SarahStrattonsBaubles · 30/12/2010 12:13

Sky news has just announced that the man arrested for Joanna Yeates' murder is her Landlord.

I can't think what to say, everything I think of seems trite :(

Intresetingly good looking defendants get harsher sentences, research has shown

I'm sure others would have found out without a MN thread.

"The second I saw him on the news last night, I said to DH, I bet he's involved, there was something about the look on his face.
Very creepy indeed."

Good enough for me.
But then again I regularly convict people based on their race.

Okcomputer, I would ask for your comments re your dh on two threads to be pulled. You have made him instantly identifiable by posting his idle gossip on a public forum.

Oh, thanks Feenie. I didn't think of that. Durr. Thanks.

Very funny, Mayor, tongue in cheek I presume.

moving away from the current case.

I was on a jury twice..any of you done jury service?

It was not very interesting but the judge did crack one good joke....

I think in a case like this any man who has been in contact with the victim will come under suspicion, particularly anyone who has access to her home.

I was thinking about this when reading the news coverage of the case, about how awful it must be for partners, who must know they are suspected. (quite right that they should be investigated of course as sadly it often is the partner/ex who's involved). Sad

I can't stop thinking about her family. Her parents must be devastated. Sad

Yes Cleo, the parents in such cases are totally devastated....I was in court once when the man convicted of murder was the son of a serving police officer. I can still picture the look of total misery on the fathers face.

Nope.
knife crime = the black kid in the hoody
Sexual based crime = the white guy I think looks a bit creepy

( Grin and yes very tongue in cheek to try and highlight how ludicrous some people are when it comes to these incidents.)

Called up once but didn't go. Can't be called up again afaik due to training to be a barrister.

Tell you a funny true story

An american Tourist went to a Midlands
Crown Court. Saw the judges red robes, whipped out her camera took a photo,
The judge sent her to the cells brought her back and fined her £400

A bit unfair, because in America they can take photos in courts.

When did I mention his race? Confused

I can read peoples faces/expressions quite well and I can honestly say I've never been wrong with something like this, like I've never been wrong with what sex baby a woman is carrying.

I've obviously watched far too much Criminal minds / Lie to me / CSI. Smile
Or I'm actually a witch.

Report
Feenie · 30/12/2010 14:33

Oh give over, Malificence.

I am always wrong on babies, even my own. We were going to call ds Amy, and had no boys' names at all.

Report
Malificence · 30/12/2010 14:45

No I'm not wrong or deluded, I've correctly stated the sex of (not guessed) well over 100 babies, a bit much for mere coincidence.

I just know.

It didn't start till I had my DD, but I didn't get a feeling with the baby I miscarried, so it was obviously not meant to be.

Malificence · 30/12/2010 14:46

Oh and I told my SIL that she was having a boy, even thought she had been told she was having a girl - guess who was right?

Report
Feenie · 30/12/2010 14:48

I believe you over babies, but give up with the murderer intuition.

You didn't, my point was to illustrate that people who claim they think someone is guilty based on "the look of them" are as ignorantl and stupid as those who would believe someone is guilty of a crime based on their race.
And how do you know you've never been wrong in an instance like this? have you followed every case to their conclusion? Or more likely, as with all people who rely solely on their great "inuition" do you remember the times you are right and forget the times you were wrong or have no way of knowing if you were right.

i said to a pal of mine he looks shifty it was the eyes !!

Report
figcake · 30/12/2010 15:12

Regardless of whether he is found guilty, I think that it is a real shame how a culture which always celebrated (or at least tolerated) individuality like few others has now been reduced to judging someone upon the basis of their odd appearance - he is an English master at public school fgs who has always been passionate about the pre-Raphaelites - he is not going to be sporting a crew-cut and Converses, is he?

He's been reading books and stuff has he? The sun readers won't like that. definitely something fishy going on there.

Report
pooka · 30/12/2010 16:09

Pre-raphaelites sounds dodgy to me.

If it weren't so sad, all these lines about "shifty eyes" and being able to tell just from his face, would be risible.

For God's sake. Is sick and twisted to seem to enjoy the speculation about real life murder and tragedy.

Malificence, you should have contacted the authorities at once when you knew who the murderer was.

By withholding your knowledge until AFTER he has been arrested, there is a real danger that you could come across as talking out of your arse.
