To think that the middle classes have an unhealthy obsession with fruit?

DS1 won't eat so much as a grape. So many other parents (and schools) seem to be obsessed with getting their children to eat fruit. AFAIR we ate biscuits as children, as a rule, and not raisins.

BTW the acid in fruit rots a childers teeth faster than you can say 'coke'

Ummm, don't think it's just the middle classes Hmm I'm working class and give my kids fruit instead of sweets

Ormirian · 26/11/2010 14:27

I am a bit meh about fruit. I eat it regularly because it's 'good for me' and sometimes it's really nice but more often than not I find it boring. DC eat it by the bucketful.

I love veg and salad though.

wintersnow is right.......

Bonsoir · 26/11/2010 20:38

Oh definitely agree with the OP. I used to eat masses of fruit (there was a "10 a day" campaign in France a few years ago) as I thought I was doing myself good.

I didn't feel well for quite a long while and eventually ended up in the consulting room of a homeopathic GP. She felt my tummy (prodded and poked) and asked me whether I ate a lot of fruit, to which I proudly said oui. And she told me to stop and not eat more than two pieces of fruit per day as my gut was terribly irritated and sore because of all the fruit I ate.

I have never looked back! Two a day max here and I am so much healthier!

wintersnow may well be right that all classes have an unhealthy obsession with fruit, but that was not really the issue. No need for the Hmm. You should be Blush MC or WC that you are obsessed with fruit.

And am [very proud emoticon] that Bonsoir agrees with me Grin

Wintersnow is right in that i give my children fruit/veg every day.
They do NOT have biscuits/sweets/fizzy drinks every day.
It's not just a middle class thing to feed your children healthy/good food.

thats not the point though MD

They loose thier kiddie teeth anyway - so I don't worry about suger in fruit. Persoanlly I don't understand the unhealthy obsession with junk food and eating rubbish.

FunnysInTheGarden · 26/11/2010 23:50

In my neck of the woods there is no obsession with junk food. I must live in the fruit eating part of the woods.

And 'they loose their kiddie teeth anyway' am Shock at that statement.

So,what is the point of the OP?
The middle classes don't have an unhealthy obsession with fruit???
Or do they?

surfandturf · 27/11/2010 08:36

My mum used to give us fresh grapefruit with LOADS of sugar on it to diguise the awful taste! Confused

SkyBluePearl - Noooooo the baby teeth form the shape of the mouth so that when the big teeth drop down they have a tight but neat space to go into. No baby teeth could mean a crowded mouth, very expensive and not readily available on the NHS to fix, also creates food traps for the older teeth meaning they are more likely to decay, the rotting baby teeth are painful for the child, and a general anesthetic to whip them out is always a risk, children will not let you inject their mouths.
All in all baby teeth are extremely important for speech development, for ensuring the mouth is positioned correctly and you start as you mean to go on, if mummy does care about baby teeth do you think the child magically thinks i know these adult teeth have last me 50 years or do they continue with their bad habits ?
