to complain about Peter Kay's 'Autism' joke ?

BBC One show last night, Peter Kay enters studio flanked by a couple of Children in Need 'Pudseys'. Peter Kay falls prone on floor & flails arms etc. Jokes he is 'autistic'. Laughter.

Not on iplayer, been cut. Very offensive so not surprised.

Is he that dense that he can't see it as unreasonable to get a cheap laugh from those with a condition that benefit in many ways from financial aid supplied by Children in Need?

Google throws up he often jokes at expense of those who are Autistic.
But on a show with Pudsey?

I think it not unreasonable to not only complain to the BBC but also wish a child with autism on him & his wife, maybe he would be less insulting.

OP posts:

can't have been that quick if he threw himself on the floor surely Confused

ProfYaffle · 06/11/2010 14:59

I definitely heard the 'VT on Autism' quip but nothing else about Autism.

ShowOfHandsInEpistolaryForm · 06/11/2010 15:00

People missed him falling prone to the floor, flailing and stating he's autistic? How quickly did he manage these theatrics? He's a ninja!

And nobody else in the cyber world saw it either? Or if they did, they weren't at all offended?

Really?

MaMoTTaT · 06/11/2010 15:07

PMSL @ "he's a ninja"

bruffin · 06/11/2010 15:09

YOu also claim that googling wil show that PK often mjokes about autism, can you show links because I havve drawn a blank on that one.

MaMoTTaT · 06/11/2010 15:10

me too bruffin - I'm usually pretty good on google but can't find anything on that bit either.

bruffin · 06/11/2010 15:15

I need a new keyboard, my typing and spelling isn't that badSad

MaMoTTaT · 06/11/2010 15:21

awww - if it's any consolation I've spent the morning doing the church newsletter.

Went over and printed out 60 copies of it at church (double sided) - folded them and as I did the last one I suddenly spotted that I've typed that people don't have to be "ablet" too Blush.

We have shitloads of pedants in our church among the older lot ARGHH

DaisySteiner · 06/11/2010 15:22

Maybe somebody has Sky+ it and can confirm or deny what did or didn't happen?

bruffin · 06/11/2010 15:38

If you look at the entry on iplayer it doesn't look like anything could have been cut the sound is seemless, also the programme runs the normal time a full 30 minutes. There is an entry of 30seconds but that would have been the time between the programmes anyway.

exbrummie · 06/11/2010 15:58

I also watched it and don't recall the first item that the op decribes.

I have an autistic brother so did notice the vt comment but also took it to mean "cut to vt"and autism just happened to be the subject that came into his head.

ColdComfortFarm · 06/11/2010 16:36

Gosh I think the op sounds libellous tbh. Falling to the floor and saying 'I am autistic' is totally different to what opther people saw ans what was broadcast. Ass for the wishing an autistic child on them, now that is incredibly bloody offensive and disablist! I too have an autistic son and I feel completely honoured to have him, he is loved and valued every bit as much as our other children and I feel very lucky to have him. How dare you suggest that autistic children are some kind of subhuman curse. Oh, the irony of accusing pk of being offensive in these circs!

pagwatch · 06/11/2010 16:37

arf at ninja

ApocalypseCheese · 06/11/2010 16:41

Ooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhh, Chris Evans didn't look very happy !!

detoxdiva · 06/11/2010 16:45

Like I said earlier - I was watching The One Show please don't out me Grin and at no point did he fall on the floor or say he was autistic.

The iplayer episode is as was live last night.

MaMoTTaT · 06/11/2010 16:47

LOL detox at not outing you Grin

So - it would appear that the OP, saw something on The One show which it appears no-one else did.......and then seeks out MN to tell us all Confused

ApocalypseCheese · 06/11/2010 16:49

Some people are easily offended, couldn't see anything to get me knickers in a knot over tbh

MaMoTTaT · 06/11/2010 17:08

oh show - at the end of that in suggested clips in that infamous Chris Rock clip - as unPC as it may be (and with an awful lot of swearing in it) I've just PMSL watching it again

2shoes · 06/11/2010 17:10

I missed the one show, asked dh who watched it and he didn't see this(he would have noticed as we are very anti sn jokes)

ShowOfHandsInEpistolaryForm · 06/11/2010 17:17

Is that the 'I take care of my kids' one? You're supposed to you dumb mf...

MaMoTTaT · 06/11/2010 17:29

Show - yup that's the one - and some other fab lines

nickelbangBANGbang · 06/11/2010 17:31

MaMo - you should hand out little pieces of paper at the door saying there's a prize if they can spot errors in the newsletter.

Grin
MaMoTTaT · 06/11/2010 17:33

"I 'aint never been to jail"

"what do you want - a cookie, you're not expected to go to jail" Grin

oh nickel - I had 7 people (including 2 of my own kids) at choir practice the other night - enough to actually do something Grin

nickelbangBANGbang · 06/11/2010 17:34
Grin yeay! that's brilliant!

I told you you'd get more nearer the time (and that's why you have so many children, too, to populate the choir! Wink )
