If you have a black/neon pink Christmas tree, I will judge you. Can't help it.

I have blue lights. I didn't want them - DD chose them and DH agreed. Everytime I look at the tree I miss multicoloured flashing fairylights. Its just not Christmas without those

MsFox · 09/12/2010 16:15

I think the fact that anyone that has them are making excuses says it all SparkleSoiree.

I heard Holly on This Morningsomeone say she's got proper candles from Switzerland on her tree Envy

Well I have a fibre optic tree this year. I think it may be black too. I wanted one that would look nice (for childrens eyes) if I hung no decorations or lights on it. Yes you heard me right, I am having a naked tree this year. DS drives me mad each year with his obsession with throwing the decorations around the room. This year he appears to be no more mature (he is 3) so I am causing myself the least stress possible while still having a tree.

Look down on me all you like, I don't care Xmas Grin

toddlerama · 09/12/2010 16:18

I managed to get a green one on freecycle! Am so excited as it's the first year we've had one (couldn't justify the cost). As chuffed as I am to have a Christmas tree for free, had it been black or pink I would probably have put it straight back on freecycle. Grin

mickeyjohn · 09/12/2010 16:20

I am v judgey on Christmas trees. I hate coloured lights and tinsel - uuurgghh!! Mine is a haven of white lights and Scandinavian dangly things. Lovely!!! :)

Bingtata · 09/12/2010 16:21

I love coloured lights and tinsel - I can't stand white lighted IKEAish trees Grin

MsFox · 09/12/2010 16:22

Sounds just like mine mickeyjohn. Except mine has the sudden addition of a train and a few blocks of duplo thanks to DS2 Hmm

MsFox · 09/12/2010 16:28

You've definately got a neon pink one ninah. With black tinsel. Bet ya.

You can judge my tree all you like, we have insel, coloured lights, multi-coloured baubles, ds's creations....and to top it off, the downstairs ceilings are decorated with tacky tasteful garlandsXmas Grin dh's to blame

I judge any christmas tree that is supposedly tasteful and understated. They are meant to be tacky as hell, surely!

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 09/12/2010 16:29

tinsel

MsFox · 09/12/2010 16:30

But is it a green tree doyouthinktheysaurus?

"she's got proper candles from Switzerland on her tree"

Do you think she'll light them?

GetOrfMoiLand · 09/12/2010 16:40

I have always had a real green tree with very simple lights and baubles.

But BOLLOCKS TO IT I saw a 6 foot gold tinsel tree and I am having that this year, good taste be damned.

SparkleSoiree · 09/12/2010 17:03

Well I always have a green tree with red and golds, usually very traditional in all decoration.

This year however I have gone for a winter wonderland theme so have the green tree but with clear and icy blue twinkly lights. There are big and small silver, white and blue baubles with silver and white tinsel. Everyone has commented on how wintry it looks and although it is not my usual traditional colours I am quite pleased at it for a first attempt. Grin

CuppaTeaJanice · 09/12/2010 17:07

Surely your tree is an extension of your personal taste?

So, for example, I wear clompy black boots, listen to HIM and Evanescence, have a mannequin in my living room and a disco mirror ball in my hallway, and sparkly glitter flooring throughout the house. I also have a black Christmas tree with blue lights, purple, gold, bronze and blue decorations, and a penguin on top.

People who have magnolia walls, wear M&S fleeces, block paving driveways and holiday on the Spanish Costas will probably also have a boring green Christmas tree.

See, black tree owners have judgey pants too!! Xmas WinkXmas Grin

Joolyjoolyjoo · 09/12/2010 17:07

I can't wait to get my tree this weekend now! Xmas Grin, snow permitting.

I haven't seen any black trees, but white ones seemed to be the in thing last year around here. Not my thing, tbh, but each to their own. I try not to judge, lest someone comes along and judges my overloaded tree, replete with tat ornaments made by the kids!

HalfTermHero · 09/12/2010 17:13

YANBU. But I will not judge those under the age of 16. I can see how a nice pink tree would appeal to a 12 yr old, might even look quite nice in their bedroom.

harvalp · 09/12/2010 17:19

The tree has, at least, to look genuine, but the most important thing is that it has to be totally loaded with decorations of all colours and sparkles, collected over the years. Taste should play no part.

'Designer' trees with themed colours otoh are extremely vulgar.

MsFox · 09/12/2010 17:23

Bet you saw it in Wilkos GetOrf...?!

OP posts:
greygirl · 09/12/2010 17:28

i went to a 'christmas tree festival' where different groups had done different ways of decorating trees. they all looked lovely to me - but some more than others!

i like trees that have different sorts of deccies - my sister has colour co-ordinated ones and i find it looks a bit 'shop bought' and sterile.

so a pink tree and crazy tinsel etc is fine by me?(even if not in my house Xmas Grin)

overmydeadbody · 09/12/2010 17:33

I think you are right CuppaTeaJanice, your tree sounds like it is in keeping with your tastes in general.

My tree only contains decorations made by us, so resemblesa tree decorated by the local nursery children, but it is in keeping with our house where most things are hand made, home made, recycles, salvaged and brought home from the dump.

Shiny baubals would look out of place.

valleyqueen · 09/12/2010 17:52

I have White and blue LED lights, but in my defense I sent dd to the local B&Q last year and that's whatbshe came back with. They have grown on me and I like them.

My tree is green however and I hate tinsel, it makes my teeth go on edge.

Bonsoir · 09/12/2010 17:54

I agree with CuppaTeaJanice.

My Christmas tree is an embodiment of my personal taste and is therefore elegant and floral!
