AIBU?

Share your dilemmas and get honest opinions from other Mumsnetters.

To wonder when it became ok to be so fucking sanctimonious about someone's opinion!

I have noticed, in my time here, that in many replies to AIBU threads, the tone and content can be very high and mighty and just plain bloody rude!

Now, we all have differences of opinion, that is fine. I have nooooooo problem with someone disagreeing with me, but if they personally attack me and are rude, I am, and I have told them to fuck off back to their sanctamonious high chair!

There are many threads where I don't agree with the OP but I am not going to attack them and be rude (unless it is something that is as awful as hitting kids then Might be...). There are ways to reply and not attack surely? I mean, I don't agree with the lady who started a thread about her toddler wearing makeup bur I'm not gonna attack her personally for it. There are ways to reply and I find it bloody awful that some people on here think it is acceptable to personally attack OP's and be so rude.

I think AIBU is an unfair reflection of MN as a whole and I would hide it but people do post in there as a default because it gets high traffic. It's a bit miserable.

But please tell me OP that you've put word of the day toilet paper on your Christmas list. If you're really sold on sanctimonious, most computers have a thesaurus application. For the love of God, change it up a bit.

You know what, not throwing round any accusations like, but...

.. if I was drunk and unpleasant on a Sunday morning, I like to think I wouldn't go round posting weird stuff on MN.

Because AIBU doesn't disappear, and eventually people put 2+2 together ifthe y haven't already.

Limara · 19/12/2010 11:57

I agree with OP. It's not the difference of opinion I have a problem with, it's the personal attacks and rudeness.

I've always put it down to the fact they weren't brought up properly.

tethersjinglebellend · 19/12/2010 12:00

Have I slipped into a parallel universe?

Who's the baddie?

ginhag · 19/12/2010 12:03

I now have absolutely NO idea what is going on

I checked though, and I'm not drunk, so I don't think I'm the baddie Confused

sockythesockpuppet · 19/12/2010 12:04

I also agree with OP. It's not the difference of opinion I have a problem with, it's the personal attacks and rudeness.

I've always put it down to the fact they weren't brought up properly.

They are NOT nice!

chillax !! like it

classydiva · 19/12/2010 12:14

People are always more vocal via the net than they would be via face to face contact. That is the way of the world.

You tend to type without thinking on the net so your first response is in fact the most honest because you have not pondered it.

If you do not wish to be disagreed with don't use the internet.

So many personalities so many people, odds on someone is not going to agree with something someone else has said.

Avoidingargosthischristmas · 19/12/2010 12:15

YANBU. Good for you for posting it OP. I have thought this and been tempted to start a similar thread. If you post in here then refuse to toe the official MN party line having weighed up all the responses then you are given a drubbing of the highest order and it can get pretty nasty. I am not scared of AIBU but I think it brings out the worst in some posters. Very entertaining though Xmas Grin.

tethersjinglebellend · 19/12/2010 12:21

Couldn't agree more, OP. People who resort to rudeness and personal attacks are a bunch of ugly ignorant cunts.

catinthehat2 · 19/12/2010 12:22

fnarr

usualsuspect · 19/12/2010 12:23

Is there an official MN party line? I have not been given that rule book
