to think people who are crying poor should not eat

Warburtons seeded batch bread.

On BBc news yesterday the roving reporter was out and about in a working mans house talking about the cuts and the people where complaining about losing money but in the background on the breakfast counter was a warburtons seeded loaf at about £1.70
Now if I had to tighten my belt I would be buying cheaper bread

People must realise that we have to live within our means and if that involves buying economy bread then so be it
If your income is reduced then so must your expenditure

problem solved
spend less buy cheaper

"How dare the "poor" buy "poor" minced beef in the "poor" shop when they could have a bowl of "poor" lentils instead. Tell you what, why don't we simply draw up "poor" food plans for the week - with just enough food needed to survive."

Absofuckinglutely witchy. If only the "poor" would listen to us, eh?

"When cleaning ones arse after a shit use 1 piece of toilet tissue(unless you use newspaper) and as my mum used to say "make sure you use both sides"
anymore money saving tips?
"
crying with laughter here

I am interested in he bit about spending £ now rather than saving up for £1.50 later

Surely it was not saving up, prioritising and learning to delay gratification for something we wanted that contributed to the credit crunch?

Someone who can save an extra 50p for soemthing they want is demoinstratinga socially useful skill

Yes .... if you don't eat you won't have to shit.

JinnyS · 21/10/2010 13:08

We have established that we are not going to cut down our spend by buying cheaper food

I have cut down my spend by buying cheaper food. I buy an awful lot of 'value' basics.

What I don't buy is crap bread. It's the basis of one meal a day for my family so I buy the best I can afford. If I can't afford decent bread then I make cuts elsewhere

I will not be judged badly for buying decent food for my family

And now I shall flounce

cory · 21/10/2010 13:08

As others have said, lots of people are already cutting back, not by buying the worst bread there is, but by buying at reduced prices.

But wiping your bum with newspaper sounds a ridiculously extravagant lifestyle. Are you sure you don't need us to rally round with a few hints to help you save money? (not least considering how much plumbers charge)

PosieComeHereMyPreciousParker · 21/10/2010 13:09

I know people that plead poverty that have iPhones and go out for coffee every week.....in fact I know one woman who has just had her car repossessed and she's still in the coffee houses at least three times a week!!

I never buy shit bread or value meat....I'd rather eat quorn!

DwainRooney · 21/10/2010 13:10

Why not
1 buy your family wind up torches and you can strap them to your head and not have to put your lights on in the evening( saving electric bills
2 If you put the heating on in the morning you should put a bottle of water on the radiator to warm up then you can put the warm water in the kettle to make your cup off tea (less electic used again)

True friendship costs nothing and if they really are true friends they just might buy you a coffee

Posie I don;t get the iphone thing either

But there are still loads of really poor people out there, and a lot of people who are since yesterday and all teh cuts, so I don;t get why Mn can;t at elast just understand people are scared and be supportive for a few days.

We think we have a solution to the whole carer / needing 2 earners to qualify for WTC, but if not we lose our home. Thats scary stuff, esp. when the hoomless accom doesn;t accept autistic kids.

terryble · 21/10/2010 13:17

Um, to be serious here, the radiator tip. Don't do that if your heating is regulated by a thermostat. The water will absorb the heat (Water has a high heat capacity ) and your heating will work harder to heat the room, because the water is absorbing so much heat.

Actually, even if you don't have a thermostat, still be careful. I like heat to heat the house, and you might end up inefficiently heating water.

homeboys - perhaps you could start a thread for ideas on how to refine your shopping list then., or ideas on how to cut down in other areas so you can afford them.

PosieComeHereMyPreciousParker · 21/10/2010 13:17

I don't go for coffee as I really don't have any money, 20 years ago there wouldn't have been anywhere to go for coffee you would have gone to someone's house.

Christ - god forbid a poor person should do something that makes them feel at least vaguely human once in a while like go out for coffee or buy a chocolate bar

And honestly - there's aonly so many times you can go out with friends for coffee and have them pay "because you're poor" before you start to feel REALLY shit about it (unless you're a leech in general).

hmmm - lets see on the car thing - lets just say £150 monthly payment for the car, £2.50 (guessing here for coffee houses -usually it's Morrisons for £1.25 for me) for coffee 3x a week.

She'd have had to skip her coffee for 20 weeks just to save the money for ONE months car payment.

You usually have to miss a couple of payments at least before repossession of items, so realistically she'd have to stop going for coffee for over a year (minimum) to even to start to pay back the arrears.

PosieComeHereMyPreciousParker · 21/10/2010 13:25

You would not get a cup of tea at that price where my friends drink...more like £3 and they eat cake always.

ShirleyGarrote · 21/10/2010 13:25

Oh Dwain, that is excellent advice.

I already wear clothes 2 sizes too small as this MUST save me money somewhere along the line, and I don't waste money on water from the tap, I drink my own piss instead.

MaMoTTaT · 21/10/2010 13:26

Posie - 20yrs ago there were plenty of places to go for coffee - my mum always used to stop for (well tea) when out shopping with us when we were kids Confused

Re the hot water for tea/coffee - only put in as much water as you need - uses less electricity
