To not go to my husband christmas meal tonight

Decided not to go in the end for the following reasons

1 My 5 year old has been poorly all day with a high temp and he didnt want me to go

2 Its in a village in the middle of nowhere. Atleast 30 minutes drive away and journey involves going down windy country fen roads with ditches either side. With ice and possibly snowing tonight I was worried and am very worried about dh going although dh said I'm being silly and if everyone lived like that noone would go anyone or leave their house.

3 Also 3 course meal at 8. Hate eating that late but 1 and 2 are the main reason tbh.

YANBU if your son is genuinely too ill for you to leave him. YABVU if you are using that as an excuse.

We all hate Christmas dos. Grit your teeth.

ilove · 18/12/2010 20:22

YABVU

ohdearyme11 · 18/12/2010 20:23

I agree with previous poster.

My dh is out on his tonight but partners not invited. Basically it's another excuse for a boys night out.

Georgimama · 18/12/2010 20:25

Snow? Ice? Ditches? You'd be mad to get in a car tonight unless you had no choice. Of course YANBU.

LifeForRent · 18/12/2010 20:29

The dinner isn't in Siberia.

There are severe weather warnings across much of the country and people are being urged not to travel unless it is essential. This isn't essential, and the OP doesn't want to go.

springchik · 18/12/2010 20:31

Thanks georgimama dh kept making jokes and that and couldnt see my point of view at all. Said things like you only fall in there once. Not funny at all! :( Also my ds1 has hardly moved from the sofa all day had a temp of 39 although nurofen bought it down to 38 at bedtime and he didnt want me to go. He also has a history of febrile convulsions whenn he has a temp. Too late now even if iabu as the meal would have started now and I'm on my own with myboys.

Best place for you. Hope your son feels better soon, febrile convulsions are so frightening.

VallhalaLalalalalalalalaaaaaa · 18/12/2010 20:32

YANBU. If you don't want to go, don't go, it's as simple as that. No need for excuses. I'd be saying that if it was your business's meal, much less your husband's. In reality (without meaning in the least to sound rude to you) it's got nothing to do with you, you aren't under the slightest obligation to attend.

Put your feet up and relax. :)

springchik · 18/12/2010 20:35

I will :)

stay in! my car has nearly crashed twice today and i'm in a city!

i dont see how yabvu... ilove???

ilove · 18/12/2010 20:41

Ah well, she only gave the rest of the info AFTER didn't she!!! Drip feeding!

springchik · 18/12/2010 20:43

The only information necessary imo is my child is ill and doesnt want me to go and the roads are country icy roads. They are my reasons for not going simple as that.

OP posts:
springchik · 18/12/2010 20:46

Also my dh totally understands me not wanting to leave ds1 but didnt understand me not wanting to go because of icy country roads Hmm So no animosity or anything between myself and dh btw!

OP posts:
classydiva · 18/12/2010 20:50

I think you would have found any excuse, you really did not want to go.

Georgimama · 18/12/2010 20:53

Has anyone who thinks the OP is being unreasonable looked out of the window in the last few hours? Seriously.

LifeForRent · 18/12/2010 20:54

Oh stop being so precious. It's just snow. The Siberians manage to get on with their lives.

springchik · 18/12/2010 20:55

No I would have gone. Otherwise why arrange babysitters (my inlaws) and then cancel at the last minute?

OP posts:
JarethTheGoblinKing · 18/12/2010 20:58

YANBU - Hmm at the posters who think that the OP is BU. Aren't there recommendations NOT to travel unless it's essential?

OP, I think you'd actually be pretty idiotic to drive 30 mins in ice and snow unless you absolutely bloody had to :)

Georgimama · 18/12/2010 20:59

The Siberians have snow chains and houses built on stilts and that kind of thing.

LifeForRent · 18/12/2010 21:00

Ok, well Russia, the Ukraine, North France, Canada....

JarethTheGoblinKing · 18/12/2010 21:00

..and live in snow all year round!

JarethTheGoblinKing · 18/12/2010 21:01

Yes, LFR - all are used to snow and have things in place to deal with it. The UK doesn't.

Mind you.. even places in Scandinavia are having trouble at the moment.

springchik · 18/12/2010 21:05

I am really worried about my dh but he was determined to go and thought I was making a fuss about nothing - regarding the snow that is.
