to stick DD's brownie badges on with No More Nails

Why do they send DC home with so many badges that need sewing on?

If she had done something I could understand but the badges are now handed out weekly just for attending. Tonight she came home with 6 to be sewn on. 6 tiny little badges to celebrate 100 yrs .........but last week I had a badge to celebrate 100 years ????? (I know it's special but so are my evenings!!!!!!!!!!!)

One badge will suffice for gawds sake

Used fabric glue once and it was shite. No More Nails sounds good!

southeastastra · 12/10/2010 20:27

Ha ha this really made me smile! :)

ravenAK · 12/10/2010 20:47

Agree with Pixie, insist she does her sewing badge & sews the blighters on herself!

I can just about be arsed to do nametapes annually, Brownie badges would be a Bridge Too Far.

Lol - I thought your alternative to No More Nails would be nailing them on!

Can't DD sew them on? She's a Brownie - they're suposed to be resourceful etc.

MmeBlueberry · 12/10/2010 20:50

I wouldn't mind sewing on badges but the Brownie sash is a killer.

I am saving DD2's badges for when she gets a Guide blanket.

greenlotus · 12/10/2010 20:52

Best glue for fabric is Copydex but scout shops sell something called Loctite 595 - any good?

how much could I reasonably charge, I wonder?

giraffesCantDookForApples · 12/10/2010 20:52

Excellent plan

SE13Mummy · 12/10/2010 20:57

Bondaweb? If you ironed the reverse of the sash (the badge and Bondaweb being on the front) the web should melt. I think.

My mum used to sew my badges on so 'badly' i.e. obvious big stitches unlike my friends' mums who used invisible stitching, that I taught myself how to do the invisible stitching. 25 years later and it's about the only sewing I can do.

VictoriasLittleKnownSecret · 12/10/2010 21:02

:)
I did wonder if you'd all flame me for being unmotherly

I am prevaricating and will probably sew them on in a mad rush next Monday night

I have tried to get the older DD's to sew their badges on but 60mins of cajoling and watching painfully slow progress and a tantrum means it's marginally less painful to do it myself

I do like the staple idea though

I use the badge glue that is sold at the Guiding shop. And discarded the dreaded sash as it broke every needle thatwent near it. Instead I bought DD the gillet and glued them to the back of that. So far it is working.

shongololo · 12/10/2010 21:05

scout shops sell badge glue www.scoutshops.com/acatalog/scouting-badges.html

However, not advisable if you intend passing sash/uniform down to another child - you will find it hard to get the blighters off again!

brownie badges are a doddle - they are square and go onto a flat sash. Stick them on with PVA and ask a friend with a sewing machine to whizz round the inside. I do all my square/rectangular badges this way.

hystericalmum · 12/10/2010 21:06

I use that iron on tape stuff. Blush

VictoriasLittleKnownSecret · 12/10/2010 21:12

I was joking about glue! I didn't realise that you could. I will be investigating this :)

DD3 has been a Brownie for a year and I still haven't sewn on any of her numerous badges. This would not be so bad, but I am Brown Owl. Blush Her gilet is sitting beside me on the sofa and I am just about to get started - honest.

Brilliant!!

Hulababy · 12/10/2010 21:44

shongololo - have you tried sewing through that sash though? It is the thickest piece of material known to man. Take a needle near it and the needle will give up on sight and snap in half. I have gone through so many needles trying to sew Brownie badges onto that sash.

As I said before - DD's now go on the back of her gilet. Much better.
