yes, I know he was a pop 'star'. And he's dead clever. But then the same applies to Brian May, and he's not all over the BBC like norovirus

[meh]

OP posts:
lostinwales · 06/12/2010 18:10

But he's so lovely and passionate about science

JenaiMarrsTartanFoxCube · 06/12/2010 18:11

Meh. He's lovely.

I don't fancy him; rather I think he'd make an excellent uncle for ds. I mean as in my brother or bil - not as one in a long line of Mummy's Special Friends.

Meglet is correct - Brian May's hair is incompatible with presenting programmes about the Solar System.

Besides, prof Cox is a real scientist.

I put his being in D:Ream (or whatever they were called) to the back of my mind.

JenaiMarrsTartanFoxCube · 06/12/2010 18:12

Paisley - that RTS lecture was fabulous.

twirlymum · 06/12/2010 18:13

lost Tim Minchin and Brian Cox on the same programme?

Jenai Xmas Grin at 'Mummy's Special Friends'

SpringHeeledJack · 06/12/2010 18:14

'not as one in a long line of Mummy's Special Friends'

SpringHeeledJack · 06/12/2010 18:15

oooh I bloody loathe Stephen Fry

OP posts:
BendyBob · 06/12/2010 18:16

Blimey what's the poor bloke done to deserve this??? He's fantastic!

Ds is interested in stars as a hobby - BC makes it all so interesting and accessable. I am interested in BC as a hobby and wondering if he is accessable. Everyone's happySmile.

JenaiMarrsTartanFoxCube · 06/12/2010 18:16

twirly the Tim Minchin one isn't on iPlayer/Listen Again anymore (should be able to find it on YouTube though).

Here's tonight's though: Infinate Monkey Cage

SlowComfortableShrew · 06/12/2010 18:17

wtf? I think is a really nice bloke and has done amazing stuff raising public perceptions of science, and he's well fit too. YABVVVU

JenaiMarrsTartanFoxCube · 06/12/2010 18:20

Indeed, Slow

Such as here

MrManager · 06/12/2010 18:20

Brian Cox was all over the TV during the fox-hunting thing recently. And Brian Cox is big in the BBC because he has a radio show and presented a big budget series, he's not just some presenter like Adrian Chiles.

MrManager · 06/12/2010 18:20

First sentence should read Brian May, sorry.

JenaiMarrsTartanFoxCube · 06/12/2010 18:23

But we couldn't see the foxes, MrManager

Some are still lost in that enormous barnet. Still, at least they're safe from the hounds Xmas Grin

< I'd like to point out that I can indeed spell "infinite" >

MixedClassBaby · 06/12/2010 18:24

I'd give him one.

BabsH · 06/12/2010 18:49

He is quite lovely and I do remember him beinG a pop star in my teenage years, yum Xmas Grin

hugglymugly · 06/12/2010 18:54

Oh, put me down as a "no" as well. There's something about Brian Cox that's, well, a bit too smooth and beautiful, whereas I like my scientists to be weather-beaten and rugged, or bumbling and wearing jackets with leather elbow patches.

The only exception I make is for Iain Stewart (who is also a PROFESSOR) who, whilst not being particularly smooth or beautiful does give good presentation, probably because he was a child actor (not a lot of people know that - including me until I read his Wikipedia page). Also, he collaborated on the "Science of the Discworld" books, which makes him infinitely more attractive as far as I'm concerned.

Anyway, why has PROFESSOR Cox been all over the telly lately?

zisforzebra · 06/12/2010 18:57

YABU He's a total fox and makes the space programmes that DH insists on watching just a little more bearable.

cocojo · 06/12/2010 19:08

It's all a bit creepy, like fancying one of your teachers who's trying too hard to be 'down with the kids'. I prefer my scientists old and nerdy like they're supposed to be.

fiveisanawfullybignumber · 06/12/2010 19:11

Oh dear, where's notanotter, she might take umbridge at this thread!Grin
I think he makes science a bit more interesting and watchable, better than the wizzard like proffesors of 1970's open university programs.

SpringHeeledJack · 06/12/2010 19:21

I have reported myself to mn for calling him a doctor in thread title

I'm not very good at AIBU. Bit wet, I fear.

If I was really hard core, I would've called him Mr

OP posts:
domesticslattern · 06/12/2010 20:22

I went to see him lecture once. He did the whole thing without notes and was a fantastic speaker- really erudite and enthusiastic. Supremely talented bloke. And there is that bit in one of his DVDs where he is wearing a wetsuit.

Anyway, we're not allowed to lust after him as otherwise his wife comes on and berates us, and then writes about it in Red and the Grauniad.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 06/12/2010 20:27

nom nom nom

oh clever bloke too

EdgarAllenSnow · 06/12/2010 20:32

he's a bit skinny for my taste. but fat on science.

i was annoyed that he felt the need to diss philosophy in tonights infinite monkey cage.
