I am absolutely SICK AND TIRED of reading about Muslims this, Islam that.

I am SICK of reading from ignorant morons on Facebook "Send Muslims home".

AIBU to think that this is ridiculous, where would we send "Muslims" home too? Islam isn't a race/nationality it's a religion...

What on earth is with the hatred? Afghanistan haven't threatened Britain-and most people think that the Army is there to "protect" Britain...

AIBU to think that this is just a small percentage of ill educated, red top reading, morons?

OP posts:
MerrilyDefective · 15/12/2010 20:26

Riven, i wholly agree that attacks on anyone are scary,be it christian on muslim or vice versa.
You say daily attacks on mosques and muslims you say they go unreported.
When was the last attack on a mosque.?

MerrilyDefective · 15/12/2010 20:27

In this country,i mean.

hairyfairylights · 15/12/2010 20:32

I COMPLETELY agree, OP. I know several practicing Muslims who I've worked with over the years. They are, without exception, peace loving people.

wubbzy1981 · 15/12/2010 20:34

YANBU

I hope it is just ignorance that inspires people to say these things.

Same as all welsh are sheep sh*gers and essex girls are slts, unfortunately Muslims have been given a tag which is awful.

Ask these people to point to the places on the map and they would have trouble. All to be taken with a pinch of salt!

wubbzy1981 · 15/12/2010 20:36

Also think these rants are born out of fear rather than hate.

The media could do more to create understanding IMHO.

scouserabroad · 15/12/2010 20:38

YANBU. After the poppy burning episode I was shocked to see how many of my facebook friends posted vile anti-Muslim statuses (statii?). And how many people clicked "like" or piled in in agreement. I didn't for one second agree with burning the poppies, but some of the things people were posting was terrible.

I have a Muslim Dh & Muslim DDs and cannot look at my "friends" in the same way anymore.

Vladimirspukin, I have often questioned and / or criticised Islam, mainly because I am married to a Muslim who would like me to live as he does, and I don't want to. I don't think that's racist, it's just having a difference of opinion.

Racism is when you criticise "Muslims" as if they were one homogenous group.

Are you Muslim Riven? Those incidents you described are truly shocking, even more so that I hadn't heard of one of them! The media in this country are truly disturbing.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 15/12/2010 21:56

YANB to be sick and tired of it.

Some people don't seem to understand that Muslim is a faith and is practiced by 25% of the World's population in the majority countries. However I can only assume that the 'racism' element comes from the fact that the countries with the largest Muslim populations are Pakistan, India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Iran, Egypt, Nigeria, Algeria, and Morocco. Therefore people want non-caucasian looking people 'sent home'. Yes they are just very ignorant.

Life for Rent - whilst Afghanistan itself hasn't threatened Britain it is a base for the terrorists that threatened Britain and the rest of the world. The Taliban gave safe haven to Al Qaeda in Afghanistan, which allowed terrorists to plan and carry out terrorist attacks around the world, including the atrocities of September 11.

So actually they are there to protect Britain (and the rest of the World) as part of a coalition of Nations. No?

newwave · 15/12/2010 22:02

I was par of a conversation after the tube bombings and one person stated that they (muslims) should be rounded up and "sent home" when I pointed out many were born here the reply I got was.

"If your cat had a litter of kittens in a stable they would not be horses, they may have been born here but their not British as far as I am concerned"

This is an irrational fear of those perceived to be alien

mamadiva · 15/12/2010 22:06

YANBU, I think it needs to be made clearer to the general public that Islam does not generally rpomote terrorism that is the Extremist end of it which does'nt actually have much to do with the religion at all.

People need to be informed more of this rather than Muslim/Islam = Terrorist!!

My Uncle has been in Afghan for years now training up local men to be a decent police force so they are not all out there to fight 'the enemy', some of them are there to help! Of course on the whole they are there to protect us but not so much from the people who are already there more for the easily led who may buy into all the bullshit about the 'western world' and act upon it therefore putting us in danger.

begonyabampot · 15/12/2010 22:07

My neighbour wears the hijab and was born in the Uk. She has had her scarf pulled off in the street and in another incident was told to go back to where she came from by some polish immigrants. She definitely feels intimidated and does not feel safe going out in the evening. She says she didn't feel quite this bad before 9/11 and that the general attitude has changed greatly. Was reading the Mail earlier where they published photos of the suicide bombers very young children - the comments were awful.

Alouiseg · 15/12/2010 22:14

this doesn't really help the cause

pa1 · 15/12/2010 22:21

Sadly what people seem to forget is that when terrorists place a bomb, they are just as likely to kill muslims as anyone else. Its just as horrifying/frightening for muslims after one of these attacks, even more so, as you know the anti-muslim feeling is going to be even greater.

magicmummy1 · 15/12/2010 22:27

Honestly speaking, I find the level of islamophobia in this country very frightening. I am concerned about how acceptable it seems to be, even among relatively educated, liberal-minded people, to buy into the most ridiculous assumptions about Muslims on the basis of inflammatory media articles which have little grounding in fact. Needless to say, most of the people who buy into these assumptions are people who don't actually know any Muslims in real life, and therefore believe the hype, but really, they should know better.

I often find myself wondering where all of this is heading.

MerrilyDefective · 15/12/2010 23:48

Ok Riven, i take your point.

Which was the last person to be a suicde bomber?

begonyabampot · 16/12/2010 00:03

classydiva - is that a 'they' as in this boys parents or a 'they' as in muslims? I don't really understand your point.

BrandyButterPie · 16/12/2010 00:04
