evil daily mail story here

Yes, I wouldn't take out a £1500 loan to pay for Christmas but providing she can pay it off (like she did the last one) then it's up to her.

Have a lovely Christmas if you're reading (and your children are very beautiful) Xmas Smile

I meant that the XP doesn't give a fuck about the kids.

theywillgrowup · 22/12/2010 12:09

thank god kara,thought u meant the mum,lol

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 22/12/2010 12:09

oh don't worry lolo - the interest rate on those loans will probably be 40% minimum. You're not missing out on much. Presuming she's gone through a "reputable" loan company. Then again she could have a "Very" account which frequently gives "Buy now pay next year" offers, as well as couple of interest free months to pay for stuff

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 22/12/2010 12:11

I wouldn't dare to comment on her having more children in an abusive relationship - it's rarely as simple as "walk away and don't even think about kids with them"

scurryfunge · 22/12/2010 12:11

Do you think the DM has paid her for the article and so she will be able to pay off the loan?

lololizzy · 22/12/2010 12:18

i wondered that..normally they would say 'has not been paid for this article'
Remember that Lizzy from Wifeswap got benefits stopped (i think?)as was claiming but doing interviews in mags

perfectstorm · 22/12/2010 12:27

I hate those sorts of stories because it sn't possible to live well on benefits, and if she is taking out a loan like that she can either not afford to pay it back, or they aren't eating properly, or she is getting cash from somewhere else.

It's vile that they make out a life on benefits is the life of Riley when it's shit. But it does grate a bit when I read about a family with 6 kids and they get more on benefits than the average income. I know per person in that family it still isn't much, but thing is it's a hell of a lot from the taxpayer. And I do object to someone staying at home with their kids at taxpayer expense casting aspersions on the working parents funding that lifestyle choice.

The Daily Mail are bastards and we obviously need a safety net if we're to have any claims to be a civilised society. But that safety net is sometimes abused.

bupcakesandcunting · 22/12/2010 12:29

Couldn't give a crap if they spent their benefits on diamond-encrusted plasma screens tbpfh with you.

Those are not beaufitul kids though. They look like the children out of that Aphex Twin video. Actually just the two girls who look like twins. The other two are cute I suppose.

headfairy · 22/12/2010 12:33

God the whole article is dripping with disgust, really really horrible reading. I hope they have a lovely christmas and the revolting person who wrote it has a crap one!

Barcelostica · 22/12/2010 12:38

Well it's clearly tosh because one of the kids is holding a MacBook Pro, yet apparently she spends up to £400 on each of them. I'd bloody love to know where she gets one of them for £400.

whatkatydidathome · 22/12/2010 12:39

What MumNWLondon said.

TwinklePants · 22/12/2010 12:40

bupcakes Xmas Grin

bupcakesandcunting · 22/12/2010 12:41

It's probably of some bloke called Bob the Flog or something, Barcelostica. People like this are usually versed in dealing in hooky goods too, you know?

GetOrfMoiLand · 22/12/2010 12:42

Is it actually a DM article?

I have not opened the link, but often those type of articles are sydicated from Closer magazine, which is basically News of the World in magazine form.

ALWAYS full of snidey articles about

-plebs on benefits with loads of kids and great big tellies
-young mothers
-feckless parenting to teens
-the fat

It's a disgrace.

bupcakesandcunting · 22/12/2010 12:43

I do love Closer though. It's so shit it's good.

MiasMARY · 22/12/2010 12:44

I hope they have a nice Christmas but I think her way of achieving it is a bit sad.

BalloonSlayer · 22/12/2010 12:55

Bloody hell I came close to putting a comment on the Daily Mail's web page. Just managed to stop myself in time. < wipes brow >

It would have been along the lines of why isn't this article called "Useless Idle Abusive Fuckwit of a Man leaves the Mother of his Children to get into Debt so his Children can have Christmas Presents while he keeps all his Money to himself"

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 22/12/2010 12:56

I bet she's in debt up to her ears not just the £1500 loan she's mentioned. I wonder if she's counting her credit accounts in with the loan - I bet not.

lololizzy · 22/12/2010 13:02

Bupcakes that's too cruel but Shock
Grin

WillowFae · 22/12/2010 13:04

The issue I have is that she is bringing her children up to expect that they CAN have anything they ask for. Yes, we all want to give our children what they ask for for Christmas, but this quote from her concerns me.

"?I don?t want to have to say to the kids, ?You can?t have that?. It?s not fair and I?m not going to do it."

Sometimes you have to though.

lololizzy · 22/12/2010 13:06

I don't see how designer clothes can make those kids happy. Sorry, but i really don't. Nor make her happy having to pay those debts off. Good luck to them but hope she can get on top of her money next yr or it's a downward slide and before she knows it, it's Christmas again

SmokinSanta · 22/12/2010 13:08

I dont get it. Am I missing some major benefit somewhere?? How can she afford anything other than bog standard things on benefits - I work P/T topped up with benefits with 2 young children as a single parent and have managed to scrape together about £70 for Christmas this year for everyone. I dont understand. She must have cash coming in from elsewhere surely??

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 22/12/2010 13:14

agree with you there Willow and lolo.

It's very sad really. I'll hold my hand up as a single mum currently on benefits, yes I do scrimp and save and try and get my DS's at least one "big" present a year (this year was a new bike each for their birthdays). But they know that if they get one "big" thing (either for Christmas or birthday) that they won't get much else. We alternate so one year they have their big present at Christmas, and the next at birthday (though this years "small" Christmas has gone out of the window because of the MN Santa Xmas Grin).

I think it's important for children to know (even fairly young ones like hers) that you can sometimes have the "big" stuff - but it usually means scrimping on the little stuff, and that you can't have LOTS of big stuff every time - or you might have to share it (the year I got the DS's a Wii it was a joint present for all of them).

And the debt - I'll bet my bottom dollar she's not including her credit accounts with her loan Sad

bupcakesandcunting · 22/12/2010 13:17

What is this MN santa that no fucker told me about? Xmas Sad

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 22/12/2010 13:23

bupcakesandcunting - go and click om active convo's - and click on the sticky at the top (The thank you thread) - it's heart warming reading and there are some incredibly generous and thoughtful MNers out there. Spending their money - that could have gone on extra stuff for their Christmas with their family on strangers to make strangers Christmas better

(though I'm secrtely a little Xmas Envy that I think one of the gifts I was sent from one MNer is going to trump my "main" present for DS1 Xmas Grin - it's sheer bloody genius - a clock powered by poatoes!!!)
