Twice is fine. I don't look uncomfortable, I look delighted to see my friends. No tweeds-corudroy and artfully placed scarf either.

I always kiss twice, picked it up when we lived abroad. It did feel a bit odd when I use to have to kiss everybody all the time, including all my colleagues, and it was very time-consuming being introduced to a large group of people and being expected to kiss them all.

But I agree with Yuno, it's rather odd to judge something so innocuous as twattish. Be glad you're not Dutch - they kiss four times.
