I am working Christmas day, Boxing day, New years Eve and New years day and the day after (Sunday). I have 27th and 28th off (big bloody deal). I work for the fucking NHS. I hate the BASTARDS.
Last year I had boxing day off.

My husband ordered a turkey who is still running around and called cyril.

I don't think there's a single person who would think this is a fair distribution of the rota. I hope you can get something sorted. Beg around for a swap for at least one of the days. (I'm doing New Year's Eve. Again.)

thumbwitch · 17/11/2010 22:35

Ditto for IF they work 25/12 THEN no work 26/12.

Bobbiesmum · 17/11/2010 22:36

I would scrutinise rota, see if anyone has both off and then demand action! I have challenged the nhs computer rota before and won! (had to threaten with going to my union mind you)

USoRight · 17/11/2010 22:36

I do get extra pay for the bank holiday I suppose, but I work every weekend anyway as thats when its busy and they were so desperate for me to sign up to that roster. PS the weekend working roster was put aside for the 2 week holiday period and I'm only part time and work 3 days a week. It really SUCKS!!!

OP posts:
USoRight · 17/11/2010 22:42

Will look at other peoples rota and COMPLAIN. Don't think I will get anywhere though. I only asked for xmas day and was happy to work EVERYTHING else. Sad Sad It is really unfair. Dont think I'll bother with anything this year, DH said might just as well go visit him mum - oh well, every cloud etc. Hate turkey anyway

nextafternursing · 17/11/2010 22:42

I share your employer, OP. Haven't seen my rota yet, will get it tomorrow.

I too do 3 days a week and am sure I have been screwed. The SWPs contradict the rota for xmas too.

And if we do Xmas Day, Boxing day, plus the mon/tues bank hols you don't get BH pay for all, just weekend pay for the XMAS Day and boxing day.

We must be the most crapped on part of the NHS in terms of lack of goodwill from above IMO.

nextafternursing · 17/11/2010 22:46

I don't know about you, but I have a huge conspiracy theory going on that they are trying to drive us to leave, saving on redundancy, for the changes coming in.(I have namechanged for this too!)

follyfoot · 17/11/2010 22:49

So so unfair. I used to look after rotas in the NHS and never ever wrote it so that people worked Christmas and New Year, thats a really basic rule on how to tread people decently. Just because its been done by computer, thats no excuse for you to have to work both. I'd complain....and loudly.

Poor you Sad

follyfoot · 17/11/2010 22:50

'treat' not 'tread' (mind you, I think you've been trodden on actually)

USoRight · 17/11/2010 22:50

next Couldnt believe it, everybody is up in arms about it. Start making alternative plans if I was you. Never, never, never have I worked everything before. Agree with everything you say.

OP posts:
USoRight · 17/11/2010 22:53

We are getting trodden on big time, us NHSD nurses, agree with the conspiracy theory that theyre trying to get rid of us, definitely

OP posts:
nextafternursing · 17/11/2010 22:53

I am trying, but been out of hands-on for a while, and now got small children to work around...is very hard.

Have even been considering the local nursing home as an optionSad

I didn't even hate my previous job! I wasn't even burned out.

This is the only role I have taken, that I have regretted. The only one.

ilovehens · 17/11/2010 22:54

I feel your pain.

I work in a care home and have to work Christmas Eve and Christmas Day even though I have kids. My fascist colleagues who are too old to have kids still expect me to work.

musicposy · 17/11/2010 22:55

My DH works for a big company and is working all 4 too. He has 27th, 28th and 29th off. He works a rolling rota and it's just the way it falls, it's basically tough. Not allowed to book any holiday from start of Dec through to mid Jan either, which is also annoying as his birthday, my birthday and DD1's birthday all fall in that period so we can never get time off for them.

If he stays there it should work out for him a couple of years down the line, but trouble is, every now and again they change the rotas, so you think you're going to get it and then you don't.

It's shitty but what can you do? It's just the way it is and there are always other people wanting jobs. Sad

nextafternursing · 17/11/2010 22:55

Ah well. May bump this tomorrow when I have seen my rota < wondering where USoRight works and if it's in my office>

mumeeee · 17/11/2010 22:59

YANBU. My sister had to work Chrisrtmas and Boxing day last year but she doesn't have to this year. She also doesn't have to work all the 4 big days.

mamatomany · 17/11/2010 23:00

Am I the only one thinking of Cyril ? And the OP doesn't even like turkey.
SAVE CYRIL

NorthernLurker · 17/11/2010 23:01

Ahhh e-rostering. Loved by managers because it saves money and means they can blame every shit decision on the computer. Hated by everyone else because it makes shit decisions Grin

USoRight · 17/11/2010 23:04

next you'll probably be frothing at the mouth like me!!!!

Everyone I work with is so lovely, but its like some kind of monstrous machinery over us, if I could work anywhere else practically I would, we really feel like cogs in a wheel.

OP posts:
USoRight · 17/11/2010 23:10

Wanted a lovely beef joint. Cyril has been on a farm running around with his brothers and sisters all short life, so he has had a happy life, hand reared and tucked up at night. My DH has no qualms about wringing his neck. He said he'll give him a stay of execution over christmas as i'm working

OP posts:
nextafternursing · 17/11/2010 23:13

Yes, I know it will be shit. They truly wouldn't give us the proverbial steam if we were on fire.

Am pondering taking a year or two to be SAHM, and I have never not worked. Plus if I quit, and DH picks up some overtime, we may fall into the losing Child Benefit bracket even though we would have much less money. It is all insane.

Must get to bed, got the funhouse tomorrow.

Hope you can try to get a swap, at least we miss one of the busy days by doing 3 days a week - because 4 of the busy days are in the same weekGrin

USoRight · 17/11/2010 23:19

I'm doing that 4th because a friend was desperate for a special occasion and I'm a big softy!
