It's been done before, but I couldn't bring myself to read the threads as they would have made me cry - with longing!

I'm on the breadline, literally, and am a good budget cook. Lentils, five meals from a chicken, etc. BUT!! Today I spent some of my cold weather money on a joint of sirloin. I roasted it very fast, very hot. Brown on the outside & BLOODY on the inside. God, it's gorgeous!

Just eaten about half a pound of the stuff, and feel healthier than I have in months!

Fellow lovers of dead creatures, share your lascivious recipes here Xmas Wink I'm ready to read and slaver.

I'm LOVING your posts, Asteria! I empathise - my joyful post was prompted by having eaten a huge chunk of dripping flesh, after months of 'restrained' cooking. My blood group is A but I'm definitely a savage hunter, diet-wise!

I have no qualms, I'm afraid. I once witnessed a veal calf being killed in a small Italian village - I was drawn by its screams. That evening I ate it blush And I like alligator!

Did you know, the life form that Quorn is made from is biologically the same as TOENAILS? Grin

Am off to buy some more cheap meat ... I would buy freedom meat, for sure, if I weren't so broke. Now I'm poor I'm actually grateful for unethical farming.

Ooh, yes, radiohelen, that's like Kleftiko, isn't it?

A vegetarian colleague was (sort of) having a go at us for eating meat and proclaimed 'I never eat anything with eyes'. I unhelpfully pointed out she eats potatoes Wink

canyou · 08/12/2010 13:41

As a non meat eater due to health/digestive problems I say EAT EAT as much as you can due to the fact that I love my cosy leather coat, my shoes boots and bags which I wear to ensure there is no waste Grin

SpotSplatterSplash · 08/12/2010 13:42

Grin @ Tis Baby Cow.
Baby Cow = Delicious.

GraceAwayInAManger · 08/12/2010 13:46

Oh, canyou, what a pity you can't eat meat Xmas Sad

Whilst I know meat & leather usually come from different animals, I am very happy to eat more dead calf so you can have lovely soft Italian gloves Grin

Mean-minded chuckles at potatoes with soulful eyes, Ickleboo.

Mmmm meat!
There is a restaurant/pub in Australia that is labelled as 'Brisbanes worst vergetarian restaurant'. Does an awesome steak.

I have eaten camel, horse, dog, snake, kangaroo, crocodile, ostrich, rabbit, cow, sheep, pig, goat, frog, snail, chicke, duck, goose, pigeon and it was all DELICIOUS!!!

Asteria · 08/12/2010 14:37

AND ANOTHER THING! We have eyes at the front of our heads (unless you are really unfortunate) that would suggest we are predators - I haven't seen many potato hunts recently...

Rollmops · 08/12/2010 14:45

Oh sue me....
I love Foie Gras, caviar (can't eat too much of the stuff as bloat up like Michelin Man - high salt content), veal...
They taste soooo good.
On the meat [yummmmm] front, Steak Tartare with ballsy red - I'm in heaven.
Blue NY steak - drool,
proper rib roast, brown and crusty outside, bleedy inside - could eat it every day.
Leg of wild boar with herbs, slow cooked..... Venison in zillion ways...
[giving fridge a hard stare.... something in there is about to vanish]

NerdyFace · 08/12/2010 15:06

Right, have spoken to local butcher, who called friends in America!

Guess what I will be having delievered on Monday for my dinner?

"Lion Steak" Apparently they are farmed for meat in some parts of America!..Costing me £75 for 20 but i am looking forward too it!!

Mummy2Bookie · 08/12/2010 15:34

I love my meat. But I've never had very rare meat. The risk of food poisoning scares me.
Sunday roasts are the best. I could never be a vegetarian.

GMajor7SwansASwimming · 08/12/2010 15:46

Very interesting.

I've been (very strict) veggie for 20 years, but DP and DD are into meat and I love them both. It really is up to the individual and I make an effort not to preach.

But Rollmops - Foie Gras? Really? Yeurch!

AbsofLatkes · 08/12/2010 16:08

Best line in a TV show ever is from the Rebound Bro episode of How I Met, where Barney is teaching Randy (very losery guy, hasn't had sex in 13 years) how to pick up girls. Barney starts chatting up this girl with a koala pin and says "did you know that Randy here is Australia's foremost expert on koalas?" So she goes "oh really? Randy - what's your favourite thing about a koala bear?"
Randy "their meat is deliiiiiiiiiiiiicious".

GraceAwayInAManger · 08/12/2010 16:29

LION steak???! Wow! [super impressed emoticon]

Rollmops, your post made me very, very hungry ... I'm with you on the foie gras, I'm afraid, though financial constraints mean no geese are tortured on my behalf (for now, heh).

GMajor, thank you for not saying we all smell like corpses Wink

Koala meat ... Now there's a thought!!

Oh dear, I've started eyeing my cat in a new light.

I like meat, but it has to be incinerated. Blood makes me heave

GMajor7SwansASwimming · 08/12/2010 16:43

Hehe...I do often tell my moggie that we're only feeding him to fatten him up for the Christmas pot!

poshsinglemum · 08/12/2010 16:50

I don't think I want to try veal or fois gras. Normal beef is good enough for me.

Mummy2Bookie · 08/12/2010 16:52

Lion sounds really intereting, as does kangaroo

GraceAwayInAManger · 08/12/2010 16:59

Mummy2B, afaik you only risk food poisoning from meat-eating animals (and fish). You can eat beef & lamb raw, if you're inclined to. Hmm, and koala!

TinselinaBumSquash · 08/12/2010 17:01

at a succulent rare steak... mmmm cow...

I like the bumper stikcer

'save a Cow... eat a Vegitarian' Grin

I have a lovely Butcher who is very kind and lets me try his experiments... and by experiments i mean when he changes the Chicken feed or gets some Lamb from a different breed rather than anything freaky.

Malificence · 08/12/2010 17:01

Mmmmm, meat, I love barbeque ribs, tearing the meat off the bones with my teeth and them sucking them dry.

A chicken that is cooked and eaten within a day of slaughter is much more tasty than a week old supermarket bird. Wink

GraceAwayInAManger · 08/12/2010 17:09

I had kangaroo at a local pub - I think there's a kangaroo farmer somewhere round here. Wonder what he's doing in this weather? They'd need a very big shed!

I hope you'll report back on the lion steaks, NF.

GraceAwayInAManger · 08/12/2010 17:11

Cheers for the reminder about ribs, Mal. That's on tomorrow's menu Xmas Smile

Rollmops · 08/12/2010 17:16

Chickens... Steak Tartare is raw minced steak - the best quality you could find, naturally, with capers, onion, raw egg and anchovies - yummmmmmm....Grin
So is beef carpaccio, looove it.
YOu haven't lived if you haven't tried gorged with alarming regularity on pan fried foie gras with grilled mango and balsamic reduce with a good Sauternes...[droooool]
