What is this 'boycott the bear emoticon' facebook movement?

It seems there is a massive objection to the use of the 'bear emoticon'.

Using it is proof that you are a chav, a DM reader, a false benefits claimant and an invader from netmums.

So fellow mumsnetters - don't do it or you will get ripped to pieces on the boards and behind your back.

Trop - I know you were :) Unfortunately I think you need to start funny threads a little earlier in the evening - only the drunks and mavericks are around at this time of night Grin

Just swaying along to Mick Hucknell.... if you don't know me by now..... you will never never never never never know me....

ChippingIn · 05/12/2010 00:38

MNHQ I am still waiting for my eye-rolling emoticon which I have been asking for since Adam was a boy!

scottishmummy · 05/12/2010 00:38

i would chose a haud yer wheesht smilie

SlightlyJaded · 05/12/2010 00:42

'Sweary' not 'Sweaty' - though in retrospect..

And had I known the bear would be used as a display of affection, I would never have colluded. i would trade it for a cats bum gladly.

But still, it's something to squabble over when there's fuck all else going on Grin

blackeyedsusan · 05/12/2010 00:47

trop, asking people to not do something at this time of night is asking for trouble [ bear ] especially when I am feeling such a grumpy sod tonight. It has been one of those years I am afraid and this is the last weekend of calm before the big onslaught of visiting pils 2 weekends in a row.

I vote for cats bums mouth too. would love to see that.

Trop · 05/12/2010 00:48

There is definite scope for a 'haud yer wheesht' emoticon but it needs translation into english...

Think what you are saying..?
Have you engaged brain before opeing mouth..?
It is better to be silent and be thought dumb that to speak and remove all doubt..?

The Scottish version is just so much more succinct!

Cats bum and eye-rolling would also be useful.

[fbear]

ZacharyQuack · 05/12/2010 01:20

I'm afraid you'll just have to Grin and Bear it.

MrsYam · 05/12/2010 11:26

Haven't had the chance to try do a [fbear] yet and this seems just the post to test it. [fbear]

cakewench · 05/12/2010 12:15

aw Trop I'm sorry you felt my response was not mature.

I just happen to like the bear, especially the santa bear. And there's been more than one bear-complainy topic posted to this forum, so by this point I'm just posting [fbear] in any that I see pop up.

FWIW I think there's no chance of this becoming like the other site, as long as we're not allowed to create our own signatures. I can not stand having to scroll past a page and a half of tickers and photographs just to view the next post. It's fine if you want that sort of thing in your profile Xmas Hmm but it makes reading threads a chore. Especially when half the responses from those people consist of a single 'LOL' or something.

alright I'm done.

AitchTwoOh · 05/12/2010 12:18

lol poor trop, she was just mucking around. Grin

SoupDragon · 05/12/2010 12:20

I don't like the bear much so i don't use it. [shrug]

I am still waiting for my [bah humbug] though. I even have my own artwork.

purepurple · 05/12/2010 12:21

lol

cakewench · 05/12/2010 12:21

Xmas Grin Well I did assume so from the original post.

Yay!

pointythings · 05/12/2010 22:20

I love the bear. With [fbear] festive hat or without Bear.
Think it definitely stands for bonkers, and we need more bonking .

Off to bed now, Monday awaits.

Trop · 06/12/2010 19:21

Hmm, perhaps if the code was [bonkers] instead of Bear it wouldn't get used in the xxhunningxx manner?

I could cope with that compromise.

OP posts:
Trop · 06/12/2010 19:22

oh god! I've just been fooled into using the bear!!!!

I swore I would never. Angry
