To find the thought of Camilla being poked with a stick mildly amusing

I know I'm being childish but the thought of it just tickles me somehow.

Kaloki, I think you're right it's the phrasing that does it.

I'm no royalist, but I don't hate them as people and I wouldn't want them to be physically attacked or even frightened. I did see the irony of them being "orf to the theatre" while lots of angry young people protest against the cuts to universities, there is something a bit ancien regime about it.

But there was something funny about the way they reported it. I'm sure it wasn't lost on the editors either.

scottishmummy · 12/12/2010 23:39

attack by unknown perpetrator not funny, esp given the circumstances

KalokiMallow · 12/12/2010 23:40

I don't think anyone thinks the attack is funny, just the wording of the reports.

ChippingIn · 12/12/2010 23:45

Daft moo shouldn't have had the window OPEN FGS.

The reporting was funny 'poked by a stick' even if the 'attack' wasn't. However, it's not that big a deal compared to the other events of the evening, yet it's continually getting top billing on the news.

nzshar · 12/12/2010 23:51

Thats the thing why the hell was the window down? Soooooo naive don't ya think?

tallwivglasses · 13/12/2010 00:07

DI: 'there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded...'

She's the archetypal OW.

I'm not a Princess Di fan - just a thought.

Goblinchild · 13/12/2010 00:09

You mean that protester-wiv-a-stick was channelling Diana?

MummieHunnie · 13/12/2010 00:11

goblin Grin

tallwivglasses · 13/12/2010 00:15

Who really knows????

blushington · 13/12/2010 00:17

Charles loved her before he even met Diana, though. He was told to marry Diana. It was the wrong thing for both of them.

expatinscotland · 13/12/2010 00:18

Given what happened in Sweden yesterday, I don't find stuff like that funny at all.

Maelstrom · 13/12/2010 00:19

Nobody is reporting about bystanders, passers by and other people caught in the middle of the mob during kettling.

I guess the incident is reported so much because it shows that the next king could have been easily killed had there been anyone there willing to cause more damage than poking Camilla with a stick.

Contact??? are the aliens around us and we have not noticed yet?

[sniggers]

tallwivglasses · 13/12/2010 00:20

I know blush, but poor old Camilla wasn'y pure enough, or something.

MummieHunnie · 13/12/2010 00:22

blushing, Camilla did not wait for Charles, she married PB instead, so Camilla and that other Australian bird he had hanging around who feel mysteriously out of a window, both got friendly with Dianna and advised Charles that she would be a good match to him as the two women were married. Charles actually dug Dianna for the first few years you know and he and Camilla and the other bird didn't carry on during that time!

MummieHunnie · 13/12/2010 00:23

Maelstrom, well it was the foreign secretary that stated "contact" maybe she did mean et lol x

blushington · 13/12/2010 00:27

Camilla was already married to PB, who was a friend of Charles. But it's well-known that Charles and Diana was an arranged marriage, the Queen and Queen Mother orchestrated it with her grandmother who was a lady-in-waiting. Diana got bulimia before the wedding because she knew Charles and Camilla were still 'together'.

Can you tell I recently watched a very trashy documentary about Charles and Diana??

MummieHunnie · 13/12/2010 00:33

Blushing, I heard that also, that the grandmothers had a hand in it, they had tried at least one of Diana's older sisters first, that did not work out, and Camilla and the other bird got friendly with Dianna, Dianna used to buy dressed from the other bird, she became a liability as she was Australian with new money and Charles dumped her eventually as she could not be as descreet a mistress as Camilla!

tallwivglasses · 13/12/2010 00:35

Ffs Who here hasn't ever been threatened or felt terrified?

Most of us have at one time or another. For a lot of of us sadly, many times.

Camilla will be okay. She got poked, etc.

I somehow don't think she'll be worrying about her January credit-card bill.

Maelstrom · 13/12/2010 00:37

If he had only grow a pair and marry the person he loved from the start... poor poor poor man, forced to marry a lovely girl almost a decade younger than him. Evil nans. nobody can be trusted anymore.

LaraJade · 13/12/2010 00:42

A young guy trying to hurt (to be honest) a much older woman (who has had health problems) with a stick really disgusts me. I don't like camilla but i hate mob violence against anyone.
It's sad about the young lad in hospital, but there are also seriously injured police.
The student leaders need to distance themselves now from the thugs because the ordinary WC people (who don't go to uni, whose idea of bettering themselves is to join the army or police) are sick seeing a bunch of kids attacking people and vandalising FFS the cenotaph.

Maelstrom · 13/12/2010 00:46

The question is how to distance themselves from the thugs? it is not that invitations are issued and checked on attendance.

Having said that I think that some student leaders should be able to publicly accept that those who acted violently should NOT be excused.

MisSalLaneous · 13/12/2010 01:00

The wording was probably a bit unfortunate, yes, but I think it was such a horrible thing to happen to her. It could have been our moms. Well, not the limo etc, but could be walking down the street and attacked, and no, then it would obviously not be funny at all. So, to summarise my feeling (and I suspect most others) - funny wording, horrible thing.

Camilla has grown on me - I now quite like her. I also admire her for getting on with the planned evening, not going home crying, which I probably would have done!

LaraJade · 13/12/2010 01:03

Sorry bit pissed off, me + mate just did pub quiz, felt thick + badly educated next to the local uni students :(.
Not their fault.

Biscuitscoco · 13/12/2010 07:44

No-one has reported a policeman in hospital having undergone major surgery after life threatening wallop on head by a protester have they?

A 20 year old boy suffered a stroke after being assaulted with a truncheon - and then was refused admittance to the nearest hospital until the ambulance man intervened.

I find that more shocking than arguing over whether Camilla was poked with a stick.

Animation · 13/12/2010 07:55

On one level it's not funny, but on another it is, - in a Karma kind of way. She didn't half cause Diana a lot of misery - and Charles.
