To feel like there is not one decent women's magazine on the market

They all churn out the same tired old stuff slightly rehashed every now and again, there's no proper journalism, hardly any proper reviews, no insight into anything. They're all so boring!

I used to read Eve too. Saw a 2005 copy in the hospital waiting room last week - memories!

Also read Family Circle, New Woman and Real. I loved MINX.

Does anyone remember B?

These days I read Weekend Magazine (comes with Saturday Guardian) and YOU magazine (comes with Sunday Mail). They don't have too many recipes in them. :)

northerngirl41 · 08/11/2010 20:39

Try Scarlet magazine.

Kami42 · 27/10/2019 11:50

Why infuriating? I picked up the 50th issue and it seemed like a lot of navel-gazing and purple prose. Beautiful cover though.

Kami42 · 27/10/2019 11:51

I was referring to Oh Comely, should've mentioned

tillytrotter1 · 27/10/2019 12:31

What would qualify as 'women's magazine'? Reminds me of those displays of books for Mothers' Day, they're usually recognisable by their pastel coloured covers.
Personally the only magazine I buy is Private Eye, does that meet the criteria??

YANBU. I went to the airport recently and couldn't pick out one women's mag that I wanted to read. I used to like Elle, but am not so into fashion these days and there's nothing else in it. Glamour was also good - I was shocked when it closed!

I ended up buying the Times instead!

This thread is nearly a decade old people 😱

DorisDances · 27/10/2019 13:25

May be an old thread but interesting that could have been written yesterday! I am another Eve fan....

BlaueLagune · 27/10/2019 13:33

I quite like Top Sante. I have a subscription and save them up after reading and give them to my mum when I see her. Not so much a womens' magazine as such, more on health issues as the name suggests, but usually quite interesting.

I used to read Red but it was full of stories about smug women and their amazing friends, so I stopped reading it.

Most of the rest are just gossip.

And yes old thread but still relevant (for once with an old thread, although I've still got to wonder why Kami ignored the message about the thread not having been posted on for over a year).

fairislecable · 27/10/2019 13:55

I have been a subscriber to National Geographic for the last 5 years, but Recently I find the articles are much shorter and not fully rounded out.

I can only think this is because they feel short snappy is the way to go.

It’s not and I will no longer be a subscriber.

fairislecable · 27/10/2019 13:56

Oh no! ZOMBIE thread

Susiesoap7 · 27/10/2019 14:07

Totally agree!
Fed up of. I knitted a sock and now I have a multi million business or I painted my nails and everyone in New York is clamouring for my nail varnish!

easyandy101 · 27/10/2019 14:23

It's all magazines

I used to be a newsagent and came to the conclusion that each title has at most 3 different issues on rotation. The Sex issue, The Family issue, The relationships issue, The New Updated Sex issue etc etc etc

Nothing really happens in the field of anything that warrants writing a magazine's worth of stuff every month
