4 year old DD has been watching this now for a few weeks.

He has been vile lately lots of nah nah nah nah!!! I never realised children actually ever did this. Every thing is stupid, she hates everything and anything i say is soooo unfair. she has also been a bit nasty to her friends and thinks she is better than everyone else and everything is babieish!!!

I havent ever watched it with her, it is normaly on when im doing dinner. But we were out for lunch today so I did not have to cook tonight so sat and watched it with her and thought her behaviour was a lot like horrid henrys in every way. Think I may have to limit her viewing.

My sister doesn't let her DT's boys aged 5 watch Horrid Henry at all. She reckons they totally behave badly after watching it.

allhallowsandwine · 28/10/2010 17:44

wow thats interesting to know. it is a bit ott.

I saw this on today - it's awful! I stick to cbeebies, that's pretty safe.

allhallowsandwine · 28/10/2010 17:47

she totaly out grown cbeebies but normal watches nickjr or has a story cd on. ben and holly are much more tame.

ds called me a moron the other day-after a bit of questioning he said horrid henry says it so its ok!!

allhallowsandwine · 28/10/2010 17:57

maybe it is aimed at older children but looks like it would be watched more by 4 to 6, my dn watched it at this age, he is now 8 but dont think he would watch it now.

Alambil · 28/10/2010 17:58

DS watches HH but he's had the talk of "that's a telly programme - it's not real and his "rules" do not apply in the real world" but DS is 8 and can comprehend that. I only started letting him watch it at 7ish so he could understand the whole it's-not-real thing.

TheBountyMuncher · 28/10/2010 17:58

Mmm DS is also a fan. He's prone to " It's not Faiiiir!"
Though I have bigged Peter up, and said Henry is mucky like DD- and it seems to be working! DS' room is super tidy and he's very proud of it, the little worm [hwink]

My friend's ds has developed a very annoying fake laugh/cackle for which she blames HH! My dds have shown no interest in it so far...

wholelotofarse · 28/10/2010 17:59

I cannot stand Horrid Henry, it magically gets turned over here............

notnowbernard · 28/10/2010 18:00

Horrid Henry is way better than The Beaker

If you don't like her behaviour after Henry, FGS don't let her at Tracy Beaker

She's been banned in our house a few times now...

allhallowsandwine · 28/10/2010 18:01

thebountymuncher will have that little prep talk with her.

i did actualy point out to her whilst we were watching that she behaves a bit like HH and we had a laugh about how retchid he is and that i wouldnt want her to be like that.

OP posts:
TheGhostlyPirate · 28/10/2010 18:02

Look folks - HH is going to be in therapy for YEARS as an adult. All his parents ever seem to say is "you horrid boy".

DS loves it needless to say but knows it's a TV programme and not real.

allhallowsandwine · 28/10/2010 18:02

she watches tracy beaker aswell.

OP posts:
notnowbernard · 28/10/2010 18:03

Get rid of her (TB, not your DD Grin)

Has she got older siblings? I wouldn't put TB on if my 4yr old was the oldest

allhallowsandwine · 28/10/2010 18:04

if he was mine hed def be in a home a long with the beaker [hgrin]

OP posts:
WhoAteAgentZigzagsBrain · 28/10/2010 18:05

I think the clue is in the title Grin

He is a bit of a 'tinker' but he always gets found out and told off, and it's a good chance to discuss why you shouldn't behave like that (although I'd prefer a spirited Henry than a drippy Peter Grin).

Children have got to be exposed to non-cbeebies stuff at some point, the children at school will do far worse.

BalloonSlayer · 28/10/2010 18:13

It seems to be on all fecking day this holidays.

Or have my DCs suddenly got back into it again.

I didn't mind the books but his awful voice - uuurgh, and that theme tune - seethe

Although today it did make me smile but only because it reminded me of that fab Mumsnet thread when the OP wanted to let her DS take his super-soaker to someone else's birthday party. I always thought that was going to turn out to be a wind-up with the OP pretending to be Henry's Mum.

allhallowsandwine · 28/10/2010 18:24

ha ha like the super soaker story.

OP posts:
NellieTheEllie · 28/10/2010 18:28

I don't let my dc watch Horrid Henry any more as I was fed up of hearing 'nah nah nah nah narrrrrrr' constantly Angry

janajos · 28/10/2010 18:29

I banned HH books!! After mine had read them and were turning into little monsters before my eyes!!

jonesy71 · 28/10/2010 18:32

AAAGGHH that awful voice, and the other one (although the content is not offensive) is Norman in Fireman Sam, why have the voices got to be so painfully screechy??

as for Horrid Henry, just hideous - I always dive for the remote if this comes on, so much so that my DS informs me now 'quick Mum, horrid Henry, turn it over!!'

I find most of Nick Jr fairly safe.

stoatsrevenge · 28/10/2010 23:24

Ummm, funny you say this. Took my class to see Horrid Henry on stage a couple of years ago. It was very well done, but towards the end I was expecting the 'moral' lesson - but this didn't happen. This shocked me a bit, and yes, I have to (boringly) admit that I think Horrid Henry is a poor role model for boys.

mollymawk · 28/10/2010 23:29

My DS1 loves reading HH (I didn't realise it was on TV, probably won't let him find out either) but doesn't seem to have picked up any particularly bad behaviour (maybe he was so close already there was nowhere to go...) BUT I am really annoyed because in one story recently someone said "Oh my God" (which I think is not good coming from 7 yo children) and now DS1 has started to say it. Grrr...
