hi i am a regulare but have name changed for this. i was wondering if anyone would e able to help me here. i have seen on the news about benfits being cut/capped but cant seem to find any exact figures.

was wondering if anyone could be able to help me and see if my benefit will be capped or cut, so that i can be prepared for this.

i recieve weekly:
£135 child tax credit
£48 cb
£65 incone support
£145 hb
£12 ctb

i no this seems like a huge amount when written like this but in reality it isnt. once i have paid gas, elec, water rates (£28 per week!), tv licence etc there is not much left for food/nappies.

i would be very grateful if anyone could help. i am not intending to be on benefit forever and i do want to better myself for myself and my children.

Oh and I am on benefits and I do NOT smoke!

usualsuspect · 22/10/2010 14:19

I work and smoke

Bloodymary · 22/10/2010 14:20

Good for you.

spikeycow · 22/10/2010 14:21

I work and wish I fucking smoked

ImGideonsMumAndIHateHimToo · 22/10/2010 14:21

Don't smoke, have never done drugs but Dh did discuss whether to get a bottle of wine in to celebrate when the partnership is made legal.
Haven't had a drink for over a month although that's partly due to diet.

usualsuspect · 22/10/2010 14:22

I smoke wardrobes

spikeycow · 22/10/2010 14:23

I smoke benefit bashers. The smell don't arf stick

Bloodymary · 22/10/2010 14:23

Oooh, I am still saving up for my wardrobe.

DamselInDisgrace · 22/10/2010 14:23

Saying that all the people you know who smoke claim benefits = all people who claim benefits smoke falls into more than one category of logical fallacy.

GypsyMoth · 22/10/2010 14:24

we arent allowed 'warburtons seeded batch loaf' either according to another thread!!

usualsuspect · 22/10/2010 14:25

or cheesestrings

Bloodymary · 22/10/2010 14:26

Lol at the 'warburtons seeded loaf' thread.

mamatomany · 22/10/2010 14:28

the income support is paid to the adult ,FOR the adult.....not the kids

Take the kids out of the equation and see who gives a fuck if you starve in the streets, not the benefits agencies.
Again 2 wrongs don't make a right but the only reason they are paid to sit on their arses is because they have children.

DamselInDisgrace · 22/10/2010 14:28

Is there a government-approved list of items one is allowed to buy if one receives benefits?

No to seeded batch loaf? White bread is presumably bad because of lack of fibre... So would supermarket own wholemeal be OK?

Wardrobes are unnecessary, but what about chests of drawers? Do we have to buy the chest of drawers in IKEA, or would it be OK to get one in Argos?

DamselInDisgrace · 22/10/2010 14:29

well, you do get benefits whether you have kids or not. I think lots of people care about whether people starve on the streets.

Go and try and apply as a single person without the right amount of contributions. You get 6 months of JSA if you worked full time. After that you are on your own.

usualsuspect · 22/10/2010 14:31

I think beds are considered a luxury..bit of sawdust on the floor maybe

DamselInDisgrace · 22/10/2010 14:32

I have a matching IKEA bedroom set too, although it doesn't include wardrobes and one of the bedside tables got broken (by removals men) so we only have one now. It is also the least sturdy bed frame imaginable. No crayon though.

spikeycow · 22/10/2010 14:32

I don't have blankets. I have skinned rats and sewed them together with borrowed needle and thread.

SquallyRose · 22/10/2010 14:33

Not suprised you change your name hon, for some reason I joined Mumsnet thinking it was a place for Mums to support each other, people like you Ilove make it anything but, congratulations on working 60 hours a week plus, I'm assuming you wouldn't be impressed if we started a do you kids actually know who their mum is thread off the back of your comments? I'm assuming you know what benefits you can't get because you've applied so basically, if you could get them you'd be claiming, and yes, I have children and yes, I claim benefits, mainly because I am a full time carer to a very sick husband but no doubt you'll think that while providing round the clock care and bringing up young children I should work too, this person asked for advice, can we not just do as she asked and quit the judgemental whining, you should be ashamed of yourselves, walk a mile in someone elses shoes before you judge them and this country might improve.
Namechanger I can only suggest you ring your local jobcentre and see if they can offer any advice but I think as already mentioned figures as such haven't been set yet so we've got to wait and see, best of luck in getting your situation sorted though Smile

GypsyMoth · 22/10/2010 14:33

plenty of people are on benefits without sitting on their arses all day MAMA!!!

its the same as being a SAHM.....only i'm also a SAHD,so twice as busy usually....doing both tasks whilst their bio DAD does sit on his arse all day refusing to work because the CSA will take 20% of his income to support the KIDS he was more than happy to create!!!!

DamselInDisgrace · 22/10/2010 14:34

you are entitled to income-based JSA as well, mamatomany. So, if you're single you'll still get money.

Incidentally, DP was denied any JSA after he finished his PhD and couldn't find a job because he didn't qualify for contributions based, and my income is considered too high (just about any bloody income is considered too high). I was incredibly annoyed on his behalf. What if I was some controlling fucker who wouldn't let him have any money?

spikeycow · 22/10/2010 14:35

Do you know one summer my arse was on my leather sofa so long it literally stuck. Was sooo painful
