to wonder why people care what they look like on the school run?

Just what it says really. I have gleaned from other forums that some do care very much. I would make an effort dressing for work, or a night out - but beyond being clean could truly not give a toss what I look like at pick up time.
So why? Who are you dressing up for? Not a judgement - just genuine bemusement...

I don't care what other people look like when they do the school run. I just want them to brush their teeth. Blasts of halitosis in the cloakroom are most unwelcome.

Beyond that, I don't care if you turn up in a tramp's pyjamas.

AnyFucker · 15/11/2010 13:22

twopeople...yes, you are judgemental

I can think of lots of reasons why people may go back to bed after school drop-off

I don't do it myself (much Wink) but it's not robbing defenceless grannies is it ?

SlightlyJaded · 15/11/2010 14:14

Fuck me if I had half a chance to go back to bed I'd be there. Electric blanket, hot water bottle, newpaper, tea, naked stranger, the lot!

Sadly, never happens.

ok (other than the ones you already mentioned)

*night shift
*chronic long term illness
*depression
*insomnia
*chronic pain
*partner keeps you awake at night eg. snoring
*weak bladder that needs emptying every hour
*heavy period requiring a couple of changes of sanitary protection
*late pregnancy, can't get comfy
*a shag with the milkman Wink

shall I continue ? Grin

Just as I am getting it back together for the school run, I sprog again and look as if I've been walking a big dog in a high wind in earthquake relief clothing for the next two years.

I am on my way home from work when I collect my dd so I always look smart and coordinated. If I have a day off and take my dd to school I would want to be nicely dressed, I just don't enjoy looking scruffy. I wouldn't go to school in running gear because my dd has said it would embarrass her...

AnyFucker · 15/11/2010 20:35

twopeople, I have to admit to a little bit of repetition there (gotta make that list look more impressive Wink)

but I can give examples of each of those headings if you like...

I think you got the point though (that I am a pedant and just a teeny bit annoying ?)

I always wear makeup on the school run, just because I feel better with it on.

It literally takes less than a minute to put it on.

And I often stick a nice necklace on, takes 10 seconds.

Brushing hair - 10 seconds.

So am always genuinely bemused by threads on here berating people for taking hours to get ready for school run and being vain etc.

Incidentally am going to go back to bed when I get back today as have a cold. But have decided to do it once a week anyway, for a couple of hours, as I work and also care for dd who has SN and have health issues

There you go, an insight into vain mothers who dress up for school run,and also lazy slatterns who go back to bed afterwards, in one. Grin

YunoYurbubson · 16/11/2010 07:44

Surely people are just... dressed?

I wear clothes every day, whether I am doing the school run or not.

Confused

Sometimes my plans influence what I wear, but the school run just gets me in whatever I happen to be wearing.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 16/11/2010 07:46

Exactly, it doesn't take longer to stick smart clotheson than old jeans and a fleece.

Not being lecturing/smug, just always genuinely puzzled by threads saying people only have time to put jeans on.

SlightlyJaded · 16/11/2010 10:36

And anyway Fanjo there are jeans and there are Jeans, non? You can make jeans look v.nice if you avoid teaming with tea stained fleece.

I make an effort because

a) I don't work, so when else am I going to wear my clothes?

b) I sometimes feel very down on the inside in the mornings. Nice to look together on the outside

c) I get compliments from DH

JamieLeeCurtis · 16/11/2010 17:50

... jeez I sound sad!. Actually, for me, making an effort is a reflection of, and an encouragement to my self confidence and self esteem

So ner

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 16/11/2010 19:24

Jamielee - good for you, gal! Smile
