Seriously. I mean it was mildly amusing but it wasn't THAT funny.

It there anyway of hiding all threads with the word pombear in them?

It's an emoticon too far IMO.

You watch, it's a slippery slope. We'll be having tickers and glittery avatars before you know it...

YABU reading posts about pombears is not obligatory.

I don't mind either way (though the vom emoticon should have come first obv). But I am a bit sad when I click on an exiting looking thread title just to find out someone else has just noticed the bear Grin.

please please please can someone explain what this Bear malarkey is all about??

I've been off board for a couple of weeks. That was a mistake - now I have absolutely no idea wtf is going on.

I won't be doing it again, that's fur sure

agreed - i thought the OP on that thread was gruesome - yes she's had a strange experience at the first dinner but to have the second dinner in order to titillate a bunch of internet strangers...how very unpleasant.

TigerFeet it was a dinner party that the OP was invited to with very posh/rich hosts. Dinner consisted of tinned soup, mac n cheese and cheap ice-cream, along with unexplained fits of giggles, odd conversation and a pinched bottom.

It transpired over the course of the thread that the couple were rather eccentric in other ways - donating a bottle of turps to a school tombola, for example.

After much egging on, the OP invited them to hers for a dinner party and vowed to make it equally as eccentric. She chickened out of a weird menu, but procured a cuckoo clock for the occasion along with other little touches. Her husband got into the spirit of things by wandering around, pre-dinner with a packet of crisps, uttering the now immortal words 'pombear, anyone?'

Hence the pombear references all over the place.

It was sort of amusing, but for some reason has taken off in a huge way, like some things do.

HTH. The original is now in classics, but is rather long.

"agreed - i thought the OP on that thread was gruesome - yes she's had a strange experience at the first dinner but to have the second dinner in order to titillate a bunch of internet strangers...how very unpleasant."

RedRobin. I have been sitting on my hands all day trying not to respond to a Pom bear backlash because It Really Doesn't Matter. But now you have called me 'gruesome' and unpleasant and inferred that I invited people to my dinner to mock them for the benefit of strangers. I did not, I am not and if you read the thread or any part of it, you will see that there is more spite in your response than there was in anything I ever said.

I did not start the pombear request. It is not quiche or clique - anyone can join any thread on Mumsnet - there is now inclusion or exclusion. You are welcome to your opinion and free to ignore the emoticon, but please don't call me names.

As you were Bear
