It is Christmas right?!

DS feeds at 7 before bed and I just fancy a relaxing glass of vino (or 2) but he wakes for his morning feed between 4 and 430am.

I wouldn't drink any later than 10pm so 6 hrs to clear 5ish units??? DS is 10 months so it's not like he's a newborn (or am I just making excuses to persuade myself it's ok)

oh and it's no good saying give him a bottle of formula at 4am, he rejected every type of bottle at 5 months which is a whole other story!

Hurry! I have the corkscrew at the ready!!

knew a biddie who recommended dummy dipped in whisky or rub whisky on gums

MoonUnitAlpha · 20/12/2010 20:01

So long as you're aren't so trashed you could drop/roll on the baby it'll be fine.

OmniaParatus · 20/12/2010 20:08

Just make sure you have plenty of water to drink as the main problem with drinking is that it can make you dehydrated and reduce your milk supply- enjoy!

sm as a Lanarkshire mum I'm deeply offended by your comments. DS is only on half a Tramadol now and DD gets really upset when denied her half of vodka in her evening bottle. They are hardly heavy drug users

As for putting whisky on a wean's dummy- what a waste! I find if you drink the whole bottle of an evening it is easier to sleep without them waking you up.

Millie1206 · 20/12/2010 20:36

Ah thanks everyone you have made me feel much better.... I shall quaff away guilt free!

I have been breastfeeding continuously (first dd and now ds) since 2007. Good god if I didn't have a glass of wine at night I would crack up, it's the only thing that keeps me sane!
Enjoy!!!!

PrincessScrumpy · 20/12/2010 22:05

My doctor told me to have a glass of wine and breastfeed as DD didn't sleep for 4 months and that was his advice!

minouminou · 20/12/2010 23:57

Geddit down ya!

Rindercella · 21/12/2010 00:13

Thank fuck for that.

I opened this thread with some trepidation of the reponses. I have a nearly 9 month old. I enjoy the odd glass of wine (or two). I shall now feel (slightly) less guilty about that fact.

Millie, enjoy your drink Xmas Grin

TCOB · 21/12/2010 00:20

Millie - thank you so much for starting this thread. I cannot tell you how much the idea of all these merry MNetters guzzling away has cheered me up (and made me feel less guilty).

And a merry Christmas one and all! Xmas Smile

I won't bore you with the maths but basically if you managed to maintain a lethal does (yes lethal, so you're dead) for an entire day you would give your baby the equivalent of a dose of gripe water.

Please don't get hung up on whether or not you'd give gripe anyway, the point is it's not possible to get to even that level without killing yourself.

randomama · 21/12/2010 00:32

confuddled is that actually true?

scottishmummy I am shocked you would suggest us lanarkshire mums partake in Tonic Wine drinking!!

It's K Cider here! Grin

[is off to research Poppy seed tea for my two dd's who are still awake!]

why don't you just express some before drinking anything and give it to the baby when they need it? seems quite a simple, non-debate necessary solution to me.

confuddledDOTcom · 21/12/2010 01:35

randomama it is, it's maths I've done for myself.

Have a look at how much is in your blood (which is identical to breastmilk) to be over the drink-drive limit/ to be lethal then work out how much milk your baby takes (150ml per kilo per day) and how much of that is going to be alcohol.

Over the drink drive limit your blood has a similar BAC to orange juice.

anonymosity why would you need to do that? It's safer to breastfeed when drunk than bottle feed!

Baublelicious · 21/12/2010 01:45

The OP's baby will not take a bottle, so no point in expressing beforehand.

FanjoForTheMincePies · 21/12/2010 04:33

I used to have my dummy dipped in whisky when teething, by my granny Blush

PenguinArmy · 21/12/2010 06:25

I don't worry about alcohol getting though to her, as it's tiny.

My criteria is whether I feel safe to handle a baby/drive.

Hope you enjoyed it

scottishmummy · 21/12/2010 09:49

inevitably someone has had a wee formula unsafe dig.surprising since op is discussing a bf baby. and not at all related to the thread.but hey ho

FindingAManger · 21/12/2010 10:22

saving this thread for May when DC2 arrives Grin

AliBellandthe40jingles · 21/12/2010 10:44

Having a glass of wine while BFing can really help babies with colic and wind apparently - my own research with DS suggests it is true Grin

That gem came from a consultant obstetrician :)
