIC THREAD!!

charliesmommy · 06/01/2011 21:32

lol... I think it is bland and pointless.. but husband hates strong cheeses, smelly cheeses, runny cheeses.. in fact anything apart from mild cheddar, edam, and babybel.. ))wimp((

SoMuchToBits · 06/01/2011 21:33

YANBU - it's pointless. Actually I think it's cheese for people who don't like cheese!

southeastastra · 06/01/2011 21:34

ew runny cheese

SoMuchToBits · 06/01/2011 21:34

thenightsky that link has made me want to get out the cheese and nibble! Blush

gordyslovesheep · 06/01/2011 21:34

I can hadle stilton the like - strong but no gritty

Grit has no place in cheese imho - along with FRUIT - what is with the whole cheese with added cherries and marmalade crap - fruit next to cheese - fine - in it - no no no

pointythings · 06/01/2011 21:35

YANBU - strong cheese rules. My DCs have voted with their taste buds since babyhood and will now not eat anything rated less than a strength 5. DD1 even likes blue cheese and some seriously stinky French ones...

I also hate fruit in cheese. A bit of herbage - fine! But no fruit please!
