to want to go to fireworks night when pregnant?

My OH doesn't reckon I should go our friends fireworks night party this year as I will be 29 weeks pregnant.

I think i'll be fine but he's scared it will induce birth. i think he's being stupid but i am worried that the fireworks could harm my baby.....

what do you think???

As long as you stand facing the fireworks and not have someone creep up on you from behind with a banger I can't see why a few loud noises and sparks should have any effect. Are you the nervous type normally?

We'll be setting off lots in our back garden as always and I'm 26 weeks pregnant.

I went to the noisiest firework night EVER last year 14 days before DS2 was born. No prob at all. Nice of your DH to be concerned but if babies were born every time there was a loud noise then you'd have to stay indoors for nine months.

How exciting are the fireworks going to be? If you want to go, and can be bothered, go and enjoy yourself!

I think I've never seen a public health warning banning pregnant women enjoying fireworks, but wouldn't be surprised to see one considering pregnant women have to be controlled by others 27/7.

If you are actually worried that loud noises can cause premature birth then phone your midwife for reassurance - that's what she is there for. If not then laugh at your OH and go enjoy yourself.

Your dear OH is just being (over) protective I think. I would definatly go, I am assuming that your friends will not be lobbing bangers around!!

Awww, how sweet, he's being protective.

Baby is cushioned from loud noises by being inside you.

You are presumably not scared of fireworks.

You will go ooooo aaaaaaah and be happy, releasing happy hormones that will make the baby happy.

My DD was 7th of Nov & I didn't fancy all the bangs (no particular reason just didn't fancy it) so my friends got some bangless (pet friendly) fireworks for me - very sweet. We all ended up shouting BANG anyway Smile

I did lock myself out of the house on the evening of the local public fireworks display (on my due date) & had to travel on several buses through all the crowds to collect spare keys to a soundtrack of the fireworks on the way there - should have just gone to the bloody display.

I will be going, I'm only 25 weeks but it wouldn't have occurred to me not to go due to pregnancy! Only concern later on would I guess be standing up for a long time...

I haven't seen anything indicating it's even remotely a bad idea.

i dont see how its going to induce birth, he is just worrying unnecessarily its not a realistic concern is it?? i think you should go and enjoy yourself, the next yr you may not get a chance as you might not want to take a small baby or may have to get the baby in bed or something

Wouldn't occur to me not to go either. On the day DD1 was due I was at an electro-thrash gig in a pub. (trying to get her to come out!)

I went to a Kings of Leon gig when I was about 28 weeks pregnant with DS. He had quite a bop in there Wink

Good god! Yep, he's being stupid!

I had a whale of a time watching one of the biggest annual displays in the country when I was 7 months pregnant. I took DD1 too, who was 17 months old.

Go, make the most of not having your hands full of baby/buggy/carseat/bottles/nappies/changing bag/teddies and enjoy. Oh, and btw, be warned, next year some twit will be telling you that you mustn't take your babe to the fireworks display!

Good grief I was still going out at 39 weeks pregnant ( it was over Christmas and I was damned if I was staying in whilst everyone else was having fun!)

Tell him to chill out and have a Hot Dog for me as I will be stuck inside with a 1 year old who hates loud bangs whilst DH takes DS1 to the display.

A friend of mine's wife went to a fireworks party when pregnant and her wee girl did backflips every time there was a loud bang so I'm guessing they certainly can hear some noise in there. Uncomfortable for her but the baby was just fine and is now a lovely six year old.

What a load of bollocks. Go and enjoy! And if you're in London, stay well back from the bonfire because there'll be no one around to rescue you if there's a fire...

I went to a Take That concert when pregnant.And was fine despite being nearly deaf after with all the shrieking...mostly done by me,Grin.
And if I withstood the hormonal excitement of a Take That concert,a few fireworks should be fine!

I really doubt a firework display would pose a danger. Pg women aren't the delicate flowers I think some people think we are.

Heavy lifting can be dangerous yes
stessful situations yes
but loud banging Hmm

fwiw I was about 30 weeks pg with ds and about 8 weeks pg with dd when I went to firework displays and it never even entered my head not to go.
