I was just flicking through tomorrow's front pages and the headlines talk about Muslims burning the Poppy today. This has made me really very angry. AIBU or is this just freedom of speech and I need to be tougher?

theevildead2 - but you could make that argument about any any action that incites racial or religious hatred. This was a deliberate act to incite hatred against Muslims.

I think the OP and others on this thread need to realise that they live in a free and democratic society.

Thank you for the reminder and I am very aware of the fact I live in a free and democratic society. I also appreciate my freedom of speech and liberty so no need to make me or others out to be ignorant when I/we are not and are merely trying to explore our thoughts and feelings on this topic.

Are we supposed to turn a blind eye to everything that happens in society then or just the things that other people tell us to turn a blind eye to?

They're not a bunch of horrible Muslims but a bunch of horrible people: Islam doesn;t seem to be any more relevant to their actions than anythingelse, it's certainly not in any doctrine or the beleifs of the Muslims I know.

Some people are twatty, they go under all colours and faiths and sometimes they use those as an excuse. They are still though just twats.

yes but no one is else burning poppies in the UK. They do not do Islam any favours.

A lot of anti Muslim sentiment is media driven. If there's no worthy anti Muslim news, you'll suddenly get crap articles like '50% of Muslims want Sharia Law in Britain!!!!!'

The Bristish Legion Poppy selelrs enar Mum got alods fo absue this eyar; as there is no Mosque for miles there is virtually a nil Muslim population in her town.

It's the Muslims who get teh coverage but sadly there are twats everywhere.

They also held up placards which said "Our soldiers will go to paradise, British soldiers will go to hell" and "British soldiers will burn in hell"... However, there was a mob of British people there also, who were holding up their own placards and shouting racist abuse back.

The most distressing thing for me personally, is that this small group of Muslims have given a lot of people the means to justify being racist. I saw a comment from a 16 yr old girl on facebook ( daughter of a cousin) which said "Muslims burn poppies, we burn Muslims... fair?".

I felt sick.

They are extremists, not muslims.

End of.

THe thing with muslims is they cannot stand any critisism whatsoever and shout critics down by playing the racist anti muslim card

I also know a few Sikhs who loathe Islam in general (have an RE degree; tend to know people from quite a lot of diverse faiths) so am wondering if that's your angle given your user name?
