to be annoyed at teacher for shattering an illusion

im just very annoyed that dds teacher would not let this go and she has pissed me off.

I tell dd 4.7 im 21 of course im not and this is obviouse. but her teacher told her I wasnt and thats something mummys say to make them feel better. Shock

through out last week dd has made a big issue over this. untill this morning I had to confess my real age to her as she says her teacher keeps telling her im not 21.

now that has ruinned my little joke and shattered my dds illusions.

Didn't actually get the chance to say anything, Annie, DD was straight in there! Grin

Have actually never lied about my age, this is why DD was able to jump in and correct head!

Have never understood why it would be an issue.

My problem has always been people thinking I am a lot older than I actually am - especially at work.

I remember one bloke who once worked for me asking me in conversation if I remembered what I was doing when Kennedy was shot (!).

I replied I was doing nothing as I hadn't actually been born. He looked closely at me and said in a horrified voice "really???!!!"

I sacked him on the spot, of course! Grin

StealthPolarBear · 30/11/2010 11:43

Did exactly the same as Porcelain and burst into tears when I found out my mum was 34 and not 26 (or whatever :o)

GrimmaTheNome · 30/11/2010 11:46

DDs friends on the bus think I'm 40, and doubt her word when she tells them otherwise.

I'm nearly 50 Grin and don't care who knows it!

PinkElephantsOnParade · 30/11/2010 11:51

I must just have had a hard life Grimma! Grin

droves · 30/11/2010 11:56

my mother kept doing this ...shed say she was 5 years younger than she actually was . One day i pointed it out , that if that actually was the case then she would have been 12 when she got married and 13 when she had big sis.

She started telling people we were younger too !

This carried on until someone said she must be ill because she looked so old.

big sis and i were crying with laughter .

Grin
PinkElephantsOnParade · 30/11/2010 12:07

droves - that is seriously loopy!

I am just glad if people think I am not more than 10 years older than my actual age! Sad

[sad old wrinkly emoticon]

tomhardyismydh · 30/11/2010 12:11

droves im not that loopy. Grin

Bizarre. I don't see why a 4yo would mind how old you are. They're not going to think that being 21 is 'better' than being 31, 41 or 51.

whiteliesaregoodlies · 30/11/2010 12:59

Not quite the same subject, but a 41 year old friend of mine lied to a new boyfriend that she was 35 because at 28 he was younger than her. All was fine until their first holiday when he saw her passport .... and confessed that he'd been lying too and was actually 23, not 28. Absolutely a true story - they make a lovely couple though!

kickassangel · 30/11/2010 13:34

when my gran was 45 she had 'surprise' twins. at the time, my mum was 19. a few years later, my mum went to pick her sisters up from school, and discovered that my gran had 'forgotten' to mention that she had 2 much older kids, and had let everyone assume that the twins were her first & only children, cos she thought that made her look younger.

my mum was not impressed, specially as she helped to bring up the twins. by that stage my mum was married with her own dd, and my gran had somehow managed to 'forget' that she was a grandmother as well.

she was quite vain, my gran.

piprabbit · 30/11/2010 13:42

4year olds have almost no concept of age.
When I was 18 I went in to help in my Mum's foundation class. She introduced me as her own little girl and asked them (why???) how old they thought I was. 71 Shock apparently Grin.

Kaloki · 30/11/2010 13:43

Why would you tell your child you are 21 when you aren't? Confused

Fernie3 · 30/11/2010 13:46

dont worry my daughter used to tell her teacher I was 50 and the teacher apparently never corrected her which is worrying for me as I am 27.

I work in a secondary school and I love it when the kids guess how old I am (only when they ask me - I'm not obsessive) because they genuinely think 31/28/34 are really old.

MackerelOfFact · 30/11/2010 14:50

My mum always used to tell me she was 21, as did my grandma. For a while I assumed this was correct, as they were both the same height and therefore the same age. Then I found out that my grandma was actually my mum's mum, and at this point I knew this wasn't right as my grandma would have to be at least 22. Grin

Not implausible for a 4-year-old to have a 21-year-old mum though. How old are you then, OP?

emptyshell · 30/11/2010 14:59

4 year olds have a hilarious concept of age - they regularly guess I'm 25 - I like this habit! Hilarious watching them guessing the age of teachers, you can see them mentally calculating the wrinkles relative to their parents and trying to work it out from there.

I got asked the other day if I remembered World War 2... was by a year 8 child! Wasn't happy at that one! Subsequently horrified and traumatised said child by telling him that when I was a kid there were only 4 channels on the telly and they switched off at night (I can just about remember channel 4 starting but I wasn't going to complicate matters there) - cheeky bugger then asked me if it was still in black and white back then!

tomhardyismydh · 30/11/2010 16:31

ha ha emptyshell.

im not sure why so many people think im utterly loopy for telling my dd im 21 Grin.

does no one else make up any illusions or fantasys and share with dc's? my mum did all the time and it was so much fun to find out she was blatently making these things up and she ran with most of them for years.

I actually belived probably untill i was in my 20s my mum was a belly dancer in a club before she had us dcs and had to porn her belly button jewel to pay for nappies.

Tell your DD to reply 'she is if you're counting in in hexa-decimal' That should shut her up!

emptyshell · 30/11/2010 16:51

I'm going to do what my mother did - get to 40, count backwards for a bit and then bounce around the mid-30s till I need to claim my pension!

hocuspontas · 30/11/2010 16:55

Why didn't you just say to dd that the teacher was right - you're actually 22. Grin

mackerel - same here. My nan told me she was 21 and my mum was 22. I thought that was correct as my mum as taller than my nan!
