to want to ban the use of the name Lexxii

Specifically that spelling.

I don't know if it is just prevalent in the west country, but I know 2 women at work (2 different workplaces) in the last year who have called their newborn baby daughters Lexxii.

It is (a) a crap name - if you want Lexy or whatever as a nickname fine, but don't saddle a kid with this daft name for life. Call her Alexa or summat and (b) spelling it with tho x's and two i's is utterly hideous and shows the parents as being thick and/or porn fans.

I knew an Alexia years ago who was known as lexi and she was stunning and lovely so have always associated the name with her.

However the double xx double ii spelling is a bit much.

Haliborange · 12/11/2010 22:24

Bonkers. But you never know, they might be the next Condoleezza...

peppermum · 12/11/2010 22:24

It's my neighbour's dog's name - say no more Grin

Elemental · 12/11/2010 22:29

Makes me think of Alan Partridge and the plural of Lexus.

GetOrfMoiLand · 12/11/2010 22:31

Lol at Alan Partridge, don't get me started on Alanisms, pipe of pringles anyone?

I read somewhere the reasoning why Condoleezza's mum called her that, it was rather convoluted.

Can't imagine a barrister or whatever called lexxii.

ChippingIn · 12/11/2010 22:31

It looks like a computer brand when written like that.

However, there are names I would ban before that one Grin

LoveRedShoes · 12/11/2010 22:32

It's exotic innit

ratspeaker · 12/11/2010 22:34

They'd just move on to Lexxxiii as the spelling
or Lxee

Haliborange · 12/11/2010 22:37

Allegedly Condoleeza is from the Italian musical term, "con dolcezza", meaning "with sweetness". In other words, her parents couldn't spell.

thequimreaper · 13/11/2010 00:26

I like Lexie and it's very popular now so the kid won't be teased. I don't particularly like that spelling but each to their own and all that.

OTTMummA · 13/11/2010 00:29

Won't get teased on the estate, but might not get that accountancy interview in 25yrs time.

ChippingIn · 13/11/2010 00:35

thequimreaper - I like the name Lexie (I like the spelling Lexi or Lexie) but Lexxii is just mad.

ratspeaker · 13/11/2010 00:48

Lexxii makes me think " le 22"

Tigerrevsup · 13/11/2010 00:52

Wouldn't get an interview with me, sorry. If had got to 21 or whatever saddled with Lexxii and hadn't changed it to Angela, then no chance.

iheartdusty · 13/11/2010 00:55

treyc anyone

ChippingIn · 13/11/2010 00:57

Tiger - what about a Lexi?

iheartdusty - I nearly said that before! I do try not to get into names on here though or there will be someone getting upset!

DreamTeamGirl · 13/11/2010 00:59

Lexi is fine so is Lexy

Double xx double ii, the parents should be shot so YANBU

Tigerrevsup · 13/11/2010 01:00

Of course I'd really interview a good candidate whatever they're called but I'd take against someone with a silly name, not the right thing to do but I would. and I speak as someone who for the last 30 years has gone by a made up name. But mine is classy, see.

scotsgirl23 · 13/11/2010 01:03

Blush mother of a six month old lexi, definitely not a chav! She is officially an Alexandra though - we liked Lexi as a childs' name/nickname/whatever, but, as a full name it definitely failed the doctor/judge/interview test.

OTTMummA · 13/11/2010 01:11

As long as she can put Alexandra on her applications Scotsgirl23 you've committed no crime :)

ChippingIn · 13/11/2010 01:24

scots I think the xx ii is the chavy bit, not the Lexi bit :)

scotsgirl23 · 13/11/2010 01:28

Breathes sigh of relief that I have not burdened my child for life and I don't need to immediately rush out to change her name.

I do think that stupid spellings are just annoying and pointless though - and downright cruel in some cases. And I'm not a fan of giving what I would class as nickname or pet names as a formal name - I think I'm a bit old fashioned.

She was actually named after a family member who died whilst I as pregnant (a "Sandie") and we thought that with Alexandra her name could be lots of different variations to suit her.

scotsgirl23 · 13/11/2010 01:29

Admittedly the local chavs currently seem to be occupied with the Scottish Islands as names...shame, as they are pretty names!

ChippingIn · 13/11/2010 01:32

Mull?

Grin

I get splinters on my bum re NN/formal name...

Take Lexi as an example. Say I like it and choose it... but decide it's not 'formal enough' (Dr/Lawyer etc test) so feel the need to choose a 'long' name, but don't like Alexandra or think it's OK but don't like Alex... it's a minefield!

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 13/11/2010 01:34

phew - glad to see it's just that spelling

if I ever have a girl she will (future potential OH agreeing to it of course Wink) Alexis
