:(
I've only had it 2 months, it's the nicest/newest car I've ever had and I love it.

Last night some mindless idiot keyed all the way along the passenger side so it has a really long nasty scratch on it :(

I have a £250 excess on my insurance so it'll have to wait to get fixed until after Christmas.

I'm not an angry person but it makes me so mad!!!!!!! I'm having actual violent thoughts.

Why?????????????? Angry

You are right to have violent thoughts and you would be right to act on them as well.

Its not illegal to half park on all pavements, our pavement is half tarmacked so we can park on it.

YANBU. I don't know why people do this kind of thing, but it's extremely thoughtless and very expensive to fix.

Our one and only ever new car was keyed two days after we got it, was brand new as well :( Was only a Focus and was parked in our parking bay outside our flats in a private road. I cried for hours. We never did get it sorted...

And some pavements do have marked parking on them.

Oooh, CoinOperatedGirl, that mother was lucky not to have been done with child abduction! Glad it turned out sensibly, though.

YANBU. They scratched your car out of pure jealousy that you had something so lovely, that they couldn't afford. Can't stand that kind of attitude - kicking people who have done well for themselves.

It was probably some lout just walking down the road doing it for fun. I've seen them kick off wing mirrors and snap arials before.

YANBU - my dp had someone nearly take the fender off his midlife crisis 2-seater in the station car park the other day and not leave a note or anything.

Then when he took it in for a £650 respray someone dinged the door of the courtesy car and he had to pay for that as well. Not a happy bunny.

If you were parked on the pavement and the pavement isn't designated for parking, well, I don't have much sympathy.

Best not to park on the pavement I think.

Report
MsSparkle · 05/11/2010 15:57

I must admit i do hate it when cars park half on the pavement. It's like they are saying it's more important that car drivers can get past your car then it is for pedestrians.

Report
Ormirian · 05/11/2010 15:59

And another thing! Parking half on the pavement where there are double yellow lines doesn't make it any less of an offence. In fact you are pissing of drivers and pedestrians. Sorry OT but it irritates me Grin

YANBU to be upset, but YABU to want to physically hurt someone over it. It is ultimately a piece of metal (albeit it a nice one you are fond of), not a person. Actually, maybe YANBU to want to, but to do actually do so, very disproportionate.

where I live we have to park half on the pavement because the road is too narrow to park fully on the road. Last time I didn't my car got scraped all along the side (I think by the bin lorry). I can still get my double buggy down the pavement though.

Presumably people don't park on the pavement when there is no need to?

oh, and yanbu by the way. I have a nice key scratch running from my front light to my back down the drivers side Angry

YANBU. Mindless vandalism. Hate it.

I also do hate the way that some MNetters seem to think that criminal damage to a car is actually justified if a car is parked badly, etc. Parking badly is not right by any means. Infact in some cases it is a traffic offence. However - ever heard the phrase "two wrongs don't make a right?" Because keying a car. regardless of where parked, if a criminal offence and you are acting no better than a criminal and certainly no better than the driver.

I feel your pain: 3 months ago someone keyed my lovely brand new car (parked perfectly reasonably before anyone starts!) two lines right down the drivers side door and rear wing.

Why???? 4 figures to fix. It's just so bloody pointless. I can just about understand someone reversing into a car accidentally and driving off, or even breaking the window to nick the satnav/mobile/whatever has been left.

It's just so mindless.

YANBU. Someone reversed into our car a couple of years ago (or someone gave it a really goot booting - difficult to tell, but large dent to the door/crack in the paintwork was the outcome). No hope in hell of us being able to afford to get it fixed so it's there to this day.

As it was probably someone local I had fantasies about tracking them down and giving them a right good shaming. I don't do violence, but public humiliation would have felt really goooooood. Followed by arrest for leaving the scene of an accident.

Keying a car is so cowardly and mindless. Two members of my family parked up the road (legally) to make space for my grandmother's hearse outside her house on the day of her funeral. Someone obviously took exception to these arrangements and keyed both parked cars. So horrible.

I feel your anger. :(

I'm going to try and get some pen thing that can apparently cover the scratches? Anyone used one of these?

Inconsiderate parking is much worse than keying a car. Bad parking effects everyone. Keying a car effects one person.

Report
PlanetEarth · 05/11/2010 17:02

Actually Coalition, no it isn't. Inconsiderate parking is a pain, but is thoughtless rather than malicious (big difference I think) and is generally a temporary annoyance. Keying a car is malicious and can cost the victim hundreds of pounds to put right.
