I think she's had a lot of coaching since BGT as technically it's very good now. Personally her style of music doesn't do a lot for me and although her voice is pleasant enough it doesn't bowl me over. She obviously appeals to a lot of people, because they wouldn't be buying her CDs in such quantities completely on sympathy/novelty grounds.

Susan Boyle isn't actually the grotesque beast she's made out to be.

In fact, within her age group she looks like the average woman in middle age.

Honestly, the towns & cities of Britain are teeming with short, dumpy frizzy-haired women.
& imo if they want to look like that then who cares?

I think the point is actually the other way round. Many of the current contestants on X factor are only through as far as they are because they are young and pretty. Many of them SING FLAT

She has a good voice. We are the same age.I have a good voice too. I'm not showing off to say she's no better BUT good luck to her. The real problem is women who whinge and do nothing. They never succeed at anything because they never try. The answer is to keep trying at things and don't be jealous of others thing how lovely they did well so so could I.

A bit of a pointless question really. All artists sell because of the package they represent.

Kylie- cute, girl-next-door, pert bum.
Prince- small, bonkers, purple.
Lady Gaga- bonkers, unusual clothes
Pavarotti- fat, charming
Susan Boyle- vulnerable, relatable, rags-to-riches.

None of these artists are/were "just" a voice. That's why people like Treyc, who can sing but don't have a brand, get kicked off x factor.

They all need a USP and being young and sexy doesn't have to be it.

I think you should take a minute to think how awful it is to call someone fat and ugly like this, can you imagine how she would feel if she saw your post?
