as 'pieces'. As in: "I have a few pieces from Primark's Summer 08 Collection"

OP posts:
CristinaTheAstonishing · 13/12/2010 20:44

Can't say I've noticed about pieces, though. I think I'd say 'things'. But obviously, not from Primark :)

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 13/12/2010 20:44

Hate "pieces". And "product".
As bad as saying "property" when you mean "house" ffs.
YY to the "pop" thing too.

aBrightStarWithFestiveWays · 13/12/2010 20:47

'bang on trend'

I also can't get out of my head the stylist from X Factor explaining how she gave Katie 'an orange lip'. It sounds like a kind of slush puppy. Nnnnnnngggg.

nannynobblystockingnobs · 13/12/2010 20:49

I laughed so much at the exploded eyeballs that DD1 demanded to know what I was doing :o
I too am rocking a bootleg jog pant, a pink fleece slipper, a Primani cardigan-chic piece and an ill- fitting bra for my tit.

nannynobblystockingnobs · 13/12/2010 20:49

Aaaaagghhhhh bang on trend makes me want to hurt people Confused

BelligerentGhoul · 13/12/2010 20:52

Pmsl at 'my tit' :)

Monkeytoo · 13/12/2010 21:00

I hate it when people say, I am (for instance) channelling Brigitte Bardot. Also I'm giving a nod to the fifties or whatever. Arghh.

Oh yes and beauty journalists that refer to themselves as we as in 'we loved the way it made our hair shiny and glossy'. Oh god and what's with the over use of the word 'preternaturally' as in 'her skin was preternaturally gorgeous'. Drives me crazy.

OK - I will stop now!

BonniePrinceBilly · 13/12/2010 21:24

But product is useful, as it encompasses all kinds of stuff for your hair. Its easier to say use some product than to say use some wax or gel or hairspray or mousse or whatever you have or like..."

Meh, there are more annoying words. "Pieces" is pretty stupid though, especially as it means sandwiches!

LifeForRent · 13/12/2010 21:27

In that respect shouldn't it be product(s) plural?

FunnyLittleFrog · 13/12/2010 21:30

I hate the phrase 'This season it's all about... a wide legged jean / a camel knit / a wedge sandal' or some such crapola.

Someone at work (and I don't work in fashion) actually talks like that.

Actuallawyer · 13/12/2010 21:35

I have invested in a classic striped pyjama. I am looking forward to a return above the rate of inflation.

SantaIsMyLoveSlave · 13/12/2010 21:42

None of these is as annoying as "to die for".

hellymelly · 13/12/2010 21:45

"iconic" that makes me wince every time. And a 2bright red lip" as though one of them would be a totally different colour.

hellymelly · 13/12/2010 21:46

"a Bright red lip" (didn't press the shift button)

Dawnybabe · 13/12/2010 21:46

I love the phrase 'to rock' a look.

Always makes me picture someone furiously dancing up and down in their fashionable outfit, like that shows it off to it's best advantage.

This thread is rocking.

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 13/12/2010 21:47

Referencing is another one that irritates the hell out of me. As in, Primarni are referencing Annie Hall with a high-waist trouser (or should that be pant).

stressheaderic · 13/12/2010 21:50

Also hate 'pieces' here, unless you are talking about 'of eight' as an above poster said.

Working a look/channelling/rocking a look/having a moment/steal her style...all utterly wnaky fashion journalistic drivel. Hate the lot of it.

missismonky · 13/12/2010 21:59

"Wall art". That makes me squirm.

I'm so glad to find other people that rage about this shit too...sigh.

Baublepink · 13/12/2010 22:11

Urrgh. Pieces. Can I say I also LOATHE the word luxe, which appears in almost every fashion article these days, and "picks" as in "My picks" or "top picks" re articles about polo necks, or winter coats, or cashmere scarfs.

What else... Ah yes. Covet. Covet .

"I have always coveted my grandmother's pearls". Yeeeargh. It's like faux. There should be a label called Covet & Faux.

"I am coveting this season's pieces in soft nude shades, teamed with my picks of co-ordinating accessories in my accent shade of violet purple faux ponyskin which is currently bang on trend". Sick bucket required.

Fibilou · 13/12/2010 22:13

"A few pieces from Primarni" = " 1 sleeve, half a hem, a peter pan collar and a length of lace"

Katisha · 13/12/2010 22:15

Actually, I irrationally hate the use of "bits" as well. As in "I'm just going shopping to get a few bits."
Don't know why, but it makes me go squirmy.

Iwasthefourthwiseman · 13/12/2010 22:22

Panzee is this your slipper? Xmas Grin

LadyBiscuit · 13/12/2010 22:24

yy to all of this. I had to throw an interiors mag away a few months ago because the word 'pops' appeared in almost every article. Made me feel murderous.

I loathe product too. 'Would you like a little product on your hair?' Well, that really depends on what that is doesn't it? Semen is product but no, I don't want it on my hair, thanks.

Shodan · 13/12/2010 23:19

And (I recognise that this might be a tad unreasonable of me but I Don't Care) 'outside space'.

It's a garden, ffs. Or possibly a back yard. Or a patio.

ArsMamatoria · 13/12/2010 23:24

I'll add 'sourcing' and 'critiquing' to the list.
