I dont know about anyone on here, but i find all the music available for kids really poor - i find it next to impossible (other than classical music) to find some really good soothing music for my kids to nodd off too or play in the car (without having to trawl through albums to find something that works)......i heard there was a beatles orchestral versions cd which sound interesting - but anyone know of any recommended contemporary lullabies - or is it only me who finds that most of the advertised music for kids as annoying as i do.........

my DS still loves Moon Safari by Air - it was my preggers soundtrack (that and Fun Loving Criminals!) - it's very drifty and lovely. Plus it's french so you can feel very cultured!

There's a lovely song by the Charlatans which DD loves -
Toots and the Maytals also sends her off to sleep.
I have been known to sing on difficult nights..

Hi, have you tried Natalie Merchant's Leave Your Supper ? It is her musical interpreation of rhymes, lullabies poems etc and absolutely brilliant. I don't usually listen to her stuff but dh got me this as a suprise and I love it. Really nice to listen to.

Our ABC TV here in Oz has a toddler's show called Giggle and Hoot. It acts as a link for several shows... In the Night Garden, Grandpa in my Pocket, etc. At the end of the show Hoot flies off to look after the children until the next morning. It is a truly beautiful song.

I love by Vienna Teng (not all of the album is suitable for kids though - it also has an a capella song about dying in a car crash which always makes me cry.)

We have a version of Pure Imagination from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Maroon 5. Its so lovely and chilled and dreamy.
Its from a CD called Mary had a little Amp. There are childrens songs by contemporary artists.

It's not lullabies but Trudy Kerr's Jazz for Juniors is brilliant.

I also love Stacey Kent's version of the lullaby from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang but can never remember if it's Cockleshell Bay or Hushabye Bay.

It's Hushabye Mountain - I'm rubbish Grin

My 15 year old has been playing this today and it reminded me of this thread.

George harrison is good, my children love here comes the sun etc., simon and garfunkle are soothing and i second air and zero 7. We also have a great cd of bedtime meditations which are for children and take the kids on adventures. That is not one for the car as you will all nod off.

I used to love listening to the seekers carnival of hits, especially morningtown ride. Billy Joel was always on inthe car too. My current favourite song to play to ds is As the world falls down by David Bowie.
