yes, I know he was a pop 'star'. And he's dead clever. But then the same applies to Brian May, and he's not all over the BBC like norovirus

'we're not allowed to lust after him as otherwise his wife comes on and berates us, and then writes about it in Red and the Grauniad'

....what, reeeeeally??

I thought that was Jon Ronson's wife. Or something.

(I luuuuuuurve him. And her.

just in case she's about)

Oh I lurve Dr Cox and his big smile and happy face and I lurve his wife too - she wrote something ace in the Guardian re the trials of suddenly becoming a cleb wife. I don't think we got a look in, did we? But she sounded like she would make/is a top MNer.

Anyway, Brian is lovely and sweet and smiley and clever. Leave the doctor alone.

Hassledge · 06/12/2010 20:43

celeb wife. Not a cleb wife. I don't know what a cleb wife is but it sounds neanderthal.

nevergoogle · 06/12/2010 20:46

nah, gives me the creeps too.

and i went right off tv geologist iain stewart when he didn't chose my mosaic to win a competition. wtf does he know! iain stewart for example...

SpringHeeledJack · 06/12/2010 21:05

I think I'm a bit of a cleb wife

DilysPrice · 06/12/2010 21:28

I think he's good. There was a point when I got a bit grumpy because he was on so much telly that I thought he could no longer claim to be a working physicist, but then DH pointed out that because the LHC was bust he didn't have any data to analyse, so was entitled to fill his time with fannying around on the telly.
I bought his picture book cut price in Sainsburys for DS for Christmas, it will be much appreciated (DS could not care less about the loveliness of PBC, but will like the pictures of planets).

twirlymum · 06/12/2010 21:29

What? What? I went on popbitch, couldn't find anything except a picture of him smiling (naturally)

SpringHeeledJack · 06/12/2010 21:36

I couldn't find it either

bet it's one of those nameless celeb things

mind you I did hear the clip off the Today programme, where Jim Naughtie refers to Jeremy Cunt, so it was worth the wander in Grin

It was a chat at the end of August- now wiped. We were discussing the Guardian article by Gia Milinovich- Prof Cox's wife- in quite withering tones, it must be said- and then someone v. American sounding called Geekmom1973 (or similar) came on and started defending the Guardian article and dropping huge hints that she was in fact the author. It was never definite but a number of us were totally convinced- plus of course, she would be an ace MNetter!

Waves in case she is on this thread.

WilfShelf · 06/12/2010 23:27

I thought the RTS lecture [content] was v good.

Though thought delivery was shocking. Clearly NOT used to delivering lectures [harrumph]

ClimberChick · 07/12/2010 02:19

I thought he was a professor plus at uni lectures don't have to be delivered well.

I keep meaning to ask my astronomy friends how they view him. He is a bit smug, but I'm just jealous that I'm a physicist and don't get paid what he does.

Rollmops · 07/12/2010 07:06

Can not stand him. There's something about the way he speaks that makes me run for the hills. Many of the programmes he 'stars' in i'd love to watch - sound off and with subtitles though.
I do appreciate his achievements in science just not his manner of presentation.

WilfShelf · 08/12/2010 20:43

'at uni lectures don't have to be delivered well...'?

At mine they bloody well do and even more so when the kids are paying 9k a year!

He's just not that good looking. And there are plenty of brainy folk out there. Cannot see the appeal.
