on mn?

All these threads about spelling and grammar have made me compare the spelling and grammar of mn to other parenting forums.

There is one in particular that I'm not sure if I'm allowed to mention but I'm a member because some friends are and it drives me insane.

I'm very polite though and don't say anything because it would be wrong. Also apparently on this site you aren't allowed to disagree with anyone else or the thread gets locked.

You also aren't allowed to post about anything that could even vaguely start a debate.

And no one can spell.

Or apparently knows one end of a baby from another.

I love mn.

OP posts:

right, what have i missed?? BOF keeps going on about tights. should i be wearing tights? is this a new MN rule?

ChaosTrulyReigns · 03/01/2011 02:39

I think (hearsay) there was a pulled thread recently where the OP wanted everyone to describe what tights, dernier and colour they were wearing.

I'm guessing it's some oblique reference to that.

Wink

thanks chaos

Babyandbump! Nooooo! [Grabs onto OP and screams hysterically]
I started my parenting forum experience there. I finished up asking for my account to be deleted and running for the hills - if I had hung around any longer I was going to explode and start screaming "No! It's not 'each to their own, hun'. Some things are just wrong!"

I did try very hard to get banned after a mass banning of the cloth napping/sling-using members for, as far as I can tell, just doing things a bit differently and having the nerve to mention it. I was actually quite offended that I didn't manage it. I must be boringly non-offensive.

PickleSarnie · 03/01/2011 11:01

I did the same on babyandbump kungfupanda, someone had asked if "you would be upset if your friends went on holiday whilst you were pregnant and couldn't go with them" or something like that.

I dared to suggest that no, I wouldn't be upset because I'd realise the world didnt stop/revolve around me just because I was up-duffed. Apparently that was the wrong answer. The right one would have been "Oh hun, off course you're right to be upset, it's your special 9 months and your friends are all big old meanies hun x x x"

Because I got the answer wrong, I ended up getting (badly spelt) threatening private messages from the OP and some public ones from her threatening to "knock me out". Instead of being shocked that the OP ( a future mother) decided that violence was the answer to someone daring to disagree with you, everyone else on the forum started agreeing with her and that yes, I should be "knocked out".

Lovely.

TandB · 03/01/2011 11:15

PickleSarnie - I would like to say I am shocked but it wouldn't be true! I saw various comments that suggested that there were things going on behind the scenes of that nature.

TandB · 03/01/2011 11:16

We probably need a support group for those who have escaped pink fluffy forums with a dark underside....

RustyBear · 03/01/2011 11:17

Just been reading their t&c - apparently if you have a duplicate account you get fined £5000!

They also appear to be more scared of SWMNBN than MN are - all mention of her is completely banned...

TandB · 03/01/2011 13:19

Fined by who?!

Gemsy83 · 03/01/2011 13:23

Either Bounty, Netmums or Mumszone. The latter had a 'debates' section and someone asked about finding out the sex of babies when pregnant. I gave my view 'dont see the point its going to be one or the other blah blah' to be told by the OP 'what does it matter if people do or dont- its not really open for debate' durr so posting it in the section called 'debates' you expected what exactly?

RustyBear · 03/01/2011 13:28

Well, that's what I wondered kungfu, how on earth would they enforce it? Or do they take your credit card details when you register? There's also a fine (£25 iirc) for each trolling/flaming/libellous/advertising/soliciting post.....

TandB · 03/01/2011 13:29

Um, I think a couple of someones have got a bit carried away with their own importance and assigned themselves powers usually restricted to the police!

TheMonster · 03/01/2011 13:32

Oh maybe MN should fine trolls then it would pay for the Xmas meet up each year.
Grin

TrillianAstra · 03/01/2011 13:37

Well how do you think MN got to be this way?

It's because we encourage everyone to write in a way that is easy to read.

TrillianAstra · 03/01/2011 13:41

No idea how MN got to be "the place where you are allowed to disagree" though.

Apart from because it is insane to have a forum where people can't disgree. It would just be so boring. What would anyone ever talk about?

TandB · 03/01/2011 13:42

trillion - you are meant to talk about how everyone is different and isn't that nice. As far as I can tell. And hug a lot.

TrillianAstra · 03/01/2011 13:43

Booooooooooring.

TrillianAstra · 03/01/2011 13:44

I much prefer "everyone is different and some of you are wrong"

TheMonster · 03/01/2011 14:59

Everyone is right, but some people are more right than others. Except in AIBU, where everyone except me is wrong.

Hullygully · 03/01/2011 15:04

It has been clearly stated and agreed to by every single person that has ever even remotely hovered about near MN, that all opinions except mine are simply wrong, even if similar.

Georgimama · 03/01/2011 15:04

Lolz huns, some forums are just full of biatches - group hugs xxxxxx

Georgimama · 03/01/2011 15:05

God I just tried that as an experiment, I profoundly and profusely apologise. If that had appeared with a pink ticker I may actually have been sick.

YunoYurbubson · 03/01/2011 15:15

I am a a member of a local forum with a baby section. I can't read more than two threads in a row there without getting a nosebleed from all the suppressed rage.

Sometimes I spend half an hour there and then come back here and unleash the fury on the first person I see on here who deserves it Blush.

Even worse are the threads about maids. In this country is is common to have maids and the views people spout about these women. Vein. Throbbing. Bile. Rising.

It's a small community so I have a strict rule never to post on the site, just use the search function to find out practical things and then RUN HOME TO MUMSNET.

LotteryWinnersOnAcid · 03/01/2011 15:26

I was on that one, the big purple mess one. It makes me feel as though I am reading a very long text message from someone illiterate. And a bit sick. The last time I visited I saw a photo of a 3D scan that had been "glitterised" in someone's signature - you know, when those animated sparkles go all over a picture? It scared me and I had to click over to lovely clinical "dental surgery" MN immediately.
