To think that the nice stuff NEVER goes in the sales?

Only the tacky crap that noone will buy full price. Correct me if I'm wrong. And tell me where the decent bargains are.

well had to go in today for opticians, and did end up in M and S. Weirdly, tried on loads of stuff, could totally see myself buying it, carried an armful to the till....and ended up just buying a lovely sparkly swirly cardigan for £12. Think I have recessionitis; new distaste for more than one purchase at a time!

BelligerentYhoULE · 30/12/2010 19:32

V disappointed with the M&S sale. Only saw one thing that I liked, a coat, but they only had ONE in the whole store and it was a size 18.

VW sale in Selfridges also disappointing - tried on three things 9all bargainous) but didn't love any of them, so resisted.

Bought the navy Janice dress in Phase Eight and some t-shirts in Dickens and Jones.

I was in zara I could swear they just put out the stuff that has not sold from bygone years because none of that stuff has been in the shops this season Hmm

grumpypants · 30/12/2010 19:50

Yeah, m and s sale today down to the dregs, but had just popped in, som thrilled to get my lovelt cardi! Didn't bother with Zara; the sales always seem to feature 'specials'

follyfoot · 30/12/2010 19:51

If anyone likes Boden, they have had a sudden influx of stock in the last day, plenty more sizes in many items.

NinkyNonker · 30/12/2010 19:57

I hate the sales. I ran through Next earlier to return something that their courier had neglected to collect three times Hmm and it was a hideous sea of chaos. I didn't stop to look at anything. I did then go into Gap which was calmer, and bought a few bits for baby DD in the next size up as their stuff washes really well. I then leapt into the car where DH and DD were waiting and legged it...that has been the extent of my sale shopping for the last few yrs!

BelligerentYhoULE · 30/12/2010 20:00

Zara is like a jumble sale at the best of times, let alone in the sales. I must admit, I don't like it - I object to having to buy a large, at size 10-12 - and I think the quality is pretty bad too.

Gap was very calm - but everything looked as if it needed ironing and lots of it looked covered in fluff.

NinkyNonker · 30/12/2010 20:00

Oh, and what is it with Next? Why is it so popular??

droves · 30/12/2010 20:13

Dont know why Next is popular.
Was good years ago , seems the clothes are a lot thinner material and poor choice in the sales.
Bit of a strange shop now.
It viers from frumpy to slutty and not much in between.
Kids stuff is ok , and the menswear is better made than womens.

lovelyopaque · 30/12/2010 20:18

I got three nice things this year. One was an item I wanted at full price and got at 50% off. Another was an impulse buy, but lovely and useful (30% off), and a useful denim skirt at 25% off. Very happy, but usually hate them!

DilysPrice · 30/12/2010 20:36

I did the outlet mall after Xmas and got loads of stuff, but that's not the same as high street sales.
Monsoon Children's sale is very good, I agree, because it brings the prices down from WTF to pretty reasonable; I get some nice things from there most years.
H&M kids sales used to be good and unbelievably cheap but seem appalling recently.

TheBolter · 30/12/2010 20:41

I agree, nothin online this year. I'm waiting for the Toast further markdowns and Archive sale.

Great Plains - which is usually amazing for bargains has loads of nice stuff but nothing in my size.

Oasis is usually my shop of choice but the sale is pants.

I did get loads of half price Sylvanian Family stuff from Debenhams online sale (thanks to a MNer in the promo section!) for dd1's birthday... so that's good.

But clothes? Meh. Usually I buy a whole wardrobe for the dds from the Mini Boden sale a Xmas but it was a struggle to get anything I liked in their sizes.

TheBolter · 30/12/2010 20:41

nothin g

upahill · 30/12/2010 20:49

I got a Diesel dresss fo £60 instead of £120 and a Pied a terre dress for £36 instead of £120. I also got a lovely soft grey top from French Connection for £20 reduced from £75.

In the last few days DH has bought

A fridge Frezer
settee
scales (Food)
a lap top for me
a DAB radio
A toaster
a micro wave combination oven

Thank God most of them were vastly reduced and I hope he is now over his spending spree!!

talkingnonsense · 31/12/2010 14:26

I got a lovely clarins set that was a good offer before Xmas, reduced yesterday. I often think nice bath stuff and stationery etc is the best deal in the sales!

fiveisanawfullybignumber · 31/12/2010 16:56

The only ones I bother with are Next, get there about 7.30am to miss the early birds but before regular shoppers. Then out in time for a quick breakfast and off to Monsoon as the doors open.
Kitted out my 2 youngest DD's entirely for spring.Grin
