this

I bought it to get married in. probably loads of you will be Shock at wearing such a thing for getting married in, but its only going to be a very small wedding, just me, DH to be, our kids and parents in a registry office. and I just wanted something pretty but not too dressy, was going to wear it with black opaques and black heels. I also can't afford to spend too much money on an outfit.

but I look like a sack of spuds. and i am DEPRESSED.

and DP bought his suit last week and looks jaw droppingly, staggeringly gorgeous in it. Blush and I don't want to look shit next to him :(

There's a really nice cream dress in River Island just now, slightly 60's looking, fine pleats all over and it ties with a black sash at the waist. Cher wore it on X Factor on Saturday - which I appreciate may not sell it to you - but I've seen it in RL and it's lovely. Can't get a damm link though!

superv1xen · 23/11/2010 16:57

sounds nice, i will have a look at their website 2blessed

It doesn't look like a flattering dress.

Why don;t you do the old-fashioned thing and try a dress on before you buy it Wink

MarniesMummy · 23/11/2010 17:02

Reality, oh my word... your wedding dress is just stunning!!

I keep looking for wedding dresses as I'm hoping for a proposal. DP and I have been together almost 14 years and have 3DC's so I don't want to spend loads. Any others you thought about ant then rejected? I think we may well have similar taste,Smile.

Bunnyjo · 23/11/2010 17:23

Asos have a some lovely dresses and are usually fab with delivery and returns. What about this one or, if you fancy something longer and don't mind having to get it hemmed for your height, this one?

I agree with Eric, pair your dress up with natural tights and some lovely neutral coloured heels - will look far more elegant. Congratulations by the way

natandchris10 · 23/11/2010 19:03

Just my two pence worth on the original so called body con frock.

You say "yeah i am short height wise, five foot 2, and i have a short body (so i guess, = short waist) although my legs are strangely long. i also have toned arms "

Take a look at the seam where the sleeve meets the dress. It is deep enough for someone with oddly wide upper arms. The armpit bit comes down well below where your bra would sit. It's just strange.

You're trying to fit a nice bod into a dress designed for a weird bod.

onceamai · 23/11/2010 19:18

Until I saw the dress I didn't think a size 8 could look fat. It's not a flattering shape or length or neck although I can see why you chose it because it sort of says really stylish. Have you thought about hiring?

superv1xen · 23/11/2010 20:25

i think the dress would look beautiful on a really thin, flat chested teenager....but sadly i am none of these things. :(

well i have found a few possibles on this thread, but really i also need to go actual shopping and trying stuff on, but the problem is, i hate shopping, and i hate even more trying stuff on as it just depresses me! i hate looking in the changing room mirrors, i dont mind the ones at home somehow!

I remember shopping for wedding dresses and I hated every faffing second of it. Trying them on breathing in taking them off. In the end I fell in love with the most amazing dress. Then got a smack to reality when I saw the price tag. Gutted was not the word. Even on eBay they were expensive, and after googling no end I found someone who could make dresses on the cheap(cheaper anyway) if I could describe what I wanted.

I told her the exact dress, but for legal reasons she couldnt do it as that, but could get it almost alike, and to be honest I couldnt tell the difference.

It is coming out of the attic at the same time as the christmas tree to go on eBay as I have finally decided to let go. Not only that but I have gone from an 8 to a 12 since my big day, so I can't even wear it for fun!

Hope you find the right one, when is the big day?

superv1xen · 24/11/2010 08:11

awwww thats a lovely story mumcani i bet it was lovely.

big day is 5th feb :)

Try styleshake.co.uk - you choose your style, material and colour and pick the made-to-measure option if you're not a standard off-the-shelf shape. Have had some brilliant fitted dresses for work from there (I'm v. short in the body with small waist and big boobs). They're cut by computer, sewn in the uk and delivered very quickly.

taintedpaint · 24/11/2010 10:19

You definitely can wear a white bodycon dress with black opaques, but the cut of that dress would not look good on anyone I don't think, which is a shame because it looks very pretty and your figure sounds amazing! This ASOS/Warehouse one might be a little too undressy, but I think it's cute, this is also gorgeous, but more vintage style and perhaps a bit short. Options though, hey?

Congratulations on the wedding!

superv1xen · 24/11/2010 11:08

they are both lovely tainted although the warehouse one doesnt have my size :(

taintedpaint · 24/11/2010 11:13

Oh :( that's a shame, that was my favourite. Make sure you do come back and let us know what you choose!

nickeldonkeyonadustyroad · 24/11/2010 11:28

I think if you go shopping with a friend, and plan to have lunch together (after trying on the dresses, you'll feel better!), it won't be as bad as you think.

Go to a shopping centre or department store, because then you know that you've got to get the dress in there, and that you won't be trailing round town for days.

If you've got any independents near you, you might find something really lovely without having to pay chain prices (and it'll be unusual) - in Cantebury, they've got loads of tiny boutiques with stunning stuff (not saying you live in Canterbury, just giving my nearest city as an example!)

you've got to look more gorgeous than your fiance! Grin

Have you thought of having a look on bravissimo? They do clothes as well as bras, and delivery is usually quick. They have shops too.

Someone I know picked a coffee-coloured one with lace over material for her mother of the groom dress.

Elmtree1Ems · 24/11/2010 19:25

Thing is it's got no shape to it. No-one is gonna look good in it, it will highlight ANY bumps you have no matter how thin you are, unless you have NONE at all, then you will just look like you are unhealthy.

Just because you are thin don't mean you can get away with anything shape wise, you need to go shopping for the day and omg I sound like Gok now, but find the right shape for your body. If you are short and have long legs then what about a high waisted pencil type dress? Push up bra, will make you look svelte and show off the killer pins.
