To find those Waitrose green token things really annoying?

I get what they're trying to do and it's not that I don't think it's admirable but ffs it's so inconvenient when you've got bags of shopping in one hand and they're giving you receipt and change in the other as well as a fiddly green token thingy which you have to make sure you keep separate from the change you're trying to put in your purse and the receipt your're trying to put in the other bit of your purse...etc.

Then, you can't just walk out of the store otherwise you feel guilty so you waste more time looking at the options and deciding which one to go for.

I know it's not that big of a deal but I buy my lunch in the local Waitrose most days and every fucking time I have to go through this bloody faff with the green token. It's really starting to get on my nerves.

Or maybe I just have PMT??

Why don't you just put it in your purse with your change and put it in the box when you get a chance?

I thought they only gave you them when you spend over a certain amount. You must buy shedloads of lunch Wink

Fimbo · 11/10/2010 14:01

YABU our local nursery were the benefactors of £450 thanks to the green tokens.

In our local branch they ask you if you want a token and give you extra if you have dc. Oh and they give you the token after you have put your purse etc away. Maybe you should have a word Grin

wheelsonthefeckingbus · 11/10/2010 14:01

If that's all that's bugging you then you've got it pretty easy really. And it is for charidee anyway.

The problem I have is do you go for the less popular charity because they haven't got many tokens and you feel sorry for them, or the one you really want.

wheelsonthefeckingbus · 11/10/2010 14:02

What I would like to know is whether the more tokens get put in the more they pay out

or

they have a finite pot which gets shared according to the ratio of tokens.

Have I sort of explained that?

madonnawhore · 11/10/2010 14:02

Ha! I'm not that greedy Grin. That's why it annoys me so much I guess, because they give me one even if I'm only spending a couple of quid. Don't really want a purse full of green plastic tokens.

I hate all this kind of consumer participation rubbish.

Bah humbug.

YABVU

it's for charity and costs you nothing but 2 minutes of your time

wheelsonthefeckingbus · 11/10/2010 14:04

Not even 2 mins MadreInglese. 2 seconds to stick the token in the box on the way out.

MadreInglese · 11/10/2010 14:05

in our local Waitrose they have £1000 (I think) per month to give out, and it's shared between the three charities according to the number of tokens each gets in their pots by the end of the month, but it may be different in other stores

staranise · 11/10/2010 14:05

They split £1000 a month between the three charities - the one with the most tokens gets the most. Our PTA got £400 from it so YABU - how much hassle can receiving a token be?!

TootAndCommon · 11/10/2010 14:05

Just say 'no thank you'.

You sound fantastically wound up about it!

madonnawhore · 11/10/2010 14:06

Ok, I am being an unreasonable cow, as I had suspected all along!

Still gets on my tits though.

wheelsonthefeckingbus · 11/10/2010 14:06

Well if it's a finite pot, then the OP can just ignore them then, unless she has a strong preference for one charity over another, which I suspect she doesn't.

Rockbird · 11/10/2010 14:06

You must have a nice face, I never get them, but then I'm only ever buying a pint of milk and a packet of small pasta :) The one time I did get one I was so excited I stood in front of the boxes for about 40 minutes making an informed choice as to where my oh so important token was going :o

MadreInglese · 11/10/2010 14:06

you need a hobby

olderandwider · 11/10/2010 14:08

I don't bother anymore. I reckon people who care more than me can put their token in the box they care most about. As it doesn't affect overall how much money is distributed I don't think my role in it is at all important. I do think it's nice for children tho' and would probably bother if I still had littlies.

FindingMyMojo · 11/10/2010 14:08

don't do it then! don't accept the tokens, collect them on your desk, throw them away, shop elsewhere - if its really that much hassle & annoyance to drop in into a slot on the way out the door, then why do it?

I think perhaps this is the PMT talking Grin

madonnawhore · 11/10/2010 14:09

Maybe my hobby could be collecting green plastic Waitrose tokens? Grin

OP posts:
Rockbird · 11/10/2010 14:09

olderandwider I thought that said you would probably bother if you still had titties :o

abr1de · 11/10/2010 14:10

I never look at the boxes. I take a totally random approach and fling the token in the box that has fewest tokens.

sparkle12mar08 · 11/10/2010 14:11

AFAIK it's a ratio share out. And I have a little theory about predicting which charity will get the most etc. Anything child related, especially physical disabilities, is most popular closely followed by elderly care organisations. Animal charities also do well in our branch, but what does least well is anything percieved as voluntary or for private gain i.e. the local church school nursery had a box once which had practically nothing in it, and teenage focused things never do well either.

And if they are all much of a muchness in any given set, then the middle box always seems to have the most.

You must have spent more time complaining about it and discussing it on MN than you would probably spend sticking the little token in the box for the next few months.

madonnawhore · 11/10/2010 14:13

Hahahahahaha Fimbo, nooooooo!!!
