I'm totally fed up of people moaning about feeling ill with colds. Thats life. Get on with it. (not directed at any mn'ers, just folk in general)

What makes you lot feel like this?

AIBU?

All of my (almost exclusively) male colleagues have man flu ATM. They are all struggling manfully on (and all seem to need to tell me this). I too have a cold with a chest infection hovering on the horizon. They are all working for me (in effect) for the day later this week. I am going to buy a large pack of Lemsip, dole them out to everyone, and tell them I don't want to hear any more about how ill they are for the rest of the day.

(well, probably not, but I am severely tempted..)

AliceandtheGinormousBaps · 30/11/2010 09:48

Glad to see you back psycho Smile

It is not people being ill that annoys me, it is the ones that are always ill, but not colds, or bugs. It is all Flu this, Gastric Flu that, Flu virus etc, over a sniffle.
I had 2weeks of a bad cold and blockd sinuses, follwed by a 24hr gastric flu bug which literally left me half unconcious in bed. There is no way i could call a sniffle 'flu, especially after that!

I hate the people who complain about their child getting up at 5am to you when you have been up throughout the night with a 3month old, then getting up eary with your toddler Wink

rebl · 30/11/2010 09:53

I don't mind someone having a quick whinge but when they tell me and then 2 mins later feel the need to tell me again and then 2 mins later feel the need to tell me again, thats when I think FFS get on with it!

GypsyMoth · 30/11/2010 10:04

Fanjo....yeah iPhone predictive text, easy to tell really.

psychomum5 · 30/11/2010 10:13

glad to be back alice, thankyou:)

stealth, I dare you, would love to hear their reaction :o

FanjoForTheMincePies · 30/11/2010 10:19

ILoveTIFFANY - I know, I have an iPad, drives me mad! Grin

40deniertights · 30/11/2010 10:21

I think you say it once and then leave it. However some people's colds are worse than others. Some have a sniffle, whereas others are dizzy, achy, raw throat etc. Very different.

stealthsquiggle · 30/11/2010 10:26

Psycho - if I could work out how to put it through on expenses, it would be done!

psychomum5 · 30/11/2010 10:29

HmmGrin

FindingMyMojo · 30/11/2010 10:39

DP is moaning about the weather - he really slumps in winter and I just want to say to him "FFS YOU ARE ENGLISH & LIVE IN LONDON - YOU NEED TO LEARN TO CARRY YOUR WEATHER ON THE INSIDE. STOP FCUKING MOANING ABOUT IT & USING IT AS AN EXCUSE TO COP OUT OF STUFF."

Ah - sorry not shouting in real life but I do feel a little better now Grin

Niecie · 30/11/2010 10:48

YANBU

That said those people who moan in RL do at least provide the rest of us some warning to stay away from them so we don't catch it! But agree once is enough.

I try not to moan (except to DH, poor man) because I hate people feeling sorry for me. I had pnemonia in May and kept quiet.

BadPoet · 30/11/2010 11:05

YANBU. There's one local mum in particular who is going on and on and ON about her 'cold virus' at the moment, including the exact medication she's taking, details of the ingredients of her hot toddy etc, and i am getting this face to face and via FB. It's as if no-one else gets colds. She's like that about everything though.

She's so going to be the old lady who tells you all the gruesome details of all her ailments. At weddings.

MmeLindt · 30/11/2010 12:05

Oh, sorry.

WhyIsThatThen · 30/11/2010 12:10

Ahhh, Mme. You are going wrong. You need to be sipping warm Vimto. Cures all ills.
I wonder if it cures moans too?

OP posts:
stealthsquiggle · 30/11/2010 12:17

[bleugh] to warm vimto.

What cures being cold - right through to the middle (and down to the toes)? I can't face turning the heating up (we're going through oil scarily fast already), and nice log man has yet to deliver promised logs so I daren't light fires with the last of the logs when there is only me in the house...

MmeLindt · 30/11/2010 12:19

Stealth
Can you go to bed? Lots of blankets.

Or do the ironing, that always warms me up.

Warm Vimto sounds disgusting. Cannot buy it here anyway.

Actually, the warm Ribena has helped.

stealthsquiggle · 30/11/2010 12:25

I am working, MmeL (paid as opposed to ironing-type work).

However, the next 2 hours of conference calls may well be done from the shelter of a duvet. Log man also just called to say he is on his way, so I may have to light the fires so that the house is nice and warm for me DC when they come home.

NinkyNonker · 30/11/2010 12:30

My 4 month old DD has her second cold (dh is a teacher, pupils never stay off when ill!) and it is miserable,so I'm moaning on her behalf!

WhyIsThatThen · 30/11/2010 15:06

Warm Vimto is disgusting. Would give the moaner something else to moan about though Grin

When I'm very cold the only thing that warms me is a nice hot bath. Then quickly dry and into bed with either a hot man (DH) or an hot water bottle. Or both, if feeling very cold/greedy!

OP posts:
emptyshell · 30/11/2010 15:10

I usually DO just get on with it - but this thing lovingly given to me by my husband (who made such a meal out of having it that I was checking his life insurance was up to date) has absolutely hammered me into the ground - not often that something hits me so hard that a couple of Lemsips doesn't mean I can go on, but my asthma's flares up, I can't breathe, I've had 2 hours sleep the last three nights because of my nose constantly streaming (couldn't even sleep with tissue shoved up it to stop the drip) and it's vile vile vile. At one point we had both of us in bed, fully clothed, dressing gown and four duvets on the bed, fighting over the cat as a hot water bottle and still shivering!

I did just go to put the heating on and find two bars of Cadbury's Caramel hubby's hidden in the boiler cupboard though so score!

emptyshell · 30/11/2010 15:11

Oh and the kettle's been moved to the house we're doing up so walking three doors down the street is required to make a lemsip!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 30/11/2010 15:16

I have a cold, I feel like my head is stuffed with cotton wool, and I'm 13 weeks pg which limits my options medication wise.

And yes I am getting on with it!!

So yep I think YANBU - getting a col is just one of those things that you just have to put up with!

CardyMow · 30/11/2010 15:24

OK I have a stinking cold, and am moaning today. In fact I have come on MN purely to moan! I am 33 weeks pregnant, and have to see doc tomorrow morning, the MW want me on broad spectrum AB's because of how bad my pneumonia was in Feb, think they are going to chuck me in hospital because I can't take broad spectrum AB's due to severe allergy (anaphylaxis) and the only thing they can bluddy give me is contra-indicated in pregnancy. So I'm moany and full of it my chest hurts and I feel like I did 2 days before I went to hospital with pneumonia before. I don't care if people don't like me moaning baout it, I'm still going to moan!

MmeLindt · 30/11/2010 15:39

oh, Loudlass, that sounds horrible. Hope they manage to sort you out.

My friend has pneumonia a couple of years ago and it was terrible.

WhyIsThatThen · 30/11/2010 16:06

Get better soon Loudlass Smile
