to send Asda a rocket for delivering extremely short dated Christmas groceries?

Some of the fresh food won't even last til Christmas Eve, yet it was only delivered this lunchtime!

The order was clearly a Christmas dinner - I'd arranged for Asda to deliver it to two friends who run a dog rescue, work a minimum 18 hour day and normally just don't do Christmas. I'd ordered all the constituents for a day's menu, from croissants and fresh juice in the morning, fresh soup, turkey and veggie alternative for lunch, cakes for tea, hot chocolate and cream for bedtime plus wine etc. One of the friends has just mailed me to thank me and politely (and guiltily, poor soul) said that she wasn't complaining in the least but I might like to know that much of the fresh produce is very short dated.

Potatoes dated BB 22/12
Veg BB 23/12
Turkey BB 24/12
Bakery items (muffins, crumpets and Pain au chocolat) BB 23/12

So, instead of this poor hard-working couple actually having a bit of a Christmas for once and enjoying the food on Christmas day they are having to eat it tomorrow. I feel rotten now, bloody Asda have taken the shine off my guesture and I feel guilty for what they've done.

AINU to email them with a verbal rocket or should I just accept that it's a nusy time of year, we've had bad weather and so on?

Sorry, my last message looks out of place. Was replying to SMP and Val (or rather DD of Val!) who are equally silly about their animals!

Sorry Sue! obviously expecting a different response Xmas Grin

:)

Thank you, aren't you a lovely bunch . Am giggling wildly at the idea of Princess Jackie having to walk up the stairs unaided. How very dare you Tainted!

And Pickgo, especially... thank you. :)

Definitely complain, and complain to the top, too. It's completely out of order to send such short-dated food out.

Oh and in your email mention what the couple do - you never know, they may get something free!

taintedsnow · 22/12/2010 22:06

She doesn't like it one little bit Val. She gets front paws on the first stairs, then those eyes (all dog owners know them!). Then she sort of waddles extremely slowly to show her distaste at the physical activity so close to sleep!

I am a big meanie!

Ormirian · 22/12/2010 22:10

That's odd. Normally they point it out and give you the opportunity to turn it down.

Potatoes, veg and bakery items will be fine post BB date. Mine always gets used post BB date cos theres only 3 of us, you won't die.

Meat is a different story, better to be safe than sorry, especially with poultry. Definately get a refund, terrible service, wonder how many others will suffer this with online orders.

I don't do turkey (not ate it once this yr so why xmas?) and my OH is nigerian so we prefer things like goat or mutton, which I've ordered both of from Graig farm in wales, they're brilliant.

ASDA do this EVERY year. I usually have to go 23rd or 24th Dec to get in date produce. This year I went to Sainsburys instead. Went yesterday evening, was lovely and quiet and all food is well in date, some being good till January!

Now I know what I'll be doing next year too!
