Effectively dealing with oggling

Ishtah · 20/11/2010 00:39

If you cannot control ur oggling so that your partner doesn't notice, then u r insensitive and not very clever.
Here's a world wide solution to it, started in Perth Australia, which gives the power BACK to all the pissed off women out there, whatever country they come from.

Every time another womans partner checks me out, ( by this I mean, in a way that makes me notice that he's looking at me), I walk right up to her and hand her a little business card which says;

"please let your partner know that he is disrespecting me and more importantly, yourself, by clearly checking out my body when it's clear that he is not single; he only makes himself look tragic and pathetic"

Without respect, trust cannot exist.

Can I tell u that once a guy receives afew of these, oggling takes on a whole new perspective.
You can also hand ur own guy a card which explains why u are walking away so that he can oggle in peace.
:)

why not hand a card to the bloke?

VERY PA to make it the woman's problem

ComingDownTheChimmley · 20/11/2010 00:45

And why would you hand your husband/partner a card explaining why you are walking away? Surely a chat would suffice, no?

Do they not speak in Perth?

[puzzled]

And if you MUST hand out cards please make sure that you spell 'ogle' correctly

tallwivglasses · 20/11/2010 00:52

Rather than arsing about with cards you should have a chat with him? Just a thought.

11111 · 20/11/2010 00:52

Oh dear, I suppose you never ever look at anyone else EVER! Does it really matter? I don't mind my husband looking - so what?

scurryfunge · 20/11/2010 00:53

Nasty thing to do to a partner. You should challenge him directly.

Quattrocento · 20/11/2010 00:55

It's ogling by the way. Just so that you know

And I am never ever going to hand a card to a woman in that way. You might persuade me to do that to a man - but never to a woman.

booyhoo · 20/11/2010 00:56

and do women not ogle as well?

VFemme · 20/11/2010 00:58

Why the hell should it be the partner's issue?

Tosh.

VFemme · 20/11/2010 00:59

Is she meant to meant to tackle him about it? Ffs.

earlymorningwaking · 20/11/2010 01:06

Therefore making it the woman's responsibility?

Non solution.

whethergirl · 20/11/2010 01:13

Well if this is going to be the latest trend then maybe I should have a few of my own cards handy to give back to these arrogant card giving out women: "How fucking dare you undermine my relationship, maybe my partner was looking at you thinking 'I bet no-one wants to shag her'. Get a life"

whethergirl · 20/11/2010 01:14

BTW since when do we start correcting spelling mistakes on here?!!!

ShanahansRevenge · 20/11/2010 01:20

lol at whethergirl! Good point that!

BitOfFun · 20/11/2010 01:45

Is this some kind of crappy facebook status?

cumfy · 20/11/2010 08:13

Yes, yes, yes.

Perhaps, we can all carry a portfolio of cards around which we can construct myriad conversations.

A sort of paper tweet. Hurrah.

What's that I hear in the distance ?

A far cough perhaps ?

redflag · 20/11/2010 08:24

How many time have you though "oooh card to her, her boyfriend has noticed me" And its turned out he has a lazy eye ha ha ha

Get over yourself darling, sound more like you are showing off that you managed to get someone to look at you. Hmm

SuePurblybiltByElves · 20/11/2010 08:28

I don't care how you spell it as long as you pronounce it O-gle not oggle. To rhyme whith Fogle, not toggle. Drives me insane Grin.

Off to google retro filofaxes for all these cards. I'll need some kind of filing system......

PatFig · 20/11/2010 08:49

some mners like to show how superior they are to others by correcting spelling mistakes.Though I have never seen this happen when the post is a sad one

saffy85 · 20/11/2010 09:03

Awesome idea Hmm not.

By handing out your silly cards not only do you come across really arrogant but you end up making the wrong person feel bad. Fancy ruining someone else's night out (for example) when you could quite easily be totally mistaken.

Think whethergirl has best idea. Grin some people's arrogance astounds me!

hairytriangle · 20/11/2010 09:07

At least get the grammar right 'you' not 'yourself'

saffy85 · 20/11/2010 09:12

Had a thought OP. Has it occured to you that maybe they are staring for some other reason. Like they like your shoes? Or your skirt is tucked in your knickers?

God how embarrassing would that be? You go "card" some unsuspecting bloke's missus and she informs you he was staring at you because he wondered if having one's skirt tucked in one's M&S pants was the latest new look.

BeaSpellsaLot · 20/11/2010 09:13

You (op) obviously think far too much of yourself.

Quattrocento · 20/11/2010 09:43

It might be my natural superiority complex. Or it might be a response designed to irritate borne out of an irritating OP.

redflag · 20/11/2010 09:46

Probably one who was starved of attention from the opposite sex as a teen, so feels the need to highlight it in the biggest way if she gets a "bite".

Or was that really harsh Grin

Anniegetyourgun · 20/11/2010 10:15

The OP reads like some chain email. I wouldn't take it in the least bit seriously. No doubt the inhabitants of Perth would be as surprised as the rest of us to hear about this initiative (only there the story is probably supposed to have started in, say, Germany). 'Tis the nature of such tales.

Don't see what's wrong with correcting spelling btw. It's a lot safer than most of the advice many of us give on here about far more serious issues - for the most part totally unqualified too (I'm not a trained psychologist or counsellor but I do have English A level!). On a trivial thread like this it isn't distracting from the important issue as, well, there isn't one!

You could say it's because the life/relationship advice has been actively sought, but it hasn't always - particularly on AIBU.
