to suggest to cafe staff that they correct the errors on their menu?

The cafe in question is part of a major chain, and has several errors on the menu - displaying incorrect grammar, spelling and punctuation.

The menu is printed, (by a professional company) framed and laminated.

I have to use the cafe regularly due to commitments and location. Every time I see the glaring errors, I wince. The food is fine and the staff friendly, so I have no other gripes. They have a comments box which invites you to 'let us know how you feel - the good and the bad!'

Was I being unreasonable, in a bored moment, to list all the errors, plus corrections and a small explanation of each, and put the list in their comments box? Will they now think I am mad, and spit in my tea? Grin

I would, but keep it anonymous if possible

Flisspaps · 16/11/2010 16:07

YANBU.

Do they sell paninis? Wink

ChristmasTrulyReigns · 16/11/2010 16:12

Yep I'd be worried about them spitting in you're tea.

Its not acceptable.

Sarsaparilllla · 16/11/2010 17:06

Do it, please please do it Grin

GucciGuilty · 16/11/2010 17:27

YANBU, I'd do the same.

NormalityBites · 16/11/2010 17:30

there's a cafe in the place I grew up. I went there today with my sister.

They offer a range of panini's.

Panini's what, I wonder.

I would ask them.

But I enjoy their espresso too much to get myself barred Grin

MaryBS · 16/11/2010 17:41

At least its not an expresso, Hecate :o

Ladyofthehousespeaking · 16/11/2010 17:44

Panino.

ChristmasTrulyReigns · 16/11/2010 17:47

NormalityBites · 16/11/2010 17:47

The problem is if you ask them, they just look at you blankly, and then you have to explain, and then they look at you like you are mad.

The chances are that the staff member you are speaking to has nothing to do with the production of the written media around the premises. Which is why I thought the comment box would be a good idea.

I just couldn't stomach any more 'sandwich's' Grin

I was very nice on my letter. I signed it 'from a pedant' but I bet they know who it was...

I wonder if the menu and signs will change?

We pointed out a few errors in the menu at our local pub. Next time they revised the menu, they e-mailed it out to me for proof-reading and paid me a pint for my services! Grin

NormalityBites · 16/11/2010 17:57

Fantastic MMQC!

When I sent it anonymously I didn't think of that possibility.....

You see on menus for Indian restaurants different spelling for things and often wonder what the correct way is?

Is Nan bread or Naan bread?

Korma, Kurma or kormer?

mind boggles

just5moreminutes · 16/11/2010 18:08

I went to a pub who served 'nana' bread and a wide range of sand'witches'. I was tempted to remind them cannibaism is just not cricket.

pointissima · 16/11/2010 18:39

hotel restaurant in Singapore sold bruschetta with "tamponade". I think they meant "tapenade" but couldn't face ordering some to find out

NormalityBites · 16/11/2010 19:34

'nana' bread is banana bread in this house! Did they mean that or naan bread?

Tatty's mention of chai syrup has reminded me of asking for a chai latte in sainsbury's - I expected a chai steamer (hot milk foamed up with chai syrup) and was a bit surprised to get a coffee latte with chai syrup in it - it didn't exactly taste as I was expecting.

YANBU about the spelling mistakes, though - a professional printer should be able to correct spelling mistakes like that for their clients - it's the least I would expect if I were paying for laminated menus.

nannynobnobs · 16/11/2010 19:56

My local has cafe-style cloths on the tables in the day. They have 'expresso' written on them.

londonmackem · 16/11/2010 20:07

I have to sit on my hands when I go to my local pub for lunch not to correct the 'desert' menu and 'porfitorolls' - agh!

cumfy · 16/11/2010 20:08

I signed it 'from a pedant'

They won't understand :o
They'll probably phone the police Wink

Indian restaurants are translating Hindi words and script into roman letters and there is no right / wrong way to do this. It's a phonetic spelling of a foreign word and script.
