To find those Waitrose green token things really annoying?

I get what they're trying to do and it's not that I don't think it's admirable but ffs it's so inconvenient when you've got bags of shopping in one hand and they're giving you receipt and change in the other as well as a fiddly green token thingy which you have to make sure you keep separate from the change you're trying to put in your purse and the receipt your're trying to put in the other bit of your purse...etc.

Then, you can't just walk out of the store otherwise you feel guilty so you waste more time looking at the options and deciding which one to go for.

I know it's not that big of a deal but I buy my lunch in the local Waitrose most days and every fucking time I have to go through this bloody faff with the green token. It's really starting to get on my nerves.

Or maybe I just have PMT??

BadgersArse · 11/10/2010 20:25

and THEN at the door you get people thinking they are bloody SOlomon - humming and hawing as if they are giving life to a starving child when tehy donate
" its a fucking scout hut you ponced up loafer wearing moron"

BadgersArse · 11/10/2010 20:26

i have keys in one hand
purse in another.
at least they could make them magnetic, or er just a button you press

NotanOtter · 11/10/2010 20:28

charlieandlola · 11/10/2010 20:37

There was a to do in
my local wAitrose re the green tokens. Supporters of one local charity had been hoarding their green tokens until their charity was one of the three in the box . Two women then wheeled a trolley full of waitrose carrier bags in And proceeded to empty all the bags into their charity box until it was about 2/3rds full. The whole checkout stood and gawped. The manager too.
Ds then ran off so I didn't see if punches were thrown.
Can you tell I live in a small provincial town ??

southeastastra · 11/10/2010 20:38

ha that's inspired

lenak · 11/10/2010 20:39

My DD loves these.

I don't just let her stick it in any box though - I get her to choose. So if it's the local dog shelter, the pediatric unit or help the aged I'll say:

"Do you want to give it to the dogs, the poorly children or the nannies and grandads?"

She actually hmmms and arrrs for a few seconds before choosing bless her - although god only knows what she's weighing up - she's only 3!

It really pees me off if there are a couple of similar charities though - makes it really hard to put it into 3 year old language to give her a choice Wink

cupcakesandbunting · 11/10/2010 20:40

I hate seeing a barely populated box. It makes me :(

But then when you check, the empty boxes are always for something shit like epileptic dogs or something.

brimfull · 11/10/2010 20:40

god I have a handbag full of them

and all my green quick check bags are full of them as well

BadgersArse · 11/10/2010 20:53

i HATE THE WEIGHING UP PARENTS

stop it.
lol at ladies hoarding though

cyb · 11/10/2010 20:55

this is why I shop at Asda

BadgersArse · 11/10/2010 20:56

isnt that because you are common/

cyb · 11/10/2010 21:00

yes

littlebylittle · 11/10/2010 21:07

I don't feel too strongly about it, but don't see why it matters too much if I have no preference for the charities and the pot is finite. If I shop elsewhere, which I usually do, I would have more money in my pocket to give away which would make more difference than deciding which charity got the Waitrose money.

FlumpetMum · 11/10/2010 21:10

Just say No thanks, I am a miserable fecker.

FlumpetMum · 11/10/2010 21:11

softnstrong · 12/10/2010 00:10

marenmj · 12/10/2010 00:16

Used to randomly chose which bin until my local had a bin for some rectal cancer awareness group and since then at every opportunity DH and I would give our token to "ass cancer"

We were quite sad when the charities switched over, although then I just gave it to the bee nutters Grin

JustBeachy · 12/10/2010 08:26

I do that lenak Grin Some of the charities have interesting child-friendly translations to say the least!

The only thing that has annoyed me about these is that one found it's way into my DVD player - DH had to take it apart because it wouldn't work and some small person had posted it in like a tiny green DVD Hmm
