Kitted 3 kids out with full brand new school uniforms this Sep.

For the main everyday uniform followed it to the letter buying all the jumpers with school emblem on, correct colour trousers, skirts, shirts, trousers, shoes and ties.

Bought all the correct PE T-Shirts (and rugby shirts) with school emblem on.

Bought DS1 "correct" school navy shorts for PE and plain navy blue socks and navy blue trakkie bottoms both of which are not from the uniform shop apparently are not allowed.

DS1 has been told if he does not have the correct gear by next week he will get a detention and was made to do PE in his shorts and t-shirt today outside Angry

AIBU to feel pissed off he was made to do it in the freezing cold in a t-shirt and shorts when its 0 degrees here today and pissed off that what I have provided is only PE kit and is the same as the school stuff just half the price.

Where do I stand here and AIBU?

The secondary school my ds goes to does not allow tracksuit bottoms. Mind you he is slightly mad and prefers to wear shorts, so not really a problem for him.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 25/11/2010 20:08

PE teachers are sadistic bastards at the best of times IME.

pointythings · 25/11/2010 20:09

Bebumba,

If my girls' school refused to let them wear tracksuit bottoms in this weather, I'd refuse to let them do outdoor PE. Cold muscles can causer serious injuries, end of story.

A1980 · 25/11/2010 21:03

We didn't have a winter weight PE kit when I was at secondary school for a bit in the 1990's. We had to di it in this weather in a black netball skirt and a think white polo shirt while the teacher was in a tracksuit and thick jacket.

I survived but it was ridiculous and i was blue with cold.

Typical of your average PE teacher to instill a life long hatred of sport from an early age.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 25/11/2010 21:22

Yes, what does it say?

OP, I too am intrigued to know what the reply said.

I would be really cross in your situation, especially if my child had been forced to do PE in shorts and t-shirt in 3 degree blizzards, when they had a perfectly suitable, warm kit in their bag.

At the schools my 2 eldest go to, they only stipulate colours for PE kit. You can buy the official items with the schools logos on but the schools make it perfectly clear that you don't have to.

I seem to remember having to play hockey in weather like this with a very short sports skirt and t-shirt.

(While the PE teachers had nice warm tracksuits on).

Loshad · 25/11/2010 21:45

except if you are doing PE you are moving around and generating heat - picked DS3 uo from rugby training tonight at 5.30 pm and he, like virtually every other child was in his shorts - they all have tracksuits in their bags!

LaurieFairyonthetreeEatsCake · 25/11/2010 21:45

I don't give a rats ass about the 'correct uniform' but dd's secondary school is having them do all sport outside in shorts and t-shirt.

They don't have a tracksuit - they run around at hockey, they run at cross country - they stay warm.

It's really not doing them any harm. Dh and his running club/football club wear shorts and t-shirt, people who actually do sport are NOT wearing tracksuits.

Acanthus · 25/11/2010 21:47

I send DS1 with underarmour for under his rugby shirt but still only shorts on the bottom half!

TheCrackFox · 25/11/2010 21:48

I grew up in the highlands and I remember having to play hockey in below freezing temperatures with sleet whilst the PE "teacher" wore a duffle coat, scarf and gloves. I have hated sport ever since.

It's character-building. Or something.

Oh no, wait, it's sadism.

Acanthus · 25/11/2010 21:54

Stewie - I think we just have too many different kind of weather here, it confuses us. That's why we talk about it all the time, I always think.

LaurieFairyonthetreeEatsCake · 25/11/2010 21:55

It's not friggin sadism Hmm

If I decided to go for a run right now with dh I'd put shorts on.

Even with my slow metabolism, dodgy knees, ageing body and 2 glasses of wine.

You don't get cold if you're running about.

You do get cold if you're one of the 'cool' kids who wants to dodge cross country and have a fag. Grin

DiscoDaisy · 25/11/2010 21:56

Depends on the child. 2 of mine hate running around outside this time of year. 3 of them would love to spend all day outside running around in t shirts and shorts
