To think that not many people are going to vote Lib Dem again?

I'm wondering just how much damage the Lib Dems are doing themselves in being part of the coalition.

DH voted Lib Dem but them going back on their University fees pledge has just been the final straw for him and I suspect its the same for many others who voted Lib Dem.

If you voted Lib Dem would you do it again?

Once this coalition comes to an end where will the libdems be left? Falling off the end of the opnion polls I suspect

They're done. Clegg himself will be lucky to keep his seat at the next election!

It's back to a two horse show I think. They sold their electorate out. I don't see the young electorate ever voting for them either unless at least the tuition fees debacle is reversed. They are dooooooomed!

I have voted for them for most of my life.
Won't be doing it again, not unless the party radically changes, especially the leadership. They need a leader who doesn't merrily abandon all principles and integrity at the first little taste of 'power'.

Voters have short memories and there are 4+ years to go.

The success of the cuts will be what counts. If it goes badly, they're both out. Goes well, maybe they'll both get back in, but possibly only the Tories.

The only reason LD are in at all is Nick Cleggs performance in the televised debates. And to perform well he had to promise the world on a plate...

I hate the tories but I have more respect for them than the Lib Dems who basically sold out for 5 minutes of power!

I think they may well have destroyed their party.

They're pinning their hopes on electoral reform but I suspect they're not going to get it.

The only thing that will save them, is a massive revolt, which may happen - 4 years is a long time.

I don't think the Tory policies that are unfolding are a surprise or a disappointment for Tory voters - they got what they voted for - however if I had voted LibDem I would be shocked and appalled that they have betrayed most of their voters for a bit of power.

I know they need to work together with the Tories, but most importantly they have a mandate given to them by the people who voted them in, and in my view they are breaking a contract by backtracking on most of what they were voted in for.

And Nick Clegg never has a valid explanation, just keeps apologising. I wish he had the balls to actually make a valid argument for his turnarounds. He really is an embarassment to watch - so glad I didn't vote for him.

YANBU - I also had some hopes for the lib dems improving the coalition and the worst of the tory policies. Seems that we were sold a line...

The only way I could see any students/the young electorate voting for them again is if there is a change in leadership and a massive lib dem rebellion in the commons for the tuition fee vote. If that vote goes through then most teens/students are just going to see them as the party which sold them out and they will not vote for them again.
Most people understand the need to compromise in a coalition government, however rolling over and playing dead for the one issue that got you the majority of your votes is not a good plan if you ever want a chance of being re-elected!

The only silver lining for me is that I won't have such a dilemma next time. (I won't make that mistake again).

I voted LibDem, based on what they said in their manifesto. I won't be voting for them again, though I feel a little sorry for the grass roots MPs, who still believe in what they said in the manifesto but have been sold out by the leadership.

YANBU to think that because that's probably how it'll play out.

However - I think its a shame if people do take this attitude. I'd rather have 3 parties with coalitions and compromises than the old two party domination.

IMO it was stupid of them to make that pledge in the first place - if they had any clue about the depth of the financial hole. It was the sort of idealistic stance you only take when you don't believe you've got a cat's chance of actually enacting it.

I've always voted lib dem but just can't imagine doing it again. I feel completly betrayed by their sudden collapse of scruples in the face of power. As already said unless there is a major rebellion and change of direction from the back benches I'll have to vote for someone else next elections. Don't know who though!

Have voted Lib Dem in the past and considered doing so last May. Am so glad I did not and never will again. My BIL and MIL did vote for them and are horrified by what they helped create. Even for politicians the tuition fee thing is pretty low!
