are they worth it really?

thighsmadeofcheddar · 09/11/2010 12:28

a resounding yes. they are brilliant.

SweetKate · 09/11/2010 12:29

YANBU. They are horribly expensive and my DS doesn't like it anyway .. Waste of money IMO.

Honeydragon · 09/11/2010 12:31

YABU Grin

They really are although for over 6 I would pick JD bug over maxi that is even more superior IMO and a lot cheaper

DinahRod · 09/11/2010 12:32

Are they expensive?

CwtchyBlueMama · 09/11/2010 12:32

My ds loves his,in fact he has a new one for Christmas coming so we will be selling his old one soon.

It has given him loads of confidence & he loves going to school on it.

MrsVincentPrice · 09/11/2010 12:38

They are expensive (and the maxis are shockingly expensive) but they are good, and robust and enormous numbers of children have them, so I think they're probably quite happy with their business model thank you very much. That's capitalism for you.

Booper13 · 09/11/2010 12:48

YABU My DS LOVES his. He has used it since he turned 2 and was so good on it that when DS2 was born we didn't need to buy a double buggy. Also the customer service is outstanding. We have contacted the company twice and both times had a reply within an hour and replacement parts dispatched free of charge even when the scooter was over a year old and we didn't have a receipt.
I have been seriously impressed not only with the product, but also with the company. A very different experience to Bugaboo customer service which is unbelievably crap!
Reading this back I realise I may arouse suspicion so I can assure any sceptics that I have absolutely nothing to do with the company.

whoneedssleepanyway · 09/11/2010 12:50

YABU, we bought DD1 a micro mini for her 2nd birthday and she has pretty much used it every day for the last 1.5 years and goes to nursery and back on it.

£45 is a lot but when you think of all the cheap tat you accumulate for around the £5-£10 mark that doesn't get played with I think for something that gets used day in day out it is worth it.

lulubooboo · 09/11/2010 12:55

So it seems they are reasonable for the younger ages. My girls are 4 and 5...have never had scooters...it's a lot to spend for plain looking 3 wheeler scooters isn't it?

fedupwithdeployment · 09/11/2010 13:01

DS2 has used his a heck of a lot. It was definitely money well spent! He got it when just 2 and is nearly 4 and must have scooted miles on it. Probably over 1000 miles. And it is in one piece. Highly recommended for a 2 year old. we are now considering upgrading him to a 2 wheeler.

Honeydragon · 09/11/2010 14:10

lulubooboo

they are soo worth it for that age group and the resale is good. If you use the jo mamen code on mumsnet you'll get 10% off too!

fedupwithdeployment yup I'd dread to think what ds's one would show if it had had a mileometer on Grin

FindingMyMojo · 09/11/2010 14:13

worth every penny.

lulubooboo · 10/11/2010 12:25

hanks evewryone...I may have to have a word with Father Christmas then!

they are an old person's nightmare. dd's grandmother was in fear of her life with all the toddlers whizzing about her in the school playground.

i would ban them!

OnlyWantsOne · 10/11/2010 12:29

worht it for a 4 yr old who hasnt scooted before?

AnnieLobeseder · 10/11/2010 12:29

Not sure I'd buy one for a child past 3 or 4 - you can't adjust the height and kids go to school looking all stooped over.

DD2 (2.9) loves hers and is brilliant on it. Absolutely worth every penny.

DD1 (5) has a 2-wheeler and it's much better for her age, IMO.

fel1x · 10/11/2010 12:29

well worth the money!!
Ds1 had one from aabout 2, he got the bigger one at age 5 and DS2 now uses the old one. Its been used daily for about 4 years and is still going strong. One of the Dcs absolute favourite things ever!

The3Bears · 10/11/2010 12:36

I think there worth it got ds his for his 3rd birthday and he loves it goes on it everyday without fail :)

lulubooboo · 10/11/2010 16:34

stll getting the impression that they are worth it for younger kids but not older. even the razor spark is cheaper!

My 5 and 7 yr olds will be getting Micro Sprites and my 3 yr old a Micro Lite for Christmas. They all have cheap scooters at the moment and you can really see (and hear) the difference. Their current scooters rattle and shake and the wheels are so hard that they constantly skid.
A friend's daughter has a Micro Sprite and it is so much smoother and has rubbery wheels which grip the pavement well. It also folds up easily.

icancancan · 10/11/2010 17:23

just bought maxi-scooter for ds (almost 5)as he got so much wear out of his microscooter. the maxi is approx £90 but is sturdy and aimed at age range 5-12. Ds loves his and is out on it every day, even in the dark (can buy little lights for them). definitely one of our better 'value per use' items.

Horton · 10/11/2010 18:30

Definitely worth the cash. DD is 4 and has been using hers constantly since she got it. It makes walking anywhere five million times faster. I will definitely be getting her a larger version when she outgrows this one.

Horton · 10/11/2010 18:30

Oh, where do you get the little lights, icancancan? DD would love those for Christmas.

pointydog · 10/11/2010 18:32

How muich are they now? Around £50?

My dds got YEARS of use out of them. Fabbo.
