To not go to my husband christmas meal tonight

Decided not to go in the end for the following reasons

1 My 5 year old has been poorly all day with a high temp and he didnt want me to go

2 Its in a village in the middle of nowhere. Atleast 30 minutes drive away and journey involves going down windy country fen roads with ditches either side. With ice and possibly snowing tonight I was worried and am very worried about dh going although dh said I'm being silly and if everyone lived like that noone would go anyone or leave their house.

3 Also 3 course meal at 8. Hate eating that late but 1 and 2 are the main reason tbh.

and the fact Britain is where it is geographically, and the fact we had snow last year...didn't prompt anyone to be prepared?

catsinthejinglebelfry · 18/12/2010 21:10

(a) of course you're not being U to stay with a sick child

(b) of course you're not being U to heed the advice not to make unnecessary journeys

(c) of course you're not being U to miss your other half's Xmas do. Gah! I missed mine, thank goodness for nativity play clashes. Now I can just bask in the gossip and be pleased that I didn't add to it!

Georgimama · 18/12/2010 21:10

Yep, I have been prepared by stocking up, finishing all my Christmas shopping early and not making unnecessary journeys. Like in Siberia.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 18/12/2010 21:12

where do you live LFR, have you had snow today?
Agree that councils etc should have been more prepared with snow ploughs etc, but in our area it wasn't even forecast (we were due a 'flurry', and we have 6")

I wouldn't want to be on the road tonight. Not because I'm worried about driving in snow, because i'm not... more because there are SO many other people who are driving like morons with 6" of snow on their roof.

IAmReallyFabNow · 18/12/2010 21:12

YANBU.

I hope your son doesn't get worse as you have no one with you to stay with your other children.

Hope your dh gets home safe.

Ormirian · 18/12/2010 21:18

5 yr being ill is enough of a reason.

The others aren't at all.

ChippingIn · 18/12/2010 21:19

In countries where they get snow every year it is worth spending the money on things that make life in the snow safer - getting snow all over England is a very recent thing - it's going to take time for people/councils/govt to be really ready for it. Being able to carry on through this weather costs £££, not everyone can afford to do the things that make it safer.

and it's only a dinner with work people - hardly a necessity - for either of them.

Ormirian · 18/12/2010 21:22

I missed out on a pub quiz (we know how to live!) last night because DD was ill. Other female team member was also not there. DH and his mate found another couple of quizzers - both male. They lost - first time in 3 months. I tried not to be too smug.....

Sorry...not relevant. I just wanted to gloat share.

spongecakelover · 18/12/2010 21:32

YANBU. I didn't go to my DH's Xmas do. Saving our babysitting credits for our nights out with friends and to places we actually both know and love.

Plus you've got enough on your plate with sick 5 yo. Snow or no snow. Reeelaax.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 18/12/2010 23:22

Didn't realise that Kewcumber :)

In fairness, they probably do have more snow than most though Wink

springchik · 18/12/2010 23:24

I'm sure he's fine springchick.. guess this thread didn't make you feel any better :(

prettyfly1 · 18/12/2010 23:38

I too was meant to go to dp's party tonight, it was also in the country (on a farm) I also did not go. Son is ill, weather is shite and I wasnt particularly inclined to put an eighteen year old in the position of a cabbie home with the current weather system - OP YANBU, everyone else Biscuit.
