I think it may possibly be my favourite Christmas present of all time.

YANBU but I'm sure your neighbours will be on here soon enough:
AIBU to think that is you share a wall you should not be playing a ukulele AT ALL EVER?

asmallbunchofflowers · 05/01/2011 20:34

Ha! But I would remind you that the ukulele is an acoustic instrument.

be warned, this may only be the start...
we got DD her second ukelele this year! Tis a tenor, and sounds so much nicer!

Himalaya · 05/01/2011 20:39

Fab. I got a Ukelele last year. It's not hard to start getting some notes and tunes out of it.

Scout19075 · 05/01/2011 21:03

Tis a fab present!

asmallbunchofflowers · 05/01/2011 21:03

Tell me more, Himalaya. Did you teach yourself or join a class?

Have you looked at the ukeschool website - quite good little lessons and help with tuning.

I also had a book.

I haven't played it for a while, and didn't get beyond the basic beginner stuff though.

My DS started guitar at the same time and he is really good already, it is a bit depressing...but then he has the teenager's ability to sit in his room strumming away for hours.

You've inspired me to get started again!

melezka · 05/01/2011 22:42

ukelele is certainly the instrument du jour.

You are way cool.

nobiggy · 05/01/2011 22:44

I have a black Les Paul one. Bloody lovely. It just seems that the notes are right where they ought to be.

donnie · 05/01/2011 22:44

you must learn to play anarchy in the ukelele!

TheLogLady · 05/01/2011 22:47

i got DD one for chistmas. only because i want to learn and can strum while she's at school Grin

KurriKurri · 05/01/2011 22:51

I got my DD one for her 21st last week - she loves it too. Smile

LittlePushka · 05/01/2011 22:55

Is it easier to learn than guitar?

KurriKurri · 05/01/2011 22:58

I'd say so LittlePushka.

donkeyderby · 05/01/2011 23:00

I love my uke too! They are such fun.

The songwriter Loudon Wainwright said that 'if every child was bought a ukelele at birth, there would be world peace but a lot of lousy music'.

donkeyderby · 05/01/2011 23:01

ukulele I mean

KurriKurri · 05/01/2011 23:16

How about

missismonky · 05/01/2011 23:23

My DH is a uke god. A couple of his colleagues have them too. They have uke days at work and have a jam in the office. Smile.

LittlePushka · 05/01/2011 23:25

Kurrikurri - was that after one lesson??!! Has a uke only four strings?

autodidact · 05/01/2011 23:26

yanbu. ukes rock.:)

asmallbunchofflowers · 06/01/2011 18:59

Oooh. Lots more people to share the ukulele joy. I love the idea of a ukulele jam at work but somehow doubt it will happen for me.

. Yeah baby!

I cheat with a Baritone Uke (same as top four stings of a standard guitar Blush)

asmallbunchofflowers · 06/01/2011 19:20

Banjos? banjos?
