Adrienne def

the other 2 are ok

Kate- too princessy

Gabby is a horrid nn

Katey1010 · 29/12/2010 04:12

I am a Kate (obviously) and have always liked it! If you choose a longer version (Catherine, Katherine, Katharine) she would have more options. She could then be a Katie, Kate, Kathy. Less comparison with Princess Kate.

BTW, I was one of 5 Catherines in my class at school and there was no new royalty then so it might be a smidge common!

diddl · 29/12/2010 07:58

Kate-boring

Adrienne-sounds like a boy

Gabrielle/a-pretty.

Parsgirl · 29/12/2010 08:59

I have a Katherine so am biased. Not keen on Adrienne but Gabrielle is okay.

ZZZenAgain · 29/12/2010 09:00

Catherine is a nice name, not really that keen on the other two, sorry

ISNT · 29/12/2010 09:07

goplayout has good alternatives - ariana and ariella are lovely. I know someone called ariella and it is a lovely name, unusual and really pretty-sounding and no obvious ways of mispronouncing it.

For me - Kate, fine, bit dull.
Adrienne - I really don't like it. I know one and asked her how to pronounce it and she said she didn't mind Confused but it reminds me of Adrian
Gabrielle/Gabriella - nice if a bit frilly, Gabrielle better.

kslatts · 29/12/2010 09:44

Kate - like
Adrienne - really like
Gabrielle (or Gabriella) - dislike

LynetteScavo · 29/12/2010 09:48

I like kate and Gabriella.

Kates are always nutters, though.

NotNowBernardImStuffingTheBird · 29/12/2010 09:54

I love all of them Smile

Nancy66 · 29/12/2010 10:17

Adrienne is too masculine sounding and the other two are ok but dull

purepurple · 29/12/2010 10:23

I work with an Adrienne and nobody can spell or pronounce her name.
Of the 3, I prefer Kate.

AllyH9 · 29/12/2010 10:44

Kate (or Kitty) is fine as long as it is a nickname, and you give her the correct name of Katherine or Katherine for best! People will always mispronounce or misspell Adrienne, and may even tease her by calling her Adrian. Gabrielle could lead to an unfortunate nickname (Gabby!) so is best avoided.

I think it's always best to stick with tried and trusted names rather than fashionable names. Remember that names like Mavis, Hilda and Gladys (not to mention Sharon, Tracy, Kylie, Krystle and Fallon) were once popular. My daughters are Emma and Sarah; dull, I know - but neither of them has ever wanted to change their name or been teased for it.

Gabity · 29/12/2010 10:53

I have a Gaby (Gabrielle) and we love it.

Why does everyone dislike Gaby so much?!

ZZZenAgain · 29/12/2010 11:10

aw sorry aboutr that. Some people will always dislike it, whatever name you choose. I dunno just the sound at the beginning I suppose the Gab

TiggyD · 29/12/2010 12:26

Gabrielle is the name for a precocious little drama queen.
Adrienne is basically the same but from a rough estate.
Kate bit of a tom boy. Why not go for Catherine so she can choose how to shorten it if she wants?

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/12/2010 12:58

as long as you shorten to gaby

Abcinthia · 29/12/2010 13:11

My name is Kate (well Katie) so I might be biased when I say I like it. Though be prepared if you are just going to name her Kate, because people will always ask if it is short for Catherine. I get it all the time and sometimes when I say my name is Katie and not Catherine, I get "Oh but are you sure?" Hmm

I like the other two as well.
