To really want a pod coffee machine

even though they are tied in with Nestle Blush

I really like those Krupps and Nespresso machines. Are they overpriced gimmicks and over rated or will the pleasure I get overcome the guilt?

Yep - it looks like the little robots in Red Dwarf so we nicknamed it the Skutter!

VivaLeBeaver · 02/11/2010 12:00

It really does look like a scutter!

Honeydragon · 03/11/2010 20:51

Viva - I've bought the scutter, it will be my birthday present !!!!

£69.99 on Amazon Grin - I had e vouchers too! So I ended up paying £57.49, in real money.

lol at you lot, i moved recently and had to clear out the shed- found two posh coffe machines relegated to the darkest recesses of said shed and announced to facebook what a load of crap i'd found- within minutes people were begging me for them! i make do with a morphy richards Blush cappucino machine, it makes great expresso, warms the milk and has a frother, i think it cost about £30.

have fun with the coffee machines ladies Grin but remember anything that can't be used with fresh ground jamaican blue mountain is frankly un-useable!

Honeydragon · 03/11/2010 21:12

reallywoundup

I used to get jamaican blue mountain beans by the kilo for free!! (previous job)

This is why I am a coffee phillistine now Grin I crave crave crap with fake milk, and resent Starbucks selling me "real" coffee, at such a ridiculous price. Blush

Envy i have to PAY!!!! grrrr Grin

I LOVE my nespresso machine. I have the milk frother too, it's a must IMO, it makes the whole experience very easy. Stick milk on to heat, warm up my machine, 2 capsules of strong coffee (one each for Dh and I) and there you have it. Quicker than boiling kettle for tea!

I have had it for 3 years - great customer service (it broke, I called them and they took it away to fix it but gave me a replacement machine in the meantime, FREE!) and easy to get hold of pods.

Also, rather sadly, I recently worked out it had paid for itself by not going to Costa etc for a coffee. In fact, I used to invite friends round, they would bring biscuits or cakes and I'd provide the coffee - it was much cheaper than being out.

And no, I don't work for them. It's just one of very few gadgets I have bought that I feel evangelical about (GHDs being the other one!!!)

okay people....Grin

after 15 years of faffing around with gaggia and the like i have recently purchased this coffee machine

aaaaaahhhhhh coffee

now its not an espresso/crema job but when you have three small children this gives me what i need:

programmable....the smell of fresh coffee waffting upstairs at 7am

bean to cup...fresh coffee is amazing

you have a pot that keeps warm for hours

what else do you need?

you stagger into kitchen, blitz some milk in your posh mug for 30sec and pour in your lovely coffee, its bliss!

TheYearOfTheCat · 03/11/2010 21:50

I have the magimix nespresso - it is fab!!

Yes, the pods are pricey, but it depends how much coffee you drink - I would have 1 cup a day, so 27p per pod isn't an issue. It would be different if you have an 8 cup a day habit.

The aerocino is brilliant as well. If you decide to buy a machine without it, you can always buy one on the nespresso website for £40.

LittleMissHissingFirecracker · 03/11/2010 22:02

My mum has this one. got it as a wedding present from friends of theirs that had one.

It is awesome

Schroeder · 03/11/2010 22:06

jangly · 03/11/2010 22:11

I've just ordered one of these from the site bran linked to. Think it looks pretty good, and cheap too.

Honeydragon · 03/11/2010 23:00

Turns out you cannot get flamed at all on Mumsnet as long as you like coffee!

Honeydragon · 03/11/2010 23:02

TY Emptyshell, it was your pointing out the scutter similarities that made me decide Grin - and saved me a few bob!
